What's new

Which international teams would you back to defeat Mumbai Indians in a five-match T20 series?

And that Lahore team could not win champions League which was won by CSK which was at the peak at that time.MI was barely able to qualify in IPL and they missed some important players in CL and at that time CSK and Punjab was at the peak. Not only Lahore but NZ team also was able to defeat MI and the team from newzealand even defeated Lahore and were not able even one match in the next phase and getting the beating from IPL teams and in 2014 many players were new in mi because many retired after 2013 edition of IPL.Mi was revamped in 2015 edition.

Leave Bangladesh aside.

Except Hafeez (over Kishan maybe), Nawaz/Qadir (over Chahar) and Shaheen (over Jansen), none of the current Pak side will even make the MI XI. :))

That pretty much tells the whole story.

Mi has recruited Jansen from scout and they are giving him run because he will be very good in future and a great prospect.MI has many better bowler than Jansen at present for example:Nathan Coulter Nile.

Wasn't that the strongest team at that time? Or are you only going to selectively choose the team just like some guys selectively choose the time period for stats to show which team is better than the other? :inti

No they were never a better team in IPL,they barely qualified in IPL 2014.And even one team from newzealand was able to beat them but later on the next phase they were beaten badly by other teams. In a T20 game probability of seeing an upset is more hence large set of game will nullify the chances of flukes just like how Pakistan beat India in CT 17 and were beaten badly after that on 3 occasion.

Why can't you?

I think it relates to the fact that Sharma has hammered Pakistan quite clearly in one format, so there is no reason to assume that he can't be prolific against us in another format.

Babar hasn't hammered India in either format, so from the data available, we can't really predict if he'll do well against India given that his stats are mediocre.

Following can beat them & even add BD/Afg if its turning track
Australia
New Zealand
England
South Africa
India
Pakistan
West Indies

Babar Azam won't make it into Mumbai Indians.... That's pretty much it.

Shaheen might get in ahead of Boult.
So only 1 pak player in a combined x1

No if he has to come he will come as a 3rd bowler or it is likely that he will not feature in the starting 11

The team that defeated MI was bang average team as compared to many international sides
Yes I mean Zimbabwe also defeated Pakistan and India many times even Australia but will you say that Australia are overrated or crap. And even that year MI had a very crap team, they barely qualified for IPL and did miss some international recruit and their captain who was backbone of their IPL campaign or else they would not have even qualified for the playoffs of the IPL

But would the Mumbai overseas players play for the international side or the ISL team ?

It is a hypothetical scenario. Wherein both teams will contain the respective players! i.e., Rohit, Pandya, etc, will play both in Indian team & MI team & play to their potential...!

MI has been shunted out of the tournament and their late comeback were just not enough.

What are the reasons for their poor showing?

They have a team that is tailor made for good batting wickets but they had to start off their campaign with 5 games in a row on that slow sticky Chennai wicket. Were beginning to get back to their best when they moved to the Delhi leg but unfortunately, the tournament had to be postponed. And then it was back to the sticky slow UAE wickets again (barring a couple in Abu Dhabi).

Not making excuses though as good teams are supposed to adapt to different conditions. The likes of Rohit, Pandya, SKY, Kishan looked woefully out of form for the major part of the tournament.

End of an era probably. At their peak, which probably was 2020, they were as good as any other T20 team in the world including the international sides. Only India/England could have matched their overall firepower.

Won 3 titles between 2017 and 2020 with pretty much the same core group of players. Will probably look completely different next year with the mega auction set to take place. I expect only Rohit, Bumrah and one of SKY/Pandya to be retained.

The slow start is usual for Mumbai Indians just like India does. This time the recovery didn't happen and MI find themselves out.
