Or should India not play a spinner?

Play ashwin for 2 tests,if he fails bring in kuldeep.Thing is ashwin gives us an extra 25-30 runs on avg.
And we need to have DK instead of Saha.

On Flattish surfaces - assuming we only play 5 bats + 1 WK, I would play Ash + Jadeja. On green surfaces, only Ash.

But, I would be tempted to try out Kuldeep Yadav in Jadeja's place in one of the flattish wickets.

We should with Ashwin in first two tests. He had 7 wickets in 2 tests@30 in SA, showed signs of bowling better overseas.

Not too many people would want to see DK as a Test keeper after his performance vs Afghanistan. He's a poor keeper in longer format, okay enough for shorter formats.

Saha makes the test team on his keeping alone, add 3 tests 100s in his last 20 tests, makes him nearly irreplaceable.

No way.Saha is a brilliant keeper and with the crappy slip cordon we have, cant afford a poor keeper also. And there is nothing to suggest that Kartik could bat in Tests in England better than Saha.

Go back to 2006-2007 test series in england, karthik aced it.But yeah ,saha is a better keeper.

I would love Kuldeep on XI. But Ashwin has done very well recently and there is no reason to drop him.

I think kuldeep should be try as a surprise package. he can create havoc in eng batting

What happened to Jadeja of late?

Seems to have disappeared.

Kuldeep Yadav will be a good option although Ashwin is a good batsman and has changed his game.

Irish batsmen having trouble reading Kuldeep. If he performs well against England in the ODIs selecting the spinner could get tricky.

Seeing how Moeen Ali performed with the Ball in the recent series against Aus, it is a clear indication that Spinners can dominate in the English pitches. I would love to have this as our playing 11 against England.

Dhawan
Rahul
Kohli
Karthik
Dhoni
Pandya
W.Sundar
Chahal
Kuldeep
Bhuvi
Bumrah

Rohit can warm the bench for 1 or 2 ODIs, but knowing Kohli and Shastri's games it's impossible to take Rohit out of the team. Having W.Sundar in the playing 11 gives us an additional spinner and he's handy with the Bat too.

I don't think there's any chance that Sundar will play the ODIs

This is a thread for tests though

Wrong moeen ali is off spinner he took wicket because this aus side is rubbish against any half decent spinner .two wrist spinner in the shape of kuldeep and chahal are enough if they do need off spinner they have raina who is more than decent

Start with Ashwin/Jadeja. They add value with the bat as well. If it doesn't work then make changes.

Ashwin and Jadeja, both have been outstanding for India. Their low order batting contributions will also come handy.

Kuldeep should start as first spinner. We have all seen what Ashwin can offer i.e. run rate control and some useful lower order runs. Unfortunately he simply doesn't get enough wkts to threaten. And he doesn't look capable of bowling a team out in 4rth inns.

Kuldeep has X-factor. Worth playing him if Kohli really wants to have 20wkt capable lineup

Want to see following XI
Vijay(if he fails in 2 tests replace with Pujara)
Dhawan
KL
Kohli
Rahane
DK (keeper)
Pandya/Ashwin (depending on conditions)
Bhuvi
Kuldeep
Ishant
Umesh

Start off with Ashwin & Jaddu.

BK/Bumrah/Ashwin/Kuldeep/Pandya (should be the bowlers).

If any of Kuldeep or Ashwin has a horrible game, then India can think of adding Jaddu to the lineup in place of them.

English batsmen may decode Kuldeep eventually. Safe to go with Ashwin and Jadeja in the first test and then make the change if necessary in later tests.

This would be my playing eleven for Tests-

Vijay( Dhawan if Vijay flops for 1st 2 tests)
Rahul
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Saha
Ashwin
Jadeja
Kuldeep
Bhuvi
Umesh(Bumrah if fit)

If its a green pitch then drop one of the spinners and play Umesh/Ishant. Unfortunately Pandya does not make it in my playing eleven because we need to have 5 genuine bowlers in tests. As fas as spinners as concerned, though Kuldeep has been in a brilliant form but Jaddu/Ash will be preferred over him at least for couple of tests if 3rd pacer is needed.

Kuldeep and Ashwin in one test and Kuldeep and Jadeja in next.
They should alternate spinner along with Kuldeep so English stay confused and try to focus completely on Yadav

Shami?

I think we shouldn't play Kuldeep much till WC. If we win the next ODI, then no need to play him in the 3rd one. As far as the test series is concerned, I won't start off with him in the first 2 tests. If we are loosing the series then sure play him otherwise don't or Eng may start decoding him which won't help us in the WC. I have a feeling of Ind-Eng playing a knockout match in the next WC and Kuldeep may very well turn out to be a trump card once again

3 spinners in England? Not the way to go.

Vijay
Rahul
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Pandya
Ashwin
Saha
Kuldeep
Bhuvi
Shami/Umesh/Bumrah/Ishant

If it seems to be a batting track, replace another pace bowler with Pandya.

Depends on pitches. If its a green track then there is no point playing 3 spinners. But if its a slow deck, the ones we have seen so far on this tour then why not, especially when Kuldeep is in full form.

Pandya in tests doesn’t inspire the confidence as far as his bowling is concerned. His style of play works perfectly in LOIs but you need specialists in tests. I could be wrong.

Also Jadeja can’t be ignored so easily. He has been our saviour when it doesn’t turn much. His accurate darters does wonders when Ashwin goes missing.

So i think if India goes ahead with 2 spinners then Ash and Jaddu gets the preferance over Kuldeep at least for first couple of tests.
