Why are Indians desperate for their bowler to cross the 160 Kph mark?

In cricket the best bowlers were always the one who bowled in about 140 kph with good length & line & ability to swing / seam in all conditions

Like Dennis Lille, Malcolm Marshall, Hadlee, Imran, McGrath, Wasim Akram, Donald, Ambrose, Steyn. Cummins & Bumrah ( possibly Rabada) are in line to join that category

None of these 150+ bowlers can be categorized as all time greats - Thompson, Colin Croft, Shoaib Akhtar, SHaun tait, MArk Wood wud be labelled as greats

Only 1 guy Brett Lee crossed 300 wicket mark - but even he was not express pace all the time
What about micheal holding?

Dindnt peak waqar bowl at 150+

Holding was mostly a145 kph bolwer. Not express pace. And Holding was not really a great. Roberts & Marshall were superior to him

Waqar was not exactly a test great. He was very good in cleaning up the tail which inflated his stats but his new ball skills were not that great. He was lucky to play in an era when ball tampering was not so closely monitored. In the 90s tv cameras were not so vigilant and using bottle corks was rampant. Then ICC changed the rules and made it mandatory for the umpires to take the ball during drinks break. Reverse swing disappeared overnight

Roberts was faster than Holding.

Roberts was measured at 159.5 and Holding at 157.

They were fast and there are no doubts.

Can you tell me your cricteria of great?

So what ever happend to Umran Malik? Bas hawa nikal gaye?
According to some of our Indian friends on this forumn, he was suppose to be the greatest bowler the world has ever seen.

I think the world they were referring to was Planet Mars. Cause I haven't seen him on Earth.

remember when joshila was writing essays on pace all of a sudden. He took a big u turn from line and length bowlers stance.

Turns out, all thee years, Joshial envied Pakistani bowlers.

I'm aware. I read the entire conversation

150 kph speed is not required, it serves no purpose, batsman are equipped to play high pace these days.

Give me a 135-147 kph bowler who can switch gears, a 160 kph specimen won't really last long. We saw in case of Akhtar that he retired without winning a single ICC trophy. He is still my favourite though because he could move the ball at 150+, not something you get with gun barrel straight bowlers like Wood, Nortje etc.

The idea that Bharat is obsessed with 160 kph bowlers doesn’t hold much ground when you look at how the country’s pace bowlers have been treated over the years.

While there is certainly excitement among fans about raw pace, the team management has always prioritized control and consistency over sheer speed. The moment a 150 kph bowlers goes for a few boundaries they start feeling nervous about him. We need to understand that every pace bowler gets murderer in Bharat and it’s ok. If you want to build a team for SENA you shouldn’t worry about that.

Look at the careers of Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron, Umran Malik, we were excited about all of them but we did not have the guts to carry them for long. Dhoni in particular had no faith in pacers, he liked the Kumar’s and all like swing bowlers because mistimed top edges from them didnt fly for sixes.
