Why Misbah is still in the ODI Team!

Mark my words: We will win or successfully draw a Test Series against Sri Lanka later this year under Misbah's captaincy. We will not lose a series under him.

Someone please High light/tag this and bump this appropriately.

one thing for sure it'll be one helluva boring series because once again it will be on the flat beds of UAE...so if we do lose it will be disgraceful

CHOKE NUMBER ONE
2007 T20 CHAMPIONSHIP GROUP MATCH Pak v Ind

An expensive over at a crucial stage from Agarkar. Last over - 12 from 6 needed. And Sreesanth has the ball. Fine leg is in the circle.
19.1
Sreesanth to Yasir Arafat, 1 run, full ball outside the off stump, driven straight to Yuvraj at point, just the single
11 runs from five balls needed. Fine leg goes back to the boundary.
19.2
Sreesanth to Misbah-ul-Haq, FOUR, length delivery outside the off stump, Misbah backs away and hammers the ball over cover, it bounces just inside the boundary, superb stuff from Misbah
7 needed off four now.
19.3
Sreesanth to Misbah-ul-Haq, 2 runs, full ball on middle stump, driven to long-on for a single but poor fielding allows the second
19.4
Sreesanth to Misbah-ul-Haq, FOUR, full toss on off stump, mid-off was in the circle and Misbah drives past him, he brings up his fifty and the scores are level, superb innings
Just one run needed off two balls.
19.5
Sreesanth to Misbah-ul-Haq, no run, short of a length outside off stump, Misbah tries to cut but gets beaten
The field comes in, tension writ on Sreesanth's face.
19.6
Sreesanth to Misbah-ul-Haq, OUT, it's a tie! Misbah can't get it away and hits it towards cover, Yuvraj runs in, picks up the ball and throws it to the non-strikers end, Sreesanth whips off the bails with Misbah well short of his crease, delirious scenes at Kingsmead
Misbah-ul-Haq run out 53 (35b 7x4 1x6) SR: 151.42

CHOKE NUMBER TWO
2007 T20 Championship Final Pak v Ind

13 needed from 6 balls now. This big final has gone right down to the wire. Misbah on strike.
19.1
Joginder Sharma to Misbah-ul-Haq, 1 wide, short of a length and far outside the off stump, that one barely lands on the pitch. Nerves here for Joginder Sharma. Big, big wide. Easily called
12 needed from 6 now
19.1
Joginder Sharma to Misbah-ul-Haq, no run, short of a good length and outside the off, play and a miss, the tension mounts
12 from 5 needed
19.2
Joginder Sharma to Misbah-ul-Haq, SIX, full-toss outside the off, that's not the place to bowl at this time. Misbah is cool as ice, lines this up and pounds the ball straight back down the ground. This is a baseball style home run. Such incredible hitting under pressure. You have to give it to Misbah
6 needed from 4 balls now
19.3
Joginder Sharma to Misbah-ul-Haq, OUT, India! It's all over here! Full and on the stumps. Misbah goes for the scoop shot over short fine-leg. That is a risky shot to play with only 6 needed from 4 balls. Straight up in the air and Sreesanth takes the catch. India have won by 5 runs in the inaugural ICC World Twenty20
Misbah-ul-Haq c Sreesanth b Joginder Sharma 43 (51m 38b 0x4 4x6) SR: 113.15

CHOKE NUMBER THREE
2011 World Cup Semi Final Pk v Ind

Zaheer to bowl the final over, and Pakistan need a miracle. India have one foot in the final. Long-on, long-off are back
49.1
Khan to Misbah-ul-Haq, no run, drilled down the ground, Misbah turns down the single ... so now he's got to hit every ball for six
Ash: "Misbaha completed 50 and 2000 ODI runs... Hmmm.. Might be he was targetting this"
49.2
Khan to Misbah-ul-Haq, no run, full and wide outside off, is that a wide? Swing and a miss from Misbah
49.3
Khan to Misbah-ul-Haq, no run, short, pulled and straight to midwicket. The crowd are excited now, they know India are through
49.4
Khan to Misbah-ul-Haq, no run, on a length now, heaved across the line and straight to midwicket
The Pakistan players look utterly downcast in the dressing room, the dream is over
49.5
Khan to Misbah-ul-Haq, OUT, there's the game! Misbah swings, the ball goes miles up in the air and lands safely in Kohli's hands at long-on
Misbah-ul-Haq c Kohli b Khan 56 (134m 76b 5x4 1x6) SR: 73.68

Enough..... MR FLOP UL HAQ

Misbah & Wahab might be rested tomorrow. Sadaf & Usman might be getting their chances to debut! Experimentation is good to see.

:)) Nice bump BoomBoomCricket.

Only few of us sticked with Misbah. We knew that this guy is currently our best batsmen. Took time for others to reliaze it.

Not everyone can or needs to score at a SR of 90+ let alone 100+ in ODIs. Viv, Gilchrist and Jayasuriya are exceptions to the rule. We also need good innings stabilizers esp. in the crucial middle period when spinners are on but can only afford to play two such players in any given team i.e. 2 from Misbah, YK, Malik and Asad. on present form it should be Misbah and YK/Asad.

But for that all important partnership of 90 odd between Misbah and Umar Akmal in the 3rd ODI against Bangladesh, we would have lost that game for sure..

Since Hafeez is doing well with both bat and ball and we have two other good spinners (Ajmal and Afridi), Malik is not really needed in ODIs at the moment

Misbah averages 42.67 at a decent SR of 75.29 (Inzi's SR was 74.24 and he was a very good ODI player!!)

Some very good ODI batsmen have SRs of 70-75.

Leading ODI Batsmen

4 40s and a half century in his last 8 innings

10 50s in 33 innings since January 2011, majority of the 50s have ended not out

3 50s in 6 Asia Cup innings

16/21 ODI wins as captain

Only the 3rd Pakistan captain to reach an Asia Cup Final out of 11 editions

Voted ESPN cricinfo batsmen of the year for both Tests & ODIs 2011

Not bad going for the 'worst thing to have happened to Pakistan Cricket'

He still doesn't deserve a place in the ODI team. We need to breed young, energetic middle order batsmen for a place in the test team after misbah retires. Asad Shafiq could come in place of Misbah and Younis Khan could lead the ODI team.

We also need Younis Khan to open the innings and be more responsible. One test match innings in a match that was won high way through the innings doesn't warrant a place for Misbah.

The two matches against India will prove my point. Wait and watch

Yeah, we need young energetic batsmen like Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed

Face it, we need Misbah; he has saved us COUNTLESS times, he has the most thankless job in the word bechaara.

Hafeez.. young?
Nasir...energetic?

Come again?

Hence the facepalm

I do believe we need youngsters in the team but Hafeez and Nasir are hardly the best examples. Misbah will not be around for the next World Cup, age is against him and he struggles to rotate. We can't paper over the cracks, time to groom the next crop.

Misbah has bowlers to thank for chasing 188...

I would have liked to see how things panned out with him chasing 288

^^ So you hope that he fails... Poor stuff by haters like you..............

lol and that stupid ASif Iqbal qoute :))

I know Misbah's batting is a very emotional subject but less of the name calling folks.

Personally I think it was a horrible innings, should have hit at least 10 sixes and finished the game in the 20th over, with a strike rate of 300 and picked up the triple bonus point :p

Okay, not being sarcastic here, but I honestly thought it was an alright innings. Not that great as some are making it out to be!

Agree the innings was good but more importantly the partnership with Umar got Pakistan through.

I liked what Misbah said in the interview - that he told Cheema to keep being aggressive when he was being hit for boundaries early on.
Although a bit early at this stage I think there seems to more positive/aggressive approach compared to the LOI matches against England.

It was a good innings at a good strike rate... well done to him and Umar...

But pulling a partnership like that is not as easy when chasing 288 is it !! Ill rate them when they do that

Until then I believe Malik should take Misbahs place and a new Youngster beauty Usman Salahuddin take Younus place and get a good run.

As far as I am aware, we were chasing 188 and not 288, but do correct me if I'm wrong.

Not at all mate. Just a Pakistan cricket fan, not a fan of one or two players, unlike some of the rather immature and childish posters who only seem to care about the performance of certain players ahead of the team's performance and results.
