Okay so today seeing Ben Dunk in PSL, i thought if he could make his way back into his home team but then I realized he is already quite behind in the pecking order for Aus there.

Alex Carey
Matthew Wade
Josh Phillepe
PSP Handscomb
Ben McDermott
Josh Inglis
Cameron Bancroft
Ben Dunk.

Amazing depth.

Meanwhile in Pakistan we have Rizwan. Sarfraz' career seems to have reached the very last stages.
Rohail Nazir is the only back up for Rizwan.

Ben Dunk is most likely the second best option after Carey in limited overs cricket.

Although we have not seen anything spectacular by Carey in T20 cricket.

Josh Phillepe is the new darling in Aus cricket. Gili and Punter both have vouched for him.

Ben McDermott is actually the backup as he is already a consistent member of their t20i team. Wade is next in line.
Handscomb did really good in India and in county circuit. He is certainly ahead of Dunk.

Unbelievable depth. We have Rizwan and that's it. Posters hyping Rohail and he has hardly proved anything.

Yeah they have amazing depth in the wicket keeping department.

You forgot Sam Whiteman, who was touted as the replacement to Brad Haddin and even also Peter Neville.

Who is the best gloveman of the lot? I guess it's not Phillepe.

Mohammad Rizwan
Sarfaraz Ahmed
Rohail Nazir
Zeeshan Ashraf
Azam Khan
Bismillah Khan
Mohammad Haris

And that’s disregarding the Akmal trio. We do have decent keeping depth. The issue is very few of them are being developed properly - Zeeshan was an unknown quantity till age 28 while Azam hasn’t got a chance to keep because of Sarfaraz. Bismillah and Sarfaraz failed to step up to the next level while our next gen hopes lie in Rohail and Haris. This indicates our past generation of keepers failed to get groomed properly during the Akmal era. That’s why you see three 20 year olds in my above list, rest are around 28-30 with no one in between.

The best pure keeper is Neville. He was even preferred over Wade during 2016 t20 wc.
Seb Gotch is also another pure wicketkeeper with a lot of finesse.
Carey is more well rounded though. Steve Waugh compared his presence in the team to that of Mike Hussey.

I'll tell you one thing, apart from Joe Inglis, all of the above mentioned guys are known names in other countries or fans of other countries as well.
For the casual fans, from Pak I doubt anyone would name some one other than Rizwan and Sarfraz. Rohail made his presence among the fans with u19 wc and has been the decent keepers in psl as well.

Saifullah Bangash was being called as a very bright prospect but i doubt even pakistani fans remember him from psl. He probably batted at 11 by KK.

Yup Whiteman as well.

I remember how Chris Hartley was being named repeatedly as the best keeper in the Shield but couldn't jump past Haddin.

Actually wicket keeping batting is one of the areas I think Australia are behind other top teams.
None of the mentioned players is a good LOI batsman bar Josh Philippe.

England is a team with unlimited options for wk :Buttler, Bairstow, Billings, Banton...

Good to see someone talking sense. Australia have been struggling with their limited overs keeper for a while

Australia are spoilt for options but I feel like they are investing in Carey for the long-term. He's solid behind the stumps and seems like someone who can come in during a crisis can bail them out.

If Ben Dunk bats like a lumberjack and is not up to first class standard as a keeper.

I get that but he won’t do Australia any harm batting at number 6-7 instead of Carey in T20s. Carey is a lovely touch player but Dunk looks like he can launch some big ones and shift some momentum towards his side.

Finch
Warner
Stoinis
Smith
Maxwell
Marsh
Dunk (wk)
Cummins
Starc
Zampa
Coulter Nile/Pattinson

Thank me later

Josh Phillipe is the future.

From what I saw in the IPL, he is more suited to ODI cricket than he is in T20s

I haven’t seen enough of Handscombe but I recon there is nothing to lose by playing Dunk as your keeper batsman. He has than animalistic Aussie striking feature like Cameron White and Micheal Hussey before him. Like Symonds and Watson. This is an Aussie beast that can win a match from a 1% probability of winning.

Ben Dunk will not be selected for Australia by performing in the PSL. He has to perform in Australia and for the last few years he unfortunately hasn't. He hasn't played a first class game in 4 years, a List A game in 3 years, and while he still plays in the Big Bash, his returns over the last 3 seasons have been pretty awful. In 33 games he averages just under 15.5 at a SR of about 115.

Fair enough but you never know with the Aussies, they can make random decisions such as throwing Warner into a Test match without any FC cricket, or give Ashton Agar a Test debut even though he was playing local club cricket in England the week before.

If they want a Wehshi, jaanwar hitter like Dunk who chews spinners for sixes in the sub-continent to play in India instead of touch player Carey or a very young and ineffective Philipe, they will do it and not look back.

I agree absolutely. Young crop of Aussie batsmen coming through are really talented, and this guy is in that bracket. Will give Carey serious competition if Carey continues his bad form.

Samson,Rahul,Ishan,Pant,Saha,Bharat that’s a pretty solid keeping depth as well. In fact not sure about Bharat’s batting and minus Saha who despite IPL is still a test specialist in my book , those 4 names are actually good enough to be a top 4 batsmen in most weaker teams.
