What's new

Arsenal FC | 2022/23 Season

City has to play Arsenal home and away

They can bank on clawing back 6 points considering results of the last few years

Even if City win both that's not enough and I don't see City beating Arsenal

Last year you were the better side against them and you aren't that same naive side anymore

Both United & City have an extremely slim chance of winning at the Emirates. Arsenal would have to lose both to not win the league.

The title race is done & dusted. If City or Liverpool would have an 8 point lead after 18 games no one would think they would fall short.

It is just that some people have a hard time believing that this Arsenal team is completely different even though have already been egged in the face numerous times this season.

Now they are clutching at the “one season wonder” straw & drawing laughable parallels with Leicester.

Arsenal have been the best team in the country with the youngest squad & youngest manager in the Premier League.

This is the start of a new golden era for Arsenal, pretty much like the 1997-2005 period.

Expect Arsenal to win at least two Premier League titles in the next 4 seasons & hopefully get very close to going all the way in the UCL as well at some point.

Relax. Why should Arsenal pay 100m for a Martinelli backup?

We need a number 9 and CDM - which is why I'm miffed about Felix going to Chelsea instead. We should be more annoyed about not prioritising these spots.

It wasn't about the 100M, it was Edu's go slow negotiations - 8 weeks and he couldn't sort a deal thats plain pathetic. Also I don't get this fascination where you and other fans seem to think we should look at back up players. Both man City and Liverpool over last few years have had 5 or 6 players of similar standard quality in attacking positions which they can rotate and quality doesn't drop, and I don't mean mediocre players like Nelson or players not ready like marquinhos or Vieira. We need to be able in long run rotate are front 3 between 6 players and quality doesnt in any game.

We were after raphina in summer and then Mudryk in this window, these ain't back ups, this is like for like additional fire power

Look at Liverpool last year they nearly won 4 trophies because they had salah, mane. Firming, Diaz and jota. None of those players were "back ups".

Our 2nd half intensity in games is dropping because are 1st 11 put so much energy into games and we will need like for like quality to freshen team and rotate.

The longer Edu drags out the TW the less likely we are to get anyone in as Most clubs will hoke prices up later it gets in window just like last January. This is why a good DOF has a plan and gets things done quickly.

We have lost the last 10 PL games in a row vs City, we have struggled to even score against then in most games. That will have to change in both game, we should do well at home against them I hope.

You can't blame Edu for this. Shakhtar were asking for an obscene amount for someone who isn't quite proven and established.

Is Mudryk going to replace Martinelli/Saka in the first XI? If the answer is no, he's merely a backup.

Arsenal have dodged a bullet.

I just wish we got Felix on loan and a decent CDM.

They are 8 points clear at pretty much the halfway stage, not relied on luck so not like it's a false position.

If this was City of previous seasons I would understand saying it's slim but we've seen that City with Haaland aren't the same side, number of games already where they are hardly testing the keeper, it's all very predictable. Plus they are vulnerable in defence even though the officials screwed them yesterday.

This City side don't have it in them to win 10+ matches on the bounce and that's what it would need to overtake Arsenal.

Arsenal are favourites as things stand.

Yes, it is fair to say they have got into a strong position. City might not go a run like they have in previous seasons but Arsenal could fall back given some tough fixtures ahead.

Newcastle and Man Utd could murky the waters even further you would expect.

Your sounding like Gary neville and Simon Jordan, so basically Arsenal are going to drop points which will probably will. Yet at sane time man city, United and Newcastle aren't going to drop points.

Yeah we might drop 8 points, but so will city and united.

United had 2 semi finals of the league Cup and an extra round of EL to play as well, so they will have more fixtures then anyone else.

Congratulations to Arsenal for winning the Premier League 2022/23! Fully deserved :)

I still feel they need another striker in the January window.

We will be arrogant as long as we are the most decorated. :)

Do you feel this Arsenal wining PL team is better than the so called 'Invincbles'?

I still feel they need another striker in the January window.

Surely the PL is done ? The other teams arent at their best, it would take a miracle for Arsneal to fail now.

Newcastle and Man Utd could murky the waters even further you would expect.

Murky in what way? As in outside battle for the title?

If that is what you meant then I think Man-U could do that but extremely unlikely we will

Bruno picked up an injury yesterday and he's absolutely crucial to us. Our objective at the start of the season was comfortable top half and a cup run, so we are exceeding expectations massively.

We do have a chance of top 4 but I still think we will fall away, which is why I really look at seeing if we can finish top 6 as that is more realistic.

“So called” :91:

Do you even understand what so called means?

Arsenal cannot be so called Invincibles because they actually were Invincibles. They did not lose a single league game in 2003-04 & it is a fact.

But no, the Invincibles were significantly better than this team if we do a man to man comparison, but Arteta is tactically superior to Wenger.

There is no way Wenger, even in his prime, would have won the league with 2022-23 Arsenal players in the Pep-Klopp era. No chance.

Current Arsenal team is the best Arsenal side of the Emirates era & certainly the strongest mentality wise.

It is hilarious how the agenda of the anti-Arsenal merchants have shaped over the course of the season.

Before the season started: Arsenal will finish outside top 4, Arteta will be sacked.

After the first 3-4 games: meh, they are just on a good run. They will fall off once they play Liverpool, United, Chelsea & Spurs in quick succession.

After 18-19 games: They will fall off after the City double-header & United & Newcastle could catch up too.

After they win the league: Meh, one season wonder like Leicester because Man City & Liverpool were off color.

If Arsenal do not prove to be one season wonders which they will not because they have the youngest squad & the youngest manager in the league, then excuse will be that City & Liverpool are in transition & they capitalized otherwise they wouldn’t stand a chance. :)))

Says the Arsenal supporter who didn't believe Arsenal could win the PL this season, let alone be in contention of winning the league, but has now changed his tune to Arsenal will win the league to the point he is preparing his post bumps on MS Word!

You just couldn't make it up.

A man has been charged with assaulting Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale after Sunday's match away to Tottenham.

Metropolitan Police confirmed he faces charges of assault by beating, going onto an area adjacent to a playing area and throwing a missile onto a football playing area.

Joseph Watts, 35, from Hackney, is due to appear at Highbury Magistrates' Court on 17 February.

Ramsdale was instrumental as Arsenal won the north London derby 2-0.

Spurs, the hosts on Sunday, have assisted the Met's football investigations team in their enquiries.

The incident was condemned by the Professional Footballers' Association and the Football Association, while Tottenham said the fan would face "an immediate ban".

Arsenal will get out biy due to usual slow negotation tactics.

Declan Rice is a very good player but do Arsenal really need him with Partey and Xhaka already at the club.

Surely they'd be better off going for a world class striker.

Xhaka is 31 this year, Partey 30 so getting in someone younger makes sense

Plus next year they will have CL football so need to be able to rotate

I think they will sign an attacker too

Moussa Diaby: Arsenal make contact with Bayer Leverkusen over possible transfer for France winger

Arsenal have made initial contact with Bayer Leverkusen over French winger Moussa Diaby, after missing out on Mykhailo Mudryk.

Leverkusen do not want to sell the 23-year-old mid-season, having quoted €100m (£88.5m) to interested clubs in the summer.

Diaby's contract in Germany runs until the summer of 2025. He has been at Leverkusen since 2019, when he signed from boyhood side Paris Saint-Germain.

The winger has eight caps for France's national side, but missed out on their World Cup squad last year.

Arsenal are also keeping an eye on Raphinha's situation at Barcelona - though it's likely he will stay put in this window.

The Gunners had been close to securing a club-record transfer for Ukrainian winger Mudryk earlier in the January transfer window, but a late charge from Chelsea ended with the forward moving to Stamford Bridge instead.

Drop in quality if Partey is unavailable is huge. And he is injury prone and approaching 30. So yeah, CM is needed and was the case during summer TW as well. Rice speculation is about buying him in next summer window not the current one.

Have a look at how Liverpool now struggle because they didn't address their midfield longterm xhaka and partey will be going into their 30s soon. Elneny and lakonga are mediocre, so the club needs to have a long term plan on sustaining quality in midfield.

Can't see anyone being signed in this January TW now, Edu always takes to long and he has messed things up like last January.

Marcus Thuram is miles better then Diaby. Has 6 months left on his contract and would cost 15-20M max, full French international and can play anywhere in a front 3.

Exactly what I been saying all January. I would take Thurram over Mudryk. We was willing to pay lile 90 million for Mudryk. We can Thurram for around 15 million and also Tielmans who has 6 month left to on his contract. Both we can get for combined 30-40 million. But Edu doesn't use his brain.

Seems like club has done what it did last January chase 1 player thinking they would sign him and now is failed they have no plan B.

Thuram is a better player then Diaby, has performed better then him this season. Also Thuram was in French WC squad and Diaby wasn't. We don't need an expensive misfit again like lack or pepe again.

Arsenal have launched an investigation into "two disturbing incidents" of anti-Semitism during their north London derby win against rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Gunners say one Arsenal supporter reported another for making "grossly offensive" comments.

Meanwhile, anti-Semitic chants were also alleged to have been heard at a pub in Islington.

"Any kind of discriminatory abuse is not welcome at our club," Arsenal said.

The Premier League leaders added in a statement: "We have been made aware of two disturbing incidents over the weekend involving anti-Semitism which are now under investigation.

"There was an incident at the north London derby on Sunday involving Arsenal supporters in which one of our fans overheard grossly offensive anti-Semitic statements made by another Arsenal fan.

"On the same afternoon, we were appalled to hear of an incident at The Cally pub in Islington, involving other anti-Semitic chants.

"We recognise the impact this behaviour has on our many Jewish supporters and others and condemn the use of language of this nature, which has no place in our game or society."

Arsenal said that anyone identified would receive a lengthy club ban and their details would be passed to the police to commence legal proceedings.

The Gunners won the game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium 2-0 to move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The game was also marred by an incident involving Aaron Ramsdale after the Arsenal goalkeeper was attacked by a supporter.

Personal terms already agreed — talks will continue to get deal done soon

Trossard is a safe and cheap option. No issues there. I guess it would be too much to ask for a CM this window.

He's PL proven, won't need to go far to relocate and provides more attacking options on right hand side.

We do need a CM still in this window.

MNS from lazio could be available on loan with obligation to buy and that's a no brained for me.

Hand on your heart, how many here supporting Spursrs tonight?

Just when you think Spurs are getting it together, they always end up falling on their backside.

Expecting a comfortable City win tonight.

Excellent signing. PL proven and has 7 goals and 2 Assists this season. Extra fire power going forward and also means if we need to rotate etc.. in FA Cup and europa league then he can do a job.

CM now needed before window closes.

Pretty happy with this one. Great price and low wages (so doesn't prevent any future deals), PL proven, in his prime, versatile, two-footed, lots of end product, a very composed finisher in front of goal.

Quite similar to Jota to Liverpool, taking the best player from an overachieving mid-table club at a cut price to add quality and depth. He even scored a hat-trick at Anfield a few months ago, wouldn't mind that from him when we go up there.

Obviously this was plan B, but it is being reported that he was on our radar for a while so it's not a full-on panic buy.

Decent job Edu, wrapped this one up uncharacteristically fast. Vast majority of our signings in the last couple years have been successful, think this one will be too.

Now we have the luxury of ESR and Trossard out wide on top of martinelli and saka, that means quality doesn't drop. I wonder if we have signed and registered him in time so he can play part on Sunday.

This is why I'm glad we don't have Richarlson even though he's a good forward. He would be having fights with the likes of Martinelli and Ramsdale every week.

Stick to a strong XI and decent back ups on the bench. It's a good formula to have for unity.

In response to your question. Grealish is a back up left wing forward. Mahrez isn't an automatic starter nor a backup. He's somewhere in between.

Kanu and Wiltord were backups for Henry and Bergkamp.

Edu is an invincible and has pulled out what might be the transfer of 2023 after the acquistion of Trossard. He deserves more respect.

Edu & the board showed faith in Arteta & gave him a new contract when Amjid Javed & other Arsenal fans were demanding him to be sacked.

He deserves all the credit in the world & winning the league this season is as much his achievement as it is Arteta’s.

Mudryk is not the last player in the world. Just because you want & need a player it doesn’t mean you will pay anything that other club is offering. He is not Messi.

Chelsea stole Cucurella from City in similar circumstances & City have endless money. They were not willing to pay what Brighton were demanding because they did not think he worth the money.

Chelsea did & it backfired. He is a clown. Probably as bad as Trent when it comes to defending.

Mudryk is a great young talent but him & Chelsea are not right for each other, at least not currently. Let’s see how his Chelsea career goes in the long-term.

Trossard is a fantastic signing. There is no downside to this. Zero risk, high reward. Hopefully he will be registered in time for Sunday so that he can make a cameo.

I recon (I hope) Arsenal are going to blow United out of the water on Sunday. Massive win coming at the Emirates InshaAllah

United will come and look to play on counter attack, so Arsenal can't give to much space to rashford fernandes etc.. we cant play to high a line defensively for them to run into.

I do think we will dominate possession and the ball. I think united will keep like Shaw at left back and martinez in middle so Eddie will have to keep both CBs busy and look to pull them out of position. I can see saka and martinelli running united full back ragged.

We need to play like we did vs Liverpool / spurs at home. Should be a good game.

Richarlson ? No one has even mentioned him, so I don't even know why uve brought that up randomly.

Strong X1 and decent back ups Is proof of team unity? Based on what? Uve just expressed ur personal opinion here.

My main point in regards to grealish / mahrez was that city have like for like quality players in midfield / attack, the quality level doesn't drop.

Look at city's team vs spurs tonight.

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Lewis, Ake, Stones, Akanji, Gundogan, Rodri, Grealish, Alvarez, Haaland, Mahrez.

Subs: Ortega, Laporte, Walker, Phillips, Dias, Cancelo, De Bruyne, Silva, Foden

City have gundogan, rodri, grealish, mahrez, KDB, silva, Foden who are all similar quality players, they don't have a set starting 11 and just "decent back ups"

Now that Arsenal have signed Trossard we are getting towards that sort of luxury

Partey, xhaka, oddegaard, ESR, martinelli, saka, Trossard

The like of Nelson, Vieira (unproven yet), lakonga, elneny are not same level. If we want to sustain longterm competition then you bring in players to rotate and healthy competition for places. City and Liverpool have proved that over last 5 years.

So what Edu is an invincible, so are other Arsenal players. He's in a different career now he's not a player, just because you were a decent players has nothing to do with how you are suppose to do your job as a DOF.

Where Edu has done well he deserves praise, and where he's done badly he deserves criticism.

It's same for all ex players OLE was a CL winner for united and was a mediocre manager, you think united fans weren't going to criticise some one when they did a bad job just because the won the Clun a trophy as a player. Life doesn't work like that in any shape of life.

Rameez Raja was a pakistan world cup winner, look at shambolic job he did with PCB. Should we all show Rameez respect because he was a member of a winning team years ago. You earn respect in the job you are doing now not living of past glories.

Arsenal are winning the league aren't they? Their fans are going to be even more annoying than they already are.

But as a United fan, I rather see Arsenal win the league than City.

Yes I don't want too many egos and in-fighting, that's what I meant by a happy dressing room.

I agree with your view about ex-players. They should not be judged by what they did during their playing days as the skillsets are very different between playing and coaching/DoF. The former is more technical whereas the latter is more analytical, leadership and etc.

My point was Edu deserves even more respect because not only is he doing a wonderful job for Arsenal from the goodness of his heart but also because he's an invincible. If I was Kroenke, I'd give him a pay rise.

But as a United fan, I rather see Arsenal win the league than City.

On PP, only Mamoon out of all the Gooners has claimed we're gonna win the title. Everyone else is still cautious including myself because I worry about what we're going to do if Partey or Nketiah (before Jesus returns) get injured.

I wasn't talking about Arsenal fans here. I was referring to Arsenal fans on twitter, who are the most annoying from my experience.

League has not been won by anyone yet. Big game against you lot on Sunday. You have a good set of fixture after Sunday so we need to take 3 points off you and move onto the next game.

Man United aren't in a title race, in my opinion. We still need a few more signings to genuinely compete.

It is between you guys and Man City, and at the moment, you guys look like favourites.

Once you play us on Sunday means you have played us and city twice, so your most difficult games will have been played. So you could win most of rest of games you got left.

So after United this Sunday at home, the City game also at home is only two game weeks away. Arsenal have good chance to beat United, then easy game against Everton before the big one.

Trossard completed his medical, so should be registered by 12pm deadline and available for Sunday's game.

Arsenal are closing in on deal to sign Polish centre back Jakub Kiwior from Spezia, here we go soon! Fee in excess of €20m, medical tests could take place this week 🚨⚪🔴🇵🇱 #AFC

Deal very advanced, as per

Never even heard of this player 🤔

I'm more excited about the potential signing of Ivan Fresneda.

I've heard that will probably get done and he may stay on loan at his current club till summer.

We do need a CM in this window still.

Understand Kiwior has agreed personal terms on five year deal — medical will be completed in the next 48 hours.

It’s done.

Arsenal have signed Belgium international Leandro Trossard from Brighton for £21m plus add-ons.

The 28-year-old forward's contract runs until 2027 and has the option of being extended by a year.

He has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 16 top-flight games for Brighton this season.

"He is a versatile player with high technical ability, intelligence and a great deal of experience," Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said.

The Gunners say they have submitted the required documents and hope Trossard will be available to face Manchester United at Emirates Stadium on Sunday (16:30 GMT).

Appears to me, Arsenal won't be bringing in a CDM this winter as cover for Partey/Xhaka because they're holding out for Declan Rice in the summer.

We saw what happened to Arsenal when they were without Partey at Old Trafford. His importance to the team is unmatched. He is the most important player and the first name on the team sheet for 2 reasons, 1) he's really good and 2) there is no one who's even as half as good as he is in his role as a CDM.

Going through the second half of the season without a backup for him is risky and could prove to be costly when you consider the fact that he is injury prone.

If the aim is to hold out for Declan Rice in the summer, Arsenal should at least look for a CDM on loan or a low cost signing for the short term who is significantly superior to Lakonga and Elneny.

I don't know what substances Mamoon been consuming but to be fair to him, he's not backed out and had the balls to go through with his lofty claims.

Edu not messing around this January.

Well summed up, the club has a long-term plan to build the midfield but also club needs to push to win for title as well. There are links now to camavinga on loan which would be perfect as he's miles better then Elneny and lakonga.

We are also being linked to this Fresneda kid which makes no sense to me. We have white and Tommuyasu who can play right back and at some point Norton cuffy will come through so signing a new RB makes no sense. Yeah cedric should go We have enough cover.

The LCB signing makes sense as we need another one. It's time Rob holding was sold.

We have omar rieki and Austin Trusty on loan as well, so long term Holding is not needed.

Arteta on Kiwior deal: “We can’t talk about players we haven’t finalised…”, Arsenal manager said.

Deal already signed between Spezia and Arsenal — just waiting on medical tests to be completed over weekend.

I know what it means because unlike you I watched them live. Bergkamp was my fav player from the team.

Wenger would have had that 'invincible team', if they played in this era they would have challenged City and LFC imo.

I dont understand the hate for Wenger from some Arsenal fans, your greatest ever manager.

Kiwior is a versatile left-sided defender, in a way I think that's indirect cover for Partey.

Who's the most suited player in our squad to fulfill the Partey role in his absence? Zinchenko. #6 is his natural position, and his de facto position for the vast majority of any match he's played this season.

In the event of a Partey injury, an option is moving Zinchenko in there and placing Kiwior or Tierney at LB (depending on how defensive/offensive you want to be).

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says Premier League leaders can still get better

Premier League leaders Arsenal can "still play much better" in the second half of the season, says boss Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners lead Manchester City by five points with a game in hand after 15 wins in 18 matches.

They face third-placed Manchester United at Emirates Stadium on Sunday at 16:30 GMT.

"We've won a lot of games, hopefully we can do that on Sunday and then we can carry on winning," said Arteta.

"The best way to try to achieve that is to play the way we are playing or even better, because the team can still play much better."

I totally agree with you on Fresneda. We have 3 x RBs which is already excessive as it is!

Even if Camavinga fancied coming to us on a loan till the end of the season, I don't think RM would permit this because like Man City they've realised now that we're a serious competitor to them in the years to come and probably regretting offloading Odegaard over to us. I can see Arsenal having a good shot of winning the CL under Arteta within the next few years. City certainly won't be selling anymore players to us.

Yeah we have Saliba and White who can occupy RCB so we could do with selling Rob Holding who I identified as someone who's part of the deadwood at the club.

Jakub Kiwior is a shrewd signing because Gabriel needs competition for LCB. I wonder if Arteta plans to utilise him as a backup CDM as well :98:

I dont understand the hate for Wenger from some Arsenal fans, your greatest ever manager.

I have no hate for Wenger. What he did for Arsenal will never be forgotten. However, time does not stop for anyone.

Football evolved & he could not. It sailed past him & he stayed longer than he should have. He should have walked away in 2015 when he lost the title to Leicester.

It was the ultimate evidence that Wenger was never going to make Arsenal a top team again even though post 2012, Arsenal had enough financial resources to assemble a title winning squad.

If Wenger was still the manager, Arsenal would not be in this position today. That doesn’t discredit what he did in his time & it is a shame that he had to hounded out of the club but he had forced the hand of the supporters.

If Liverpool continue to perform like this for another 4-5 seasons the same Liverpool fans who idolize Klopp will beg him to leave. That is how football works. If you stay longer than you should, you risk destroying your legacy.

Wenger was not the best coach tactically, he was more of an old school manager. A father figure for his players.

A tactically astute coach would have won a UCL with the team Arsenal had from 1997 to 2005. Wenger could not.

You may have watched the Invincibles Arsenal at a Highbury (or so you claim), but you don’t know what “so called” means. If you did, you wouldn’t have used it in this context.

I don't know what substances Mamoon been consuming but to be fair to him, he's not backed out and had the balls to go through with his lofty claims.

The same substance that made me realize back in 2019 that Arteta would be a world class manager who will make Arsenal great again & here we are.

Number 14 is loading, it will happen. Btw, I don’t want too much credit. It is not a lofty claim because the title race is done & dusted. Arsenal will be crowned champions.

The Arsenal fans who still think Arsenal will not win the league do not deserve to celebrate when Ødegaard lifts the trophy at the Emirates in May.

If you have no faith in your team then please do not celebrate when they win the league & prove your doubts wrong.

Ødegaard is the youngest captain in the league. Arteta is the youngest manager in the league. Arsenal has the youngest squad in the league.

This is going to be one of the most incredible Premier League title wins ever, and it is not going to be a one season affair like Leicester.

Arsenal have entered a new golden era after 1997-2005. Expect them to win at least two league title over the next four seasons if not more.
