Arsenal FC | 2022/23 Season

Too many of the main players have gone missing in key matches recently.

Jesus and Ramsdale against Southampton, Saka in some recent matches, Partey has been awful, Martinelli in the 2nd half against Southampton.

Defensively as a unit they have been poor since Saliba's injury.

Even if a miracle happens and Arsenal get something at Eithad, they will still drop points against newcastle / Brighton.

Arsenal are conceeding way to many goals and if Saliba is not back for rest of season then Arsenals chances of title are 0%

Reports indicating Saliba is likely to miss rest of season, no shock there. Arsenal need to do what ever they can to ensure he's fit at start of next season.

Arsenal ain't winning no title with Rob holding in the back 4.

Prediction for Wednesday

Man city 4-1 Arsenal

Mahrez will enjoy the fact Zinchenko can't defend and haaland will bully holding.

This will be 4th game in a row Arsenal will Not win in the league.

Won't be shocked if holding, Gabriel or xhaka get a red card on Wednesday as well

So you think an Arsenal team shipping goals for fun, playing a man city team scoring goals for fun and not giving many chances, are going to eithad and win?

Let's see how many others on this thread

Rana, immy, firebat, topspin are predicting Arsenal to get anything from this game?

I’ve left the game to Qudrat for Wednesday

Not very hopeful. If we win, I’ll celebrate like Pakistan fans did after Netherlands beat South Africa and I will chest thump by saying we are the best team in the league

:))) love the honest 🙏

William Saliba has serious structural damage in his back, leaving Arsenal fearing playing him again this season for risk of a long-term lay-off. [Mail]

Arsenal should get his operation done and pray he's fit next season, otherwise sane squad being exposed for lack of depth in CB area will be exposed next season as well.

Only bottle job here is you and you clown predictions. Title is in the bag :)))

Now your idol Arteta has been show to be a novice clueless fraud. Just like the fraud you are with your clueless predictions.

Your celebrating progress after 3.5 years? Is that the normal expectation at a big club.

Your really do talk utter garbage.

Once again, the “novice clueless fraud” is the ONLY reason Arsenal are going toe to toe with City for the title.

Any other manager and Arsenal would be scrambling for fourth this season and nowhere near the title.

Once again, you are blaming Arteta for Arsenal’s recent poor form but you don’t have the courage to accept the fact that Arsenal are in the title race this season because of Arteta.

If you want to know who is talking utter garbage and has been for 12 months, please look in a mirror.

Yes mamoon went early but amjid you are overdoing this.
What needs to happen right now for arsenal is this.
You would have taken this position at the start of the season- so focus on the next game and go out and leave everything on the pitch.

Rather then your wild fantasies of Arteta lets deal with facts.

Lets deal with Facts

Arteta has been in charge for 3.5 years and has only just got the team into CL and into a title race. Yet you keep dancing around like there would be no other managers in world football that couldnt take Arsenal over and in 3.5 years transform them into a team which gets back in the CL.

Then you keep talking about the club was in crisis, the club finished 5th (1 point) of CL spots and got to Europa league season before Arteta took over. When Emery was sacked Arenal were only 6 points off top 4, so stop making out like the team was about to get relegate etc.. with you so called crisis.

Look at Eddie Howe at Newcastle he came into a team which was actually in the relegation zone and kept them up, then this season he has got them into top 4 this season in his 1st full season in charge. Thats what you call taking over a team in crisis

Howe has got CL football at 1st Attempt and Arteta has taken 3.5 years to do so...

Other managers like ETH have turned United fortunes around in a quicker time.

Your hold lame argument is oh Arsenal are in a title race after 3.5 years because of Arteta, no sherlock your stating obvious because hes the manager, plenty of others could have come in and done the same if given 500 M and 22 new players.

Your really are clueless, go seek some help because your fascination of Arteta is that of a stalker / psychotic individual.

Arteta is a similar manager to Brendon Rogers, another manager who got a Club into a title race and ultimately chocked because he failed to address defensive frailties in the team and was tactically inept with no plan B, he eventually took Liverpool as far as he could and it took a world class manager in klopp to take over and deliver thr big trophies. Same will happen at Arsenal, there's only so far stubborn managers, with poor tactical nous and poor squad management can take a club.

Both bottling top 4 and title in 2 seasons, as soon as pressure was put on. Standing on touch line and shouting instructions after 3.5 years in charge shows clearly players haven't learnt much under pressure from a manager who has to even now be to hands on with the team.

This Arsenal team is now mentally fried. Having an 8 point lead so far into the season , they are throwing away the greatest opportunity in their clubs history. This team has had a great run, things went their way, played some nice football but when the business end of the league came into play, bottle opener came out of the bag.

West and Southampton not only struggling to score this season but struggling to keep goals out. Not taking 3 points of both when trying to keep pace with City was criminal. With tougher matches to come.

Some fans claiming coming back to 3-3 showed fight. Arsenal were clueless until Martin Ødegaard hit one well, which meant they had no choice but to go for it being 2-3. The mins before this were League 1 quality.

City will want to be brutal at the Etihad, unless something crazy happens, huge mistakes from City keeper or some wonder strikes from Arsenal, this will be a walk in the park for City, should win by a min of 2 goals.

Arteta helped his players play nice looking football but he hasnt turned them into soldiers, they are easily put under pressure.

100% spot on post.

Seen a few different suggestions for how we should change up for the Etihad. Most compelling one IMO is going 3 at the back with defensive double pivot to sure up defence and try to play counter attacking with Saka/Martinelli. It also protects Holding, by putting Gabriel and White at his hips.

Could look something like:

Ramsdale
White Holding Gabriel
Trossard Partey Jorginho Tierney
Saka Jesus Martinelli

Trossard has played wing back many times for Brighton and Belgium, versatile player. With Jorginho in the side, less need for Zinchenko's midfield presence so can go for the more secure Tierney.

Try to stay in the game first 45/50/60 mins and break when possible. If after that we're still in the game and confidence is steady, bring on Odegaard Zinny to up the possession and get a foothold to try push on and get something.

Thoughts? Anyone approach it a different way?

Ainsley Maitland-Niles will leave boyhood club Arsenal at the end of the campaign after they decided against extending his contract.

The Gunners had the option to grant the versatile player a further year but have opted against it.

A back 3 is something I mentioned to Rana as a possibility. I forgot that trossard played wing back for Belgium, other option would be saka who has done that role for Arsenal and England.

The back 3 should be white Gabriel and Tierney (he's played there before for Scotland)

You can then have trossard partey xhaka zinchenko or even have 5 in midfield and 2 up top

Brentford played a back 5 vs City and were compact and created lots of chances on counter attack, they should have been 3 or 4 up at the eithad.

issue is Arteta won't do it, he's to stubborn and inept and will just keep playing same way, that's what mediocre managers do, no plan B

Can see Arteta dropping Ghostddegaard for starting 11. So with him, holding and Zinchenko starting we are playing with 8 players.

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards says the pressure is off Arsenal heading into Wednesday's game at Etihad Stadium because nobody expects them to win.

Richards believes salvaging a draw against Southampton on Friday showed the Gunners still have fight in the title race and added that Gabriel Martinelli's "frightening" pace will be key for them against Pep Guardiola's side.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily: "The Southampton game was a little bit different [to draws against Liverpool and West Ham], having not played that well and managing to score two late goals.

"Even though at the end they were all on the floor distraught, I just believe they were always going to have to go to Manchester City to win if they want to win the league.

"There were always going to be bumps in the road and for Arsenal fans. I don’t think anything has changed. It’s just going to the Etihad right now is a difficult task.

"The pressure is off Arsenal because everyone expects City to win that game. One way to play against City is on the counter-attack. I would play [Kyle] Walker in that game to stop Martinelli.

"His pace is frightening. Everyone talks about [Bukayo] Saka and [Martin] Odegaard, but nobody talks about Martinelli. On transition, he is frightening."

Looks like xhaka will miss Wednesday game. Another Vieira disaster-class am sure on its way as a replacement

Mikel Arteta on William Saliba: “There’s not been real improvement on him. No news unfortunately. We are still waiting”.

“We are still hopeful but obviously, it’s another week that has gone by and he hasn’t been able to train with the team”.

He's out for the season, all club is doing is dragging it out. Best thing for club to do is get his operation done so he's fit for start of next season. The fact the medical team and club are dragging it out making a decision is a shambles.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says their top-of-the-table game against Manchester City will not decide the Premier League title.

League leaders Arsenal are five points above Pep Guardiola's side before Wednesday's match at Etihad Stadium.

However, City have two games in hand on the Gunners who have drawn three league matches in succession.

"We knew we had to go to Etihad, it will be difficult, but will it decide the season? No," Arteta said.

"The belief is there, I look at how the players reacted after Southampton, they defend each other in every moment. We really want it and we are again going to show it tomorrow night.

"But it has to be perfect because that is what is demanded at this time in the season."

Arsenal, who last won the Premier League in 2004, drew 3-3 against bottom-placed Southampton on Friday, after squandering two-goal leads against both West Ham and Liverpool.

"If we win tomorrow we have not won the league. It will shift probably the percentage, but five games in this league is very tricky still," Arteta said.

"We knew from the beginning City and Liverpool were the teams to beat, what they have done for the last six to seven years they deserve credit. We wanted to close the gap, now we are toe to toe."

Arteta said midfielder Granit Xhaka, who missed the Southampton game with illness, is a doubt for the City fixture, while centre-back William Saliba has shown "no real improvement" in his recovery from the injury he sustained in the Europa League penalty shootout defeat to Sporting Lisbon in March.

2 games before game vs Man City at Emirates Arsenal had 8 point lead, dropped 5 points and then lost to City.

A team full of confidence at one point and then went into game looking disjointed.

Same thing now with game at Eithad, I don't know whether the manager or the players were looking to far ahead with fixtures when it came to Arsenal vs City, but Arsenal have stuttered at wrong time.

City dropped points straight after the Emirate win, I don't think City are going to let Arsenal off the hook twice.

Arteta finally brought Elneny in last season when Partey was injured but the season had already been punctured.

He needs to put White in defence and bring KT in. Holding is never a first XI.

Needs to go high tempo and should play Jorginho too.

A must not lose

Poor squad management and not making use of players we had in 2nd half of season cost Arsenal top 4. Same thing is happening now with title race. When a few players are injured and the players coming in aren't good enough to play in same way Arteta wants it's asking for trouble. This is were a manager should be looking at a plan B and making use of players in squad jorginho, ESR etc... instead playing same way and hoping for best. Same naivety clearly shows manager doesn't know what he's doing under pressure

Champions league for next season is confirmed!

7 games boys

We have nothing to lose now! Let’s get this title!!

Xhaka back in.

Same back 4 - with holding and Zinchenko.

Man city will maul us here.

I reckon Arsenal will win tonight, the previous bad results have meant there is less pressure on them now as most people think they have bottled it but this will allow them to play with more freedom

Holding useless as usual and ramsdale shouldn't have been beaten from there

Ramsdale saves these in his sleep

Nerves!

Ramsdale has always been hit and miss, he makes great saves and then let's in mediocre goals like 2nd goal 1st west ham, Southampton 1st goal and now this one.

Playing holding Again, just shows Arteta is clueless.

Holding playing just like he did vs spurs last season running around like a headless chicken fouling people.

Men vs boys so far.

DeBruyne is too good

One of the best ever players in Premier league history

Arsenal passing to slow, to many extra touches.

Then just like City open us up with simple ball through middle, should have been 2-0

Haaland now misses a chances, the centre of our defence is a shambles

Saka has been atrocious so far as well.

Another save by Ramsdale, this is embarrassing Arsenal can't win ball back or even do anything with it when they do

Martinelli in the centre makes things happen

Arsenal could try Trossard at the left and push Martinelli centre instead of Jesus

Haaland misses again, why the hell is holding still on the pitch. We are playing with 7 men, saka, holding, oddegard and Zinchenko useless so far.

Another ramsdale save, if this was a boxing match the referee would have stopped this ages ago

4th game in row saka has be awful, knowing Arteta he will keep him on.

How can a country like Norway produce a footballing beast specimen like Haaland?!

Scary player!

Erling should have had 3 goals already. Arsenal have been terrible, they need to up the game in second half.

Goal given, well done holding

Arteta deserves the sack for this.

Same 11, no plan B

Clueless cone man

How is that a yellow card for kicking out

Should have been red.

The rest of Norway team is ****, they are as good as San marino

Oh calm down, we have defeated San Marino 10-0.

We have a population of under 6 million, and football is not the no.1 sport here. So having Haaland and Ødegaard is not bad at all.

Norway use to have a good team back In the 90s, current team is minnows level. Teams with similar populations now do better.

Arsenal need a new manager and need to get rid of some of these deadwood players that continue to bottle it under pressure.

Pathetic midfield and defence tonight

Another haaland chanced missed

KDB makes it 3-0

Arteta looking clueless like a clown on sidelines

Zero changes and out of hid depth

Arsenal well and truly outplayed. Men against boys. Like watching England vs Pakistan in the cricket

Odegaard is not in the class of players like Fabregas, Nasri and even Cazorla if you ask me

Odegaard is not in the class of players like Fabregas, Nasri and even Cazorla if you ask me

I told a certain poster in here we should have got maddison instead, let's see if they defend the ghost captain again

Martinelli and xhaka off.

Saka still on even though he's been garbage, sums up how clueless Arteta is

Men against boys.

League heading in the direction of Manchester at the moment.

Men against boys.

League heading in the direction of Manchester at the moment.

Remember when you asked me if I fancied Arsenal winning title before Liverpool game and I said No

This is why, a manager who has no plan B and even more clueless with subs and no balls to make big decisions.

Will be exactly same next season with Arteta and edu in charge.

This sure as hell sucks and hurts so much.

We were better off taking on the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League competitions and finishing 3rd/4th than finishing 2nd empty handed.

12 PL defeats in a row vs City, I said earlier in season Arsenal had a mental block vs City and a certain 🤡 who will be hiding for rest of season made excuse that most of those were due past players and current players were mentally strong
