Arsenal FC | 2022/23 Season

Brighton one of the form teams in the league and Arsenal have made them look like a pub side tbh. Favourites for the title

I saw this coming from Saliba. He hasn't been great since coming back from the WC break.

His confidence has gone. I'm worried that lack of minutes at the WC has affected him mentally. Something doesn't seem right.

Doesn't appear to be very assertive.

We have a very poor record vs Brighton and before the game I thought it would be tough. We have be brutally clinical going forward. Glad some players have been taken off and got some rest. Glad we've taken advantage of you getting a point at Newcastle and city dropping points.

We can't be defending like this against Newcastle, Spurs and Man U next month.

That was awful defending, 2 poor goals away by our defence.

100% it's been very sloppy once it was 3-0.

Also need Mudryk or Felix signings done as early as possible in Jan, to proved even more firepower.

I wouldn't care so much if it the error leading to Brighton's second goal came from Gabriel because we're accustomed to that now but from Saliba, that's not something I'd expect from a player who has been the best defender in the PL this season so far.

3-4 shocking defending again. Deflection of holding. Pathetic

He's looked off the pace in both games, lack of game time for France probably didn't help.

Defensively we have been woeful in last 30 minutes.

7 points clear.

This could end up as one of the worst bottle jobs if Arsenal fail from here.

2nd will be like winning the league for this team.

Impressive 4-2 win at Brighton and now 7 points clear at the top.

Could it be their year to win the Premier League title?

They should really be looking to win the league from here and embrace being favourites

Right now City don't look invincible, if they did then it's a different matter but I don't think this City side has a 11-12 match winning streak in them and that is what it will take

Arsenal definitely need to dip into the market though and not just rely on the squad they have

Worse bottle jobs? It's 16 games.

Teams have lost bigger leads later in season. salty opposition fans

We still need to sign Mudryk or Felix and another midfielder. City are city and can still go on massive longs runs.

Next 3 PL Games

Arsenal play Newcastle, Spurs and Man united

City play Chelsea, United and Spurs

I'm excited with the way we're playing and how far our players can go given their ages...

I'm excited that we have top 4 in our sight.

Winning the league? It would be miraculous given the end to our season last year and the fact that Jesus is injured and will miss three months of the season.
So realistically, no I'm not expecting us to win the title this season.
Won't stop me enjoying the ride but it won't be any bottle job or fall from grace from this position.

A lot of the top 6 play each other in the next 3 games, so come the end of January each team will be around the 20 Games mark, half way through, January will be pivotal.

I agree the football is lovely to watch.

And yes injuries is the key.

My honest prediction , Arsenal will finish 3rd or 4th, bottle the last part of the season after having a few injuries.

Just a reminder that Man United are the only team to beat Arsenal this season. We will do it again in a few weeks time.

It could be Newcastle, Spurs, Utd, Liverpool. There is a long way to go yet.

Top 4 you should be jumping for joy. City are still way ahead of Arsenal as a team/squad and defo as a club. LFC are going through a transition, next year will be fighting for the title with City again.

You will likely never see a PL trophy or CL trophy for the rest of your life. A good reason for you to be salty :)

Everyone in starting 11 did their job tonight, yes Saliba made a mistake but hopefully that will be eradicated in the next few games. Was also good how Xhaka and Partey went about their business quietly and effectively so that the players in front has licence to run riot.

Arteta was angry for a short while after final whistle, i dont think he was to happy with defending in last 30 Minutes, Holding came on and was poor. Tomiyassu was awful, got caught ball watching a few times and had some blame in in both goals and also the dissallowed goal, he seems to have a habit of ball watching and watching is runner.

The 1st X1 will keep winning us games, but players from bench need to do a better job.

:)) Spurs and Liverpool aint finishing above Arsenal, go dry your tears.

Im taking it each game at a time and not getting carried away.

Liverpool have won 1 title in 30 years so please dont go on like uve seen your club win loads of league titles.

Ive told you before, you will sound like a complete fool if you try to downplay LFCs achievements. Arsenal will NEVER suprass our trophy cabinet. You've only ever had two decent teams in history, this one is only having a purple patch.

Even today any sensible intelligent Arsenal fans would swap squads with LFC.

Enjoy your moment because in 4 months you will return your constant bitter rants against Asrenal.

You were the fan who showed serious hate towards your greatest manager.

Can I ask have you ever played footie?

So your just randomly picking 4 teams to all "Possible" finishing above Arsenal. The fact youve had to name 4 sides and cant even give a definitive answer so how comical your response is.

I am part of numerous whatsapp groups where most of my mates are Asian liverpool fans and they are all silent, always giving is billy big balls when you had 1 good season and won the league. Just remember for such a "dominant" Liverpool title you have 1 league title to show for it, so you should do everyone a favour like the rest of you fan base and go take the season off and crawl back out next season :)

blah blah trophy count, couldnt care less what liverpool have won.

1 league title in 30 years, so i doubt uve seen "Your team win any more titles"

I express my opinion like any other fan, i dont go into hiding like all liverpool fans after there team has a off-season which is most of the time.

Yes i have played football, and whats that got to do with Anything.

Go buy yourself a bigger bottle for your tears and get some more tissues for your eyes.

It seems you have little clue about the sport. I assume you played with your mates not in a proper club.

You are having a good purple patch, thats it. Dont be fooled and excited because years of your moaning , hating on your greatest manager has sent you bio polar.

LFC has always been a bigger club than Arsenal, we have won more, we have competed better and will continue to do so over time.

You have won nothing so not sure where this arrogance comes from?

They should have you on AFTV, you will fit right in. :wenger

You have zero clue what your going on about and thats normal for a liverpool fan. Your just spewing the same garbage i read in whatsapp groups every day.

"We are waiting for the big games in feb vs real madrid"
"PL dont matter this season"

this is sort of rubbish i hear from every Asian liverpool fan. All you keep going back to is trophy count.

How many league titles have you seen liverpool win because your ranting like a 16 year old.

Ive support Arsenal since 1987, I have seen them win the league title at Anfield 89 (Where came to your ground slapped your team about and took the trophy), ive also see Arsenal win the league at Old trafford and and White heart Lane.

I doubt your older then 30 so only times uve seen PL lifted at Anfield is twice, once when Blackburn won it on your ground and once when you won the covid cup.

Ive seen us live winning trophies. Ive watched us win the CL and a year later the PL. You've only dreamt about it. :))

You'll be rotten bones in the ground when Arsenal come close to win the biggest prize the CL.

Id stop now, its very stupid to compare a Great Club like Liverpool with Arsenal. :)

Please share your thoughts on the UEFA top 10 thread. :)

i asked you about League titles you had seen your team win, not a cup competition.

Also i aint comparing liverpool to Arsenal.

I asked you a question which you just avoided as i exepected you would.

Liverpool's PL win record is a joke.

We've won 3 x many PLs compared to your socially distanced league win in front of an empty Anfield crowd during the era of the pandemic. How memorable :)))

Is it just me but it just looks so beautiful how the empty seats of Anfield was covered with cheap red fabric stolen from the local Liverpool factory :))

thumb_108466_default_news_size_5.jpg

For a club that has won 1 premier league title, their fans are certainly quite arrogant.

Liverpool won 1 premier league in 30 years and that in a Covid hit season in front of empty stadiums. :)))

Can Arsenal fans count? Count our trophies to yours and then count our points in the league over the last 5 years to yours.

AFTV watchers on this thread. Happy today, will be crying in a few months. Wenger out will turn to Arteta out.

We won it, pandemic or not against City a great team. Lets see you do the same now with 7 points ahead.

But even you are scared of saying you will win the league. :)))

Wow your clutching at straws, your going on about points count? For all those "Points" you achieved 1 PL title.

"Counting" points is the equivalent of a cricket fans raving on about meaningless runs scored on a road or non-impactful inns.

Makes me laugh how liverpool fans expect some of legendary status because of points totals, facts are no one cares how many points you finished 2nd with.

On a serious note, I've yet to come across a single Arsenal fan on PP that has ever mentioned that they'll win the league this season and the reason for that is because we know we're inferior to Man City. There's no shame in that because they're blessed with the best squad in Europe.

We're just trying to enjoy the moment and whenever we do you just come in here with your snidey comments about us "bottling" the league and "2nd will be like winning the league" for us.

Honestly, it doesn't take much to get you riled up with so much jealousy and envy. You come across as someone who likes to give nazar.

Paul Merson says Arsenal's position at the top of the Premier League table is not a "fluke", while Alan Smith believes the squad is "older and wiser" for a title charge.

Is there a better player in the Premier League, at this moment of the season, than Martin Odegaard? The Arsenal captain’s international team-mate, a certain Erling Haaland, might have something to say in response to that question. But it is an increasingly fair one to ask, and the evidence in favour of Odegaard is becoming more and more compelling with each passing game.

At the most basic level, Odegaard is currently the best player in the team that is currently the best in the league. The gap between Arsenal and Manchester City now stands at a remarkable seven points, after yet another Odegaard masterclass laid the foundation for yet another victory for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Seven points. It is almost too much to be true for Arsenal’s supporters, who did not know where to turn as delight swept through their ranks on the south coast. City’s draw with Everton earlier in the day had presented the opportunity to Arsenal, and Odegaard ensured that they grasped it with confidence and conviction.

In his last 13 league appearances, Odegaard has been involved in 12 goals. Here he struck his seventh goal of the campaign, a vicious effort that bounced into the top corner of Brighton’s net to put Arsenal two goals ahead. He then registered his fifth assist with a glorious, swirling, defence-destroying pass into the path of Gabriel Martinelli.

Inventive and aggressive, Odegaard is playing with a class that few players can match. The 24-year-old is growing with each outing, seeing the passes that others cannot and producing the moments of quality that define games. At one point in the first half, he extracted four Brighton players from the match with a single piece of outrageous skill.

One of the reasons for Odegaard’s popularity at Arsenal, and indeed one of the reasons for Arteta giving him the captaincy, is his level-headedness. This is a young man who has lived his entire adult life in the spotlight, and he knows how to deal with situations of such heady excitement. “I am happy to help the team with goals and assists,” he said afterwards, instantly switching into PR mode.

Arsenal will win the league this season. There is no chance of City overtaking Arsenal now. They will not overcome the 7 point deficit.

Taking maximum points from Liverpool (H), Spurs (H) & Chelsea (A) has settled it for Arsenal.

The only chance for Man City is to do a double on Arsenal but that will also not happen. Arsenal will not lose to City at home.

Arsenal will finish 1st, City will finish 2nd & 3rd & 4th are up for grabs. I would like Newcastle to hold on but you never know. Very difficult to predict.

Most importantly though, come May, you will find yourself at the receiving end of another footballing season after the 2022 World Cup. This has been a nightmare season for you.

What a manager Arteta is. This is why I had faith in him since day one. The way he had turned things around for Arsenal & will win the league in the Pep-Klopp era is a crazy achievement. World class manager.

When Arsenal lift the title, stay tuned for all your old posts that will be bumped one by one. Don’t worry though - you can bookmark this post & bump it if Arsenal bottle it from this position but it will not happen.

No team in PL history has failed to win the league after having the number of points Arsenal has after 16 matches. That record will continue.

What makes me certain that Arsenal will hold onto the top position is the fact that they are playing better than everyone else in the league.

They are not limping to victories & they are not struggling. They have been without any question, the best team in the league so far.

Will Arsenal drop points from here? Probably yes, they cannot win 36 out of 38 matches.

However, all other teams will also drop points including Man City. They have already lost too much ground in the title race & have zero margin of error.

Congratulations to Arsenal for winning the league after 18 years & when no one expected them to.

What a shut up call to everyone including a large section of Arsenal fans who doubted Arteta & wanted him sacked last season.

Full credit to the board for not listening to such ignorant & impatient fans.

People have been hoping & praying for Arsenal to slip up since match week one. Unfortunately for them, it is not happening. They can continue to doubt Arteta & his players until they lift the title in May, it will make the success even sweeter.

The title race between Arsenal and City looks to have an uncertain outcome and it might be rather exciting, but one team that definitely won’t finish above either of them is Spurs.

I have feeling Arsenal are going to run out of gas eventually as its only half way through the season. Pep just needs to stop doing his funky team selections and start playing his best available eleven before their customary second half charge begins.

Can't take anything away from Arsenal's young players though, they have been brilliant.

Hold your horses. As you said yourself, we still have to play Man City twice. If they beat us in both games, the 7 point gap is almost diminished.

But I would love it if your prediction came true. Having said that you were the first to see the bright spark in Arteta who has sat down all the armchair critics so I wouldn't be surprised if you were to be proven correct again.

Arsenal have extended Bukayo Saka’s contract until 2024 amid their attempts to secure his long-term future at the club.

The 21-year-old has continued to be a key part of Mikel Arteta’s side, who currently sit top of the Premier League.

Saka is one of a number of young stars at the club who continue to thrive, with Arsenal keen to keep him for the future.

As a result, ESPN are reporting that they have triggered their option to extend his contract by another year.

He was entering the final few months of his deal, but will now remain at the Emirates Stadium until 2024.

Reports back in October revealed the winger has agreed to sign a new five-year deal at the club, in which he’ll earn £200,000-a-week.

With Saka being one of the Premier League’s top talents, there has been heavy interest from other clubs in Europe.

He is said to be a ‘dream’ signing for Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri, with Liverpool and Man City also linked with a move.

William Saliba’s deal has also been extended by a further year, with the Frenchman being yet another key player for Arsenal.

Like Saka, he is one for the future at the Gunners, who have been highly impressive this season.

Their 4-2 win against Brighton on New Year’s Eve has taken them seven points clear at the top of the table.

Arteta’s side are searching for their first title since 2004, with reigning champions Manchester City slacking behind in second.

Not even that, the first of those Man City fixtures isn't till mid February and got Newcastle, Spurs and Man United before that, teams they can easily drop points against.

I think the Newcastle, Spurs and Man U games are coming at a good time. Arsenal only have one first team player out (at the moment) and are playing like worthy champions. I'm not so worried about our fixtures in January.

It's the second half of the season i.e. after January, where things can change because our squad depth will be tested especially with Europa. If I was Arteta, I wouldn't let any of our first team players features in that unless we make the final, which would be played after the 38 games have been completed in the league.

Last season after 16 games man City had 38 points from same number of games. This season they only have 2 less.

City ended last season with 93 points, so I can see them getting around the 88-90 mark again.

That's means Arsenal will have to get another 50 points from remaining 22 games.

1 game at a time and Newcastle is next.

After getting whacked by Brentford, Liverpool are now 15 points behind Arsenal who also have a game in hand. :klopp :))) :)))

Arsenal can play their ladies team from here onwards & Liverpool will not finish above them.

Arteta is a genius.

Top 4 and lets talk then. All this title stuff makes me uneasy

Agreed.

Amjid - I agree 93 points should be enough to clinch the title i.e. another 50 points. If we can win 16 of our remaining 22 games and avoid defeat to City then we'll win it. But long way to go.

100% agree late just focus 1 game at a time, next game being Newcastle.

Don’t be nervous. Have faith in what I am telling you. I knew this day would come when I was backing Arteta through the worst of times.

However, I obviously did not think it would happen this season. I thought it would take another 2-3 seasons before he can win the league.

14th league title, 4th Premier League title is loading. The Norwegian magician Ødegaard will be lifting the trophy in May.

Arteta will become a club legend, Arsene Wenger will be so proud.

Arteta signed for Arsenal less than 24 hours after Arsenal suffered its most humiliating defeat, the 8-2 thrashing at Old Trafford. Arsenal was at its lowest ebb. The club was completely demoralized.

Who would have thought at that moment that Arteta would be the manager when Arsenal would win the league 12 years later.

Agreed.

Amjid - I agree 93 points should be enough to clinch the title i.e. another 50 points. If we can win 16 of our remaining 22 games and avoid defeat to City then we'll win it. But long way to go.

We have alot of players currently 1 yellow card away from a 1 game ban, we can't afford to be missing key players for spurs or united.

As bad as spurs are at moment, form in Derby game goes out of the window.

We need a minimum 7 points from Newcastle, Spurs and United. Let's see where we are end of January.

Never fails to disappoint with another gem. Please keep them coming KingKhanWC :))) :klopp

The reality-check by Madrid in the UCL final finished Liverpool. They ran their mouths before the match but Madrid once again showed that they will always be their daddy.

It is reminiscent of how Pochettino’s Spurs disintegrated after losing to Liverpool in 2019. They never recovered from that setback.

Klopp & Liverpool’s cycle is over, it is back to the pre 2018 days for Anfield.

Chances of Arsenal winning the league this year are slim, slight to moderate at best. Even the most optimistic Arsenal fans know this reality.

I love this to be true and bump this at the end of the season to say how great your foresight was but lets get back to Earth for a minute.

What are we gonna do if we have crucial players like Partey, Xhaka, Saka and Martinelli injured in the second half of the season?

Our bench strength isn't even top 4 quality and is the sole reason why we missed out on top 4 last season.

If we're gonna win the league, we need to be blessed with our first team players to remain injury free for at least 80% of the remaining fixtures.

This is why it's too soon to get excited. But you're not alone, there are a number of other fans (none of them support Arsenal) I've seen on Whats App groups who think we'll be crowned champions later this year.

Yes, also same thing happened to Wenger after the loss to Barca in 06. I felt he never recovered from that either. UCL final losses are painful!

I give ourselves 35 to 40% chance at this stage.

Yet another salty loserpool fan trying to knock Arsenal. Go worry about your own team.

You got to have faith in Arteta. Not only is he a tactical genius, he is also incredible at improving players at an individual level & we saw that at Man City where all their key players credited him for improving their skills.

The skepticism of the fans is understandable because the bench doesn’t look too pretty. However, that is mainly because fans don’t get to see what is going on behind the scenes with those players & how Arteta is preparing them.

When Jesus got injured, everyone thought Arsenal would collapse. The opposite happened - they scored 7 goals in 2 games & Nketiah looks totally at home as a starter.

I have no doubt that if required, players like Elneny, Lokonga, Vieira & Nelson will step up. We have already seen Nelson play with confidence & freedom that he has not shown in Arsenal’s colours before.

This is what Arteta has done. Plus, Mudryk & perhaps one more player will sign in January & ESR will back as well. Even if there are a few injuries, Arsenal will hold on & win the league.

In my opinion, deep down, every Arsenal fan knows this but they are reluctant to acknowledge their true feelings because they don’t want to jinx it & they don’t want rival fans to mock them.

However, the rival fans have no credibility anyway because Arteta has already proved them wrong & egged them in the face so Arsenal fans should pay no heed to what they have to say.

This is a wonderful time to be an Arsenal fan because it is just the start of a glorious era. This is not a one season peak like Leicester in 2016 or Blackburn in 1995.

We all know that when Arsenal win the league in May, the humiliated rival fans will try to cover up their embarrassment by stating that it was just one season & Arsenal will drop off from here onwards.

They couldn’t be more wrong. Everything that Arteta did over the last 3 years was to build for this moment. He had a clear plan, a vision from day one.

The only problem was that most of the fans were impatient & demanded immediate results. However, there was no short-term fix because they club was rotten to the core.

There was no identity, no philosophy, the fans had lost their voice, there were a bunch of senior players sitting on big contracts with massive egos who couldn’t be bothered.

Arteta had to rebuild the club & that was more important than short-term results. You have to give full credit to the board who believed in Arteta’s vision & did not succumb to the criticism of the impatient fans who wanted Arteta sacked multiple times over the last 3 years.

Maybe a tad generous but at least you understand and not getting upset like some others.

I honestly feel it's a fair reflection with 7 points in hand after the same number of games played. I feel for what your team is going through. We're just giving it back to another Liverpool fan after all his snidey comments (see this thread from the beginning).

I certainly think if we can buy a genuine number 9 and someone who can cover Xhaka/Partey in defensive midfield then we're in a much better position to secure the title this season.

I'm actually not in favour of signing Mudryk and it's not because I don't think he's good enough. I think he's quality however our priorities should lie in acquiring a number 9 and a DM.

We need to use window wisely. Short term signings is what's needed, like Jao Felix who can play CF and WF. I don't get why it's taking so long when Atletico are desperate to offload him. Having him on loan until the end of the season is exactly what we need.

If Arsenal have to buy Mudryk, we shouldn't buy him for anything more than £50-55m.
