Are things so fragile that one buy failure can kill our PL win chances?
Based on the evidence from last season and also this season, unfortunately the answer to that is yes. Arsenal are a far inferior team without Partey because his backup options are a liability.
Lets start from yesterday's game against City, When Lakonga came on for Partey in the second half, Arsenal struggled to control the midfield. Lakonga's positioning and overall game IQ is very poor. His positioning was the reason why City scored and why Man U scored 2 of their goals at Old Trafford earlier in the season. I reckon we would've beaten Man U at their home ground if Partey was available.Man U are also the same without Casemiro and that showed last weekend.
Lets not forget what happened when Partey got injured towards end of last season, where we ended up losing 3 games on the trot and we also got ruthlessly exposed against Spurs and Newcastle.
I would say Saka is Arsenal's best player but Partey is Arsenal's most important player because not only is he decent but also because there's no one anywhere near as good him to replace him in his absence. It's for this reason why Arsenal are in panic mode and are desperately trying to sign a CDM.
The injury of Elneny has also compounded things because whilst he's no Partey, at least he's not as bad as Lakonga.
