What's new

Arsenal FC | 2022/23 Season

Personally speaking, I don't think neither Rashford nor Martinelli are world class. Both are very good, but I think both of them are a tier or two below world class.

Martinelli is not world class. This is his 2nd consecutive season where he's played 25+ PL games he is still developing. In comparison saka and rashford have had more consistent game time over a longer period. Until all 3 players help their respective clubs to win major trophies and titles they can not be seen as world class.

Rashford and saka are very good players, Martinelli is developing into one and in another 2 years you will see how good he can get.

Bro, it doesn't matter if you finish 2nd or 4th. All that matters is winning the league, in my eyes.

And besides, if we finish 3rd this season, and we win either the FA cup or Europa League, to add to the league cup that we already have won, then we would have had a better season than Arsenal, should the Gunners finish second and not win the league.

Man United have massively underperformed in the last decade. Every United fan accepts that. But in spite of that, we won the Europa League in the last decade, a trophy that Arsenal have never won.

100% Agree on this, Arsenal have to win league now after bombing out of the cups. Winning titles and cups is what defines at Top clubs season.

I always thought Pepe was a good player but with the emergence of Saka and Martineli, he has got no Arsenal future.

Some really good goals from "poor man's Rashford", only a bit part player 🤣🤣 whose career hasn't developed enough 🤣🤣 and is a squad player 🤣🤣 Let's ignore the serious injury he had at start of his career. Also ignore Rashford is 4 years older.

In the Premier league (1st 4 seasons)

Rashford
11 Games 5 goals
32 games 5 goals
35 games 7 goals
33 games 10 goals

Total 121 games - 28 Goals (1 goal every 4.32 games)

Martinelli (1st 4 seasons)

14 games 3 goals
14 games 2 goals
29 games 6 goals
28 games 13 goals* - 10 games left this season

Total 85 games 24 goals (1 goal every 3.54 games)

So "Poor man's Rashford" is scoring at a better rate in 1st 4 seasons as a player. "If Martinelli gets another 4 more PL goals in next 10 games, he will have equalled same number of goals rashford did in his 1st 4 seasons in PL as a player in less games.

Some posters don't understand football and should concentrate on Indian cricket 🤭😉

Typical, this always seems to happen to him whenever he's on national duty. Hope he'll back for Saturday because we're already missing Saliba.

Richly deserved. He's the best player in the team which is remarkable for a 21 year old.

Bukayo Saka: Arsenal winger's consistency is rare but he has lots of room to improve, says Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta has praised Bukayo Saka for the "rare" ability he has shown to perform at such a high level on such a consistent basis but says the Arsenal winger has "a lot" of room for improvement.

Saka has been a key member of the Arsenal side that sits eight points clear at the top of the Premier League, scoring 12 goals and claiming 10 assists in 28 games.

Only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane have more goals and assists combined than Saka in the top flight this season, while he has also shone on the international stage with England, starring at the World Cup and scoring a brilliant goal in the 2-0 win over Ukraine on Sunday.

Arteta has started Saka in every one of Arsenal's Premier League fixtures this season, and talks are ongoing over a new deal to replace the contract which expires in 2024.

When asked if there was further improvement to come from the 21-year-old, the Gunners manager said: "Yes.

"First of all, I think you have to recognise what he's been doing. The consistency he's shown at his age and at this level is something rare to see. He's taken it with normality.

"If you ask me if he has room for improvement, I would say: 'Yes - a lot.' He's never satisfied, he always wants more and he can still do a lot of things better and more efficiently.

"But we are really pleased to have him."

Back to PL vs Leeds on Saturday, another 3 points needed. Hopefully no injuries from pointless international break.

Also hope Liverpool cab take something off man city.

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, 24, is Arsenal's top target this summer and there is growing confidence they can beat competition from Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United to sign the England international. (Evening Standard)

Looks like Partey and Tierney are ok, but Saliba will be out for an extended period. Big blow if true

We need saliba back for Anfield, Holding is a liability and we can't afford any huge slip ups. Zinchenko playing at anfield will be a worry as well as he can't defend either.

If saliba isn't fit I'd rather we play Tierney and Zinchenko (reluctantly) with white and Gabriel in the centre.

Some reports are now saying Saliba may need back surgery, if thats the case thats his season over. With Tomiyassu also injured it means we have to depend on mediocre players like Holding for rest of season and we cant afford any more defensive injuries.

Arsenal need to win with authority tomorrow.

Europa League has already proven damaging and Arteta shouldn't have taken the risk

Saliba ruled out for Arsenal

Mikel Arteta on William Saliba’s fitness ahead of Arsenal’s match with Leeds. Saliba sustained a back injury when playing in the defeat to Sporting Lisbon.

He is progressing, unfortunately he still has some discomfort. He is not going to be fit for this game. He is trying to do everything he can to feel better. I am very hopeful and he is as well.

If it means playing him in certain games then so be it. He needs to be playing against Liverpool, city and Newcastle.

Arsenal are keen on Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni to improve their squad in the summer, with Liverpool also said to be interested in the 23-year-old Frenchman. (El Nacional)

Bit of a pipe dream

Mikel Arteta makes one change to the Arsenal side that defeated Crystal Palace before the international break.

Gabriel Jesus starts up front in place of Bukayo Saka, who drops to the bench.

Arsenal XI: Ramsdale, White, Holding, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Odegaard, Partey, Xhaka, Trossard, Jesus, Martinelli.

Subs: Turner, Tierney, Saka, Smith Rowe, Kiwior, Jorginho, Vieira, Nelson, Walters

I really hope Arteta opts for this backline especially against the tougher opponents we've got coming up.

Ben White over Holding at CB any day of the week.

Tierney will do a better job at RB then what Holding will do at CB.

Let down by Liverpool after scoring the first goal. Hopefully they'll lose again next week when we go play them at Anfield.

Cagey game so far, Leeds have had a good chance on break. Jesus should have scored earlier with header.

Arsenal not moving the ball quick enough, Leeds are coping well so far.

Oh no not one of those home games where we struggle to put away a low ranked side

Really don't get why Trossard keeps coming short for the ball from white, stretch play.

Almost a 2nd goal Ayling clears off the line from Martinelli

Oh no not one of those home games where we struggle to put away a low ranked side

We need a 2nd goal here. Leeds look like they can get a goal here.

Our attack down right has been non existent

HT 1-0

Performance wise not great, but we lead 1-0

A second goal needed in the 2nd half to try and kill game off.

Saka can sit with his feet up and rest and be fresh for Anfield. Think ESR needs to be given 30 mins here. Give Martinelli a rest

Leeds pull one back, deflection of Zinchenko.

Poor goal to concede

7 wins out of 7 since losing to City.

Lead back up to 8 points (City have game in hand)

Next stop Anfield. I hope Liverpool play as badly as they did today, next week.

7 x PL wins in a row. Hopefully we carry this confidence and momentum going into Anfield.

Great to see Jesus back on the score sheet with two goals.

Arsenal do miss Saliba. They don't look as solid with Holding.

Arsenal 33 points ahead of spurs, they have 11 games left 🤣🤣

29 games, 23 wins, 8 points clear, the Arsenal march on.

God how I've missed Gabriel Jesus! And his reaction to being subbed off just shows you what a monster this guy is

What do you recon boys?

Can we get a favourable result at Anfield? It’s the most dreadful venue for me as an Arsenal fan in the past 6-7 years or so

He looked Razor sharp today and got 2 goals which will help his confidence. Saka needs to come in for Trossard next week. Saliba (if fit) for holding.

Next huge test Anfield, we need to take something from thar game.

Depends how well we defend, Liverpool will look for gaps to counter so Zinchenko needs to not be sloppy in defence, we need saliba back as well.

We can cause Liverpool problems. I'd take a point from thar game now if it was on offer.

There's 2 ways to look at Liverpool's form.

They've lost their last 3 games, so that might give us more hope if that affects their confidence.

But all of those losses came away from home and the overall trend for them has been good at home and poor away. So if that trend continues, Arsenal will have to be at their best to get anything out of the game at Anfield.

Everyone knows me he here by now, but I'll say it anyway: yes yes yes! We can take all 3 points, but I'm confident we won't lose.

Whoever's on the pitch, Jesus Saka Martinelli Trossard will run TAA and VVD ragged.

Liverpool midfield are non existent, Partey Odegaard Zinchenko should dominate the ball.

The only person who can hold us back, no pun intended, is Holding. But I think we have enough firepower to make up for whatever stupidness he might do.

This is our season of breaking voodoos, about time we don't get whooped at Anfield.

Liverpools midfield these days is non-existant and they can't run. However what Liverpool will do is what they did at the Emirates and look to by pass the midfield in transition and play through channels and look for space between full backs. We played Tomiyasu last time to counter salah. He's injured now, I think partey will need to play a huge role in protecting are full back areas next week.

Liverpools form at Anfield is different, only 1 home defeat

City, Chelsea and United all failed to score there. We need to keep the crowd quite, thar means nothing stupid from Arteta on side lines like last season. We need a minimum of a point next week

Surely the league is Arsenal's?

They cannot mess this up.

The thing is City's next 10 games are far easier than what we have left. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up winning all of these matches.

Half of our games are against Liverpool, City, Newcastle and Chelsea.

I think we need to come through the 2 games at Anfield and eithad unbeaten. If that means 2 draws then so be it, our record up north is what cost us top 4 last season, this season it will decide the title this season.

Agreed. I think that's the key.

I'm not too concerned about Chelsea as long as we're not heavily affected by injuries. We're also capable of beating Newcastle if we play well.

But against Liverpool and City, we have to be at our best to avoid defeats.

Before today's games, I looked at City's fixture list and I felt the toughest one they had was Liverpool so it's really disappointing to see how easily they've beaten them because all of their remaining fixtures are easier.

Looking at city's fixture they could easily win all of them.

I think Brentford, Brighton, Everton away could be tricky.

Whilst Liverpool aren't what they were we are awful at Anfield, we already lost at OT another ground we struggle at and we went there in good form.

We can't afford the naivety we should in 2nd half at OT or against man city.

Like you say we need to be perfect in both games, it it means being smart and coming away with draws so be it. We went to gun ho in both United (OT) and mam city game (emirates) in 2nd half at 1-1. We needed calm heads and needed control in thos games. This title will be won by fine margins

1 more win and I recon we’ve secured champions league?

No not yet, Newcastle are 25 points behind but have 2 games in hand, probably another 3 or 4 wins. Anyways title is target, I don't care about top 4

You sound like Arteta :)

I think it's in the bag.

Jesus back, Partey fit again. Squad has backups in most departments.

We are virtually 5 points ahead, and City+Liverpool away fixtures are 99.9% drop of 6 points

We are 60% there. Hopefully City drop points on the road

Not in the bag when we haven’t been crowned champions yet.

If we lose the games v Manchester City & Liverpool then Manchester City will win the title by a point or two IMO.

We have Saliba injured who has been very key this season. We are a injury or two away as well from losing our structure. Game by game. Main goal with this thin young squad is top 4 finish which for now we seem to be overachieving in.

Arsenal now 22 points clear of United, 23 of Spurs.

Yeah not exactly Rob Holding Centre Back I'm afraid.

^^^
It's also Anfield where they trashed Manu 7-0.

Whilst I remain optimistic, I'm also cautious as Liverpool at home are a different animal.

If you go back to January. United fans were saying "if we beat palace, then win at Emirates we are in a title race" 🤣🤣

Now 20+ points behind

2 best youngsters in the league (if Haaland doesn't count) and both at Arsenal

It's been confirmed. Saliba won't be playing at Anfield this Sunday. Not good news.

One of the reasons why Saka is the best right winger in world football (after Messi) and also why Martinelli is in the top 4 or 5 left wingers in the world.

If LFC win big tonight they will be full of confidence.... :(

It was interesting to see that Klopp rested his big guns (Salah, VVD, TAA and Robertson) against Chelsea. Looks like he's saving them for us on Sunday.

Yeah I noticed that as well, I hope they keep playing as badly as they have been. We need to be defensively solid and clinical up front on Sunday. At least a point needed from the game.
