Brighton (A)
League cup semi
Man utd (H) - FA cup
Spurs (H)
Villa (H)

League cup semi

Winning the league cup doesn’t even make you eligible to play in the shield, so please explain to why it is preferable to win the league cup.

FA needs to learn from other leagues. The Premier League clubs should not playing in the league cup - it should be for Championship and below clubs, their opportunity to win silverware.

Like the other leagues, you need just one domestic cup plus the super cup, which is the shield equivalent.

So I don’t acknowledge the league cup as a serious competition and will value the shield which I believe should be renamed as the English super cup and recognized and valued as a legitimate trophy.

Michael & Jesus are the happiest blokes in the vicinity of St Paul’s tonight .

This is a good opportunity for this club to win a trophy , siliverware to add to Artetas 3 big pieces inc 2 charity shields .

I hope you get Spurs & then face Liverpool in the final .. as if we lose Arteta will win something, beginning to feel sorry for him , when even his biggest fan in Pakistan is not supporting his bid for league cup glory

League cup winner can’t even get into the Community Shield over the team that finished 2nd, that is how pointless this competition is. I couldn’t be bothered if Arsenal win it or not.

In terms of importance:

Premier League winners > Premier League runners up > UCL qualification > FA Cup winner > Community Shield winner > League Cup winner

You forgot to add winning the UCL but I’d imagine this comes second after winning the PL?

You forgot to add winning the UCL but I’d imagine this comes second after winning the PL?
Arsenal ain't winning the CL, so doesn't matter where on the list it comes of so called priorities of winning trophies.

The league cup is Arsenal only chance of a trophy. So if they get to the final, enjoy the day out.

To many bottle jobs in this squad and. Manager to win the PL or CL.

Every time the pressure of expectation comes to deliver the team crumbles.

We're not scared of saying we want to win – Saka

Bukayo Saka says he and his Arsenal team-mates are "not scared" of saying they want to win the Premier League or Champions League this season.

The Gunners have finished runners-up to Manchester City in each of the past two domestic campaigns, and head into the festive period this year third in the table - six points off top spot.

They returned to the Champions League last season after a six-year absence, reaching the quarter-finals.

It is four years since Arsenal won a major trophy, and Saka is determined to help them end that run this season.

"We're not scared. The last two seasons we've competed for the league and come very close," he told BBC Sport in an exclusive interview.

"We're also back in the Champions League - we have some experience there now - so we feel we're ready to compete for every trophy.

"We really want to take that next step and try to win something."

Saka was part of the Arsenal squad that won the FA Cup in 2020 but has also experienced the disappointment of losing two European Championship finals, and twice finishing second in the Premier League.

"It's horrible, I'll be honest," he said.

"It's just that extra fuel for me and extra motivation. I want to get it over the line this season and try to lift the trophy, for sure.

"You work the whole season and you're so close, you've literally got one hand on the trophy, you're in the final or you're right there to win the Premier League, or whatever trophy you're competing for that season, and then you don't win it... it's like the whole year's work... and nothing to show for it.

"I know you can be proud of the season and evolution and development, but that's why more than ever we want to take the next step and win."

Saka on recognition and set-pieces

At 23, Saka has already become one of the first names on the teamsheet for both club and country.

This season he has scored nine goals and provided 12 assists in 22 appearances.

The Arsenal academy graduate has previously spoken about how Cristiano Ronaldo is one of his idols, and Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said it would be "positive" if he sought to match the Portugal great's career numbers.

Saka says recognition from those around football is "not so important".

"I feel like I know what I want to achieve in the game and people are always going to talk regardless whether I do something or whether I don't do it," he said.

"Even if we win, people will still talk. So my mentality is just 'do your thing and live your life' because people are going to talk regardless."

Arsenal have developed a reputation as set-piece specialists, and have scored 23 goals from corners since the start of last season - more than any other Premier League team.

"We're a top side and we happen to be top at set pieces as well," Saka said.

"We have some big players and players who are very hungry to score.

"I can't say anything negative about it. So, yeah, let's just continue scoring set-pieces and hopefully it can bring us more points."

Saka on Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel will start work as England head coach in January, and Saka says the prospect of working with the German is "exciting".

Tuchel won the German Cup with Borussia Dortmund and two Ligue 1 titles at Paris St-Germain, including a domestic treble in 2019-20. He became Chelsea manager in January 2021, winning the Champions League, Club World Cup and Uefa Super Cup.

"He's a coach who has won in the past," said Saka.

"He has top experience, so I think everyone is looking forward to working under him to see if we can continue and to see if we can take the next step there also.

The Three Lions' next matches are in March, when they face Albania and Latvia in World Cup qualifiers.

In reaching the top, Saka has not forgotten the people who helped him in his football journey.

He was recently reunited with his first coach - Colin Nixon. Saka was six when he played for Nixon at Greenford Celtic and they were brought together again by the Chase football coaching programme, which is helping people from low-income backgrounds get into coaching by fully funding their qualifications.

Saka has taken time out to support the project and encourage the next generation of coaches.

"I think every player you see, most of them had a coach - like Colin, for me - they started with... the coaches that believed in them... that gave them the opportunity," he said.

"People like Colin, we value a lot. It was really nice to reunite with him because I did my first session with him about 17 years ago."

Arnold has been brilliant .

Some Arsenal fans want spurs to lose to Utd so Arsenal don’t play them .

I think beating Spurs in semi & beating Liverpool in final , if it happens would be great for Michael , will give him some legitimacy.

… or…. he will remind everyone he has 2 charity shields which Mamoon is legally trying to change into super cups

Not sure what Arsenal fans you speak to. Is this another case of " Most Arsenal fans " and then referencing AFTV?

Tbf to aftv they attend all games .

do you think the league cup is in the bag ? Or still tough to win ?
So what if they attend all games? What does that even mean? Please elaborate. If somebody does not have the opportunity to attend games is their opinion less valid?

I don't really care much for the league cup if i'm honest and i've said it several times. So please direct this " in the bag nonsense" where its meant to be directed.

Not really but their opinion is worth listening to more imo .

2 wins away from a trophy should get fans excited , it’s been a while since the last charity shield success

Funny how your squad is near enough the same as last season (where you bottled the league), now your proclaiming after 8 games your titl contenders. reality is the only decent side uve played so in PL this season is Chelsea.

We will see how quickly you go into hiding again when it all starts to crumble again
We need this to happen soon!
Heck they could even crumble and still be out ahead

It is completely stupid to compare Arteta and Ten Hag. Arteta is the reason why Arsenal is fighting for the title again and the same group of fans who used to celebrate top 4 like a trophy are now upset over not winning the league.

On the other hand, Ten Hag failed to help United progress. They are in the same situation now as they were in 2022 when he took over, no closer to winning the title.

He would still be in the job if he had done the job Arteta has done.
This isn't the thread for it but this is not true. United are in a better place now than when Ten Hag walked in.
He walked into a totally counterattack squad. Pogba Mata Matic Lingard Cavani Greenwood had just left (unavailable in Greenwoods case) and McFred were the only midfielders. He couldn't say no to Casemiro after watching the Brighton and Brentford performances.

Now we have a much better profile of squad to play front foot football though there are still 6 players who need replacing (rather than 15)

Mazraoui DeLigt Ugarte Yoro Onana Mainoo Amad Hojlund Mount Martinez Bruno Zirkzee are all good ball players.

Why is it worth listening to more?

Provide experience of match day .

Anyway

Newcastle in the semi . I think if Arsenal can win at home by any margin , strong favourites to make the final .

To beat Newcastle & then Liverpool or Spurs will be a fantastic trophy glory imo . Fans shouldn’t knock it

Nonsense - I disagree. A fans opinion is not more valid if they go to the match and interview and rant after.

Are you saying a fan who travels home and away but then says on AFTV that if he had a gun he would have shot, this fans opinion is more valid? ( this happened by the way)

We've heard this nonsense for last 3 years

It's 🤡 like you celebrating not wining the league. Doesn't matter of you if finish 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc.. if you don't win title

So justifying your failure, most fans are seeing sense now and want this mediocre manager out

Arsenal need to win 1st leg of semi vs Newcastle well, as going to SJP for 2nd leg won't be easy.

Arteta was 'terrified' at start of Arsenal tenure

Mikel Arteta says he was initially "terrified" when taking over as manager of Arsenal.

Friday marks five years since the Spaniard, now 42, was appointed at Emirates Stadium to his first role as a manager.

Arteta, previously an assistant coach under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, took charge following the sacking of Unai Emery with the Gunners 10th in the Premier League.

"I just wanted to make sure I didn't disappoint anybody, that I was capable of doing it," Arteta said.

"I was probably terrified.

"You haven't coached anybody at the highest level, it was the middle of season, without any preparation, without a coaching staff, you get asked to take this amazing and big job."

There is a big difference between challenging and not challenging to win the league, so no, they are not the same. However, I wouldn’t expect clueless fans to understand this.

Style of play doesn’t matter. What matters is whether the team is in a position to challenge for the league or not. United were no closer to competing for the league when Ten Hag left than when he arrived. He didn’t move the club forward an inch.

Arteta should be terrified if Chelsea or Liverpool go on to win the League. Thst will bust this myth of rebuild, once and for all.

🤣🤣 celebrating 2nd and getting to 1/4 finals etc..

No other big club would tolerate such failure. Yet you want to dress up challenging in league as an achievement.

Big clubs are big clubs based on trophies they win, not some weirdo excitement middle age men get over excited by failing managers.

Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern etc. Wudnt tolerate 5 years and 1 trophy.

🤡

Arteta fan already rolling out excuses that Slot and Marescha took over better teams.

Only Arteta could have taken Arsenal from relegation zone in league 2 to bottling PL top 4 race, bottling europa league, bottling 2 PL titles

Mikel at it again. Starting Havertz in midfield.

You have Merino Jorg and Declan Rice on the bench but you are starting Havertz in midfield.

He better hopes this works. More pointless tinkering

If he's changed it up and playing 2 x 10/ 8s then let's see how it goes. We needed to alter. But Havertz in midfield has never worked

Manager trying to justify the so called worth of to two highest earners at the club.

I told everyone Merino was a pointless signing, but everyone decide to listen to GA.

I also said at start of season Arteta was tinkerman 2, doing what Raneri did at Chelsea

It's like a kid playing football Manager on PlayStation, oh I'm not going to win, let me try stupid formations and players in weird positions. Only think left is maybe start playing Raya left wing.

All this tinkering ain't going to win any titles, it will win the odd game here and there and that's it.

Pretty much because Jesus scores midweek he didn't want to drop him, plus Arteta always does weird stuff to keep his favs havertz etc.. in the team

Having said the above. I still think we should win this game with whatever line up he has gone for

Yep must win game, espcially as we play before Chelsea and Liverpool.

Liverpool have a tricky game at spurs

We have zero control in this game. Thanks to the midfield Mikel has gone for.

Partey is alone

No surprise really the other two have been Physically poor so far.

Seems we are just trying to hit on counter now

Looks like your attackers are clicking

No need for any signings

(Aka stay away from Isak)
The club isn't going to sign a striker in January

We seen this is past Giroud and Walcott wouldn't score for ages under wenger, then score a few close to January or end of season. Wenger would roll out the excuse we don't need one..

Same happened last season after havertz scored a few, now jesus scoring a few and manager will come out and says he trusts his striker...

Plus you (newcastle) are in league cup semis and decent position in league so I doubt you will sell to anyone..

I don't see him going anywhere in January

In the summer it's a possibility but a lot will depend on if we can offer European football, plus his price will keep on going up if he keeps scoring like we know he can

Good 1st half, we play better when teams are open and have a go against us like sporting, West ham, Palace..

The issue will arise again when we play teams with low blocks

I said to you at start of season if he stays fit and performs for a full season then. A £100 mil demand on price tag is justified

Plus a small purple patch of a few decent games against bottom half teams and the manager and owners, think it's justification not to spend

Even Arteta cheerleader wants Jesus and Martinelli gone in summer, but he will be twerking for them tonight

Crystal Palace press is impressive.

I think if we can break through that we can make this game comfortable.

Just need to keep getting balls out wide, as there are gaps to exploit when Palace lose the ball

This is the role that broke Partey. I remember he used to have the job of 2 men. Picked up a lot of injuries during that time

Just saying that. Mikel makes the change to sure up the midfield.

Should be alright now with some control

Ye. He's gonna probably play that side going forward. Good to seem him contribute
Probably yeah, because sterling wasn't in the squad, I doubt Jesus will be moved out right.

We have Ipswich next so most of these players will probably fill their boots again, before the tough January

Playing 1st, at least for once it transfers pressure to Chelsea / Liverpool to win their games tomorrow

That's Jesus for you scores the hard ones, misses the easy ones.

You feeling confident on league cup semi final tie?
More confident for the home leg and glad we are home in the 2nd leg

Also hoping you rotate a fair bit, I think anything more than a 2 goal loss and it will be tough to recover because you can easily shut up shop

The game in-between Brighton (A) and Man utd (H) in FA cup.

So Arsenal will likely rotate, but will have to put out a strong side, we saw in 1st half vs Palace in cup game an understrength team struggle.

Yeah we would need a decent lead going to SJP, as 3 of last 4 performances there have been abysmal

Job done, let's see how Chelsea, Liverpool respond tomorrow.

Time to enjoy Usyk vs fury 2 later 🥊

Great performance Arteta, but we’re not too far behind. Take me seriously when I say we’re competing with you for 4th :yk3

The mad thing is, Pep has completely fallen apart & the title should hypothetically be easy pickings now for the great Arteta, but now he’s getting his nose bloodied by Slot
