What's new

Australia 374/6 (50) defeat India 308/8 (50) by 66 runs to win first ODI

Kohli is finished. Another Dhoni in the making. Indian fans may realise it too late though

IND 93/3 (11) CRR: 8.45 REQ: 7.23
India need 282 runs

Kohli reached his peak and is moving away from it very fast. He is not Alistair Cook who retired at the right time. 2 years ago I predicted that Kohli will be finished by 34, but he won't give up and will drag on and on till he is 37-38 just like other desi cricketers including Sachin and Dhoni. :inti

Those making excuses about India chasing a big target have no idea what they’re talking about. Look at how Australia paced their innings, it isn’t necessary to go for 12 an over from the get go.

You have to be strategic and realize Hazlewood is NOT the bowler to target especially when you will have several pies served up by the likes of Maxwell, Stoinis, and Zampa. Even Starc looks pathetic today.

Kohli could easily have dug in and accelerated once he crossed the 50 mark - a century (possible a 150) was needed from one of India’s players and none of Agarwal, Kohli, or Iyer stood up.

He is averaging 37 in last 10 matches, not world breaking but nowhere near bad. Also has 94 strike rate, higher than career SR.

He is on decline but still a solid batsman.

Yup Kohli seems done, sent him to Pakistan.

Need a strong comeback in the next match, I don't think we have any chance at this game .

Leg side six off Cummins was an unreal shot. He still has it. Obviously is slowly moving away from his absolute peak.

No century from Virat Kohli in last 16 months, and he's 32 years old already. I wonder if he can cross Tendulkar's 49 tons.

India play atleast 15 plis odis a year. Assuming kohli plays till hes 38 all he needs to do is score 1 century everyyear and 2 in between.

I could bump that kl babar thread but again does kl in deserve to be mentioned in the same
Sentence. As babar Azam

Don’t group Iyer with the other two, who are high class batsmen. Iyer has an inflated domestic average from playing on the flat pattas of Mumbai. In Pakistan he would probably average the same as Hussain Talat, or even lower. He doesn’t have the technique, shots or game awareness to succeed outside the Indian subcontinent. The other two, definitely they could have held on here. But very impressed with how Mayank altered his technique and upped the gears today, a proper all-formats batsman

Indian batsman haven't come out from the T20 mindset
Australia keen on closing this out early

I mean it's still doable, he needs one good year to get close to it. But still disappointing as he was imagined to score 60+ tons even a few years ago.

Things are going to get pretty ugly for Ind on this tour can see players crying to come home by the time 3rd test starts.. thrashings + COVID bubble not a good combo.

He only need 7 centuries. He won't chase targets like before but he will still contribute with the bat. In order to prolong his test career he should give up IPL. He is wasting too much of his energy there at this point ot his career. If he doesn't then he should be ready for a premature end to his international career. :inti

If he did this easily end up at 60 hundreds

Still 36 overs left why is the hurry to hit big shots? couldn't india play 1s and 2s till 35 overs without fall of wickets and then try to finish like a T20?

Somebody has clearly given Hardik pandya the wrong definition of being fit or ripped you cannot be 6”2 and weigh 140 pounds the guy is a walking toothpick no wonder he keeps getting injured

375 was just too much to chase. We are losing this game because we lost the toss today. Why does this guy, Kohli even show up for the toss?? He loses 85% of the tosses.

Kohli dismissal

It was indeed too much but India is barely putting up a fight, you can blame your bowling all you want but throwing your wicket away is not the way to bat in this situation. Indian batting flopped today too, not just scoreboard pressure but stupidity.

Do you think he will even cares about tests anymore?. He knows 2018 Oz Test series was a fluke win. It was the weakest Aus team i ever watched play vs us. It will never be repeated. I am not surprised he is chickening out this time after 1 test. He knows clean sweep is on the cards. Its to be noted we got hammered in Nz, Eng and SA too. I don't know why is he rated so high as a captain. He had the luxury of best pace attack in Indian history. He flopped in WC knockouts too. I am a fan but ex cricketers mentioning he is better than Sachin make me vomit. I am a 90s kid. I think he will win all bilateral ODI series on home soil and occasionally outside. T20I's he mostly sits out anyway. IPL is paycheck and easy money. I don't hink his brands will let him opt out of IPL even if he wants to. You can see is social media posts also. Always acting woke and progressive. HE sounds so phony these days.

Pandya changed his bat as if he’s going stay till the last ball it’s a matter of couple of overs buddy

We have similar views so I agree with you completely. :inti

Couldnt watch the match but, scorecard says that was some massacre by Aussie batting lineup in first innings. I wrote in pre match 3rd seamer could be a problem for India but, didnt expect Saini to go for 83, while Chahal for 89! Chahal struggled even in the WC 19.

Pandya and Dhawan are still there. Considering the hype around Pandya he should atleast take it close. RR is decent enough but India has lost too many wickets and dont even have much batting depth. However, you never know in cricket.

9 overs of Aus 5th bowler are remaining (Aus weak spot), Pandya should take that on along with maybe Zampa if he can. Dhawan should try to stay their while hitting the bad balls away

Double hundred coming up for Pandya jr 2.0 :hafeez2

If he plays his cards right atleast 100 can be possible here. 8 odd overs of 5th bowler and 6 overs of Zampa should be right up his alley.

Match is over but it would be great to see some sixes by Pandya. Alteast something to cheer today. As Shoaib Akhtar would have said "Aus ne Hindustan ko FAITA laga diya" :P

I must say its so good to see crowd on the ground after a long time. I hope things improve soon.

If only India had more wickets when they were getting these pies from Maxwell. :inti

Yes, irrespective of how much Akhtar is criticized sometimes for his comments, credit to the guy for becoming popular for his certain style of vocabulary with words like jazba, duleri, badmashi, phainta etc. :kp

Australia so stupid they thought just cause maxwell did a miracle once against Pakistan he could be a full time bowler he’s the definition of a pie chucker like jeez

You cannot bowl spinners too pandya I repeat you cannot and pie chuckers is asking to be annihilated like what do you think this is stick cricket that he will get bowled by someone like maxwell

Cameron Green can be a genuine 4th seamer if 100% fit and his batting is already rated very highly in Aus. Not sure if he can hit as well as Stoinis but obviously looks to have much higher ceiling than both Marsh and Stoinis.

India should win this, Australia are doing their best to lose this game.

Starc has been appalling!

Lol! Cummins. If that would have been a Pakistani player, posters would have taken him on like no tmw

Starc is one of the worst specialist bowlers when he's having a bad day, he's as bad as random IPL trundlers at times.

Pakistan strategy is to make mediocre cricketers look good so they’re persisted with and mess up team combinations down the road :genius

Well i guess double the score at the halfway stage and india can come close to winning it.

Poor quality cricket in this little period from both sides

Australia's bowling has done as worse as India's top order batting, apart from Hazlewood. Absolutely garbage fielding and bowling by the other bowlers.
