How badly did india need rohit today who averages 60 against austrailia. Would have smacked aussy bowlers on this flat pitch.

No bro. They targeted the wrong bowler and paid the price, and tried to be overly aggressive when they were already at a good rate.

For a big total like 375, you need to conserve wickets in the first 15 overs so you can accelerate in the middle overs and reach a total of 160-2 at the halfway stage.

Then, in the second half, you up the ante. Besides, why do I need to explain this, I thought Kohli was the master of run chases with Iyer, KL Rahul, and co the mega stars of IPL?
 
Just to add, absolutely pathetic stuff from Australia. If not for all those dropped catches, India wouldn’t even have had a whiff at this.

There’s still a 5% chance Pandya has the match of his lifetime.

The ground is SCG not chinnaswamy, if you don't take advantage of the power play then 375 can never be chased here.

Secondly Kohli does not need to give any proof he already has 4 centuries top 6 indian chases. If you were watching the match i am sure you also caught a glimpse of that record.

Chasing 375 is totally different to putting it on the board in the first innings.

Iyer is a limited batsman and has problems against fast bowlers.
 
Why are the spectators sitting in big clusters? Wasnt their supposed by social distancing in people not from the same group?
 
Pandya’s SR declines considerably against quick bowlers. Has been the case since his debut I believe. Will have to see in later part if he has improved on that.
 
Another terrible over by Starc. How does Starc bowl so poorly in every other game? He's either playing like GOAT or absolute trash.
 
Not many people doubt my cricketing acumen here but to those who still do, remember what I said few weeks ago. Hardik Pandya is 3rd best batsman in India and given a proper chance he is avg 50+ batsman in test cricket. Its just his off field antics that stops him from reaching his true potential. Where are those people who wanted him to be dropped from the side because he cant bowl...lol :inti:

Most of his boundaries came off of spinners I mean pie chuckers if he wins India this game he’ll prove me wrong

India need to slot in Gill there or Jaiswal or even shaw.

Still disagree bro, yes there is a difference between setting 375 and chasing it but there is still a method to the chase.

Since you are bringing up statistics, Australia was 169-1 after 30 overs and India 203-4.

The entire batting hopes are now dependent on Pandya.

Currently I dont believe he has the technique yet but, hey I can be wrong. More importantly, Indian management doenst think he even makes test squad purely as a batsman currently.

Adding to this, India is only in this position due to several dropped catches. So just because it seems like there is still some hope, doesn’t mean the method was right in getting to this point.

Have you listened to that guy Vikrant Gupta from Aaj Tak? Always picking on Pandya for no rhyme or reason. Are they really Indian supporters? And if they are...cant they see or read a talent? These guys are sports journalist for 15 years it seems...lol.

Pandya is 50+ avg test batsman. People who understands cricket and says things without prejudice would agree.
 
India doing well but cant afford to lose any more wickets in next 10 overs and that would give them a great chance of victory.
 
Pitch is getting slower, ball is not coming to the bat. Will be tough going from here. Expect lots of cutters from seamers

Zampa is the key for India, if he gets hammered, then no one can stop India winning this match.

Best part of this match is that after Pandya’s lower order brilliance, people will forget the top order’s failure and blame it on the high total. That means not too much pressure going into the rest of the series.
 
People gotta appreciate the monster innings Rohit Sharma has played all these years, Australia absolutely shivers in fear when Rohit plays.
 
Dhawan and his million chances were keeping India in this game. But Pandya is all set and another 50 off 30 from him will open this game up big time
 
Zampa is 2nd choice spinner for RCB after Chahal but outbowled him today.

This game is very similar to WC 2015 Semi finals between Ind and Aust. Same teams, same venue, Smith century, similar 1st innings total...almost everything same

I’m not talking about the overall team combination. Overall, I still believe with Rohit in the mix India has the strongest top 3 in world cricket (out of which Kohli is the only one who failed, while Dhawan did well), while I don’t particularly rate the middle order.

Like I said, Pandya’s brilliance today covers up a lot of glaring weaknesses that India needs to correct.

No it's not. It's not like our middle order is settled yet. Iyer and Rahul both had a bad game today after a good start by Mayank and Dhawan.

This match was over when Australia crossed 350. Very hard to chase such totals on these big grounds. Pandya gave it a good effort though.
 
Jadeja is a curse in shorter formats.

We have not learnt anything despite seeing so many instances of him being a total burden in LoIs.

Hey bro nothing against you but pandya is just a false hope he’s very entertaining to watch but not a match winner in form of international cricket to say the least majority of his runs were off pie chuckers and a couple of nice shots off a terrible out of touch Mitchell starc. Though I rate his ability to hit spinners very highly but a smart spinner won’t let him dictate terms for too long like zampa just showed. Also he has a very nice pull shot against quicks but it always goes in the same direction he doesn’t have much control or placement. His offside game is extremely weak and it was shown today. He is bound to get injured with that 6”2 frame and 140 pounds of bones having him just as a batsman in the team and to expect him to do the miracles he does in IPL I’m afraid that is like having extremely high standards from a player of his caliber. Too sum it up he plays an innings like this every 3 years in a losing cause like viru Bhai said nothing to gaga about here been seeing the same pandya for quite long now nothing special here.
 
Saini averages 55 with bat and 60 with ball. It seems india have messed up his roles.

I was actually schoked by his dismissal today. He connected it well. I was looking forward to see ball going out of the ground. Then i realized this is not IPL ��. I don’t expect him to be a world beater. Once he is fully fit and can bowl 10 overs, I think he is utility player and good enough at no. 7 in odi/t20. I don’t think we have abundance of replacements anyway.

Players like Pandya are very dangerous not for the opposition but for their own team. They create false hopes and then when they are needed the most like in Semi Final of the World Cup they flop. :inti
