Australia defeat India by 5 wickets in 1st ODI (Perth)

From here the Aussies could have chase even 350-375, just goes to show how below par the target was
 
Some posters making a fundamental mistake.

Ashwin has been poor but pacers keeping it tight doesn't get results.

You need wickets here or runs will come.

Case in point, Aus looked decent even before spinners came.

Heck, they themselves took only 3 wickets this innings.

309 is a LOW score.

Ashwin was crap.

Pacers couldn't breakthrough post the first 2 wickets.

We needed some 330-350 and that could have got Aussies to make mistakes here.
 
Australia's approach to ODI's is the best.

1 or 2 stabilizers and the rest of the lineup filled with hitters and hacks.
 
Ashwin number 1 test bowler on BCCIs tampered pitches

He's lucky no tests agaisnt Australia on.this tour
 
If Aus lose 3-4 wickets before chasing this, then it will be a huge moral victory for the boys in blue

Look at his overall record.

The only argument I can accept is that he's really good, but his record is brought down by poor performances on all those cases he was match-fixing.
 
Now somebody should get out I want to see Maxwells batting before Australia finish the match.
 
There are 2 kinds of approaches here.

Either you keep it tight and maintain your economy but get virtually no wickets (which is what Ashwin and Jaddu did in NZ 2014)

Or you can go all out and try to get wickets.

I say No 2 is more important for team wins.

No 1 will only help you in personal stats (not average which would suffer but match stats).

Averaging 50 against India is hardly an accomplishment. How much does Smith average against India? 100+?

If I'm honest, that's my perception of Salman Butt too.

The best Pakistan opener since Saeed Anwar, but distracted by fixing in an era when many of the players were at it. He got caught and served his time, while most of the others never did.
 
Good tight over from Kumar.. Disciplined fast bowling is the key here.. Graveyard for spinners..

You're certainly a weird one, you wanted McCullum banned from international cricket for 2 years for not giving up Cairns earlier but here you want Butt back despite admitting your suspicions of his spot fixing not being a one off.

Bhuvi is so amazing at keeping it tight.

But no wickets at all which makes it hard for othersl

Still in the current situation, you would need a Bhuvi when others are leaking runs.

I won't name names for obvious reasons, but I think that a certain superstar probably failed to report an illegal approach because he actually took up the offer. That's why I think the ICC should have invoked its own mandatory minimum term for non-disclosure, whatever minimum term applied at the time.

Butt was caught and punished for that one instance, if he had been doing it for years (like you're suggesting) do you think the PCB or any Pakistani cricket fan would want him near a green shirt or cap again?

How can one think Butt under performed whenever he failed? Isn't that a stupid assumption to make? I mean, we have our favorites, but this is taking it to another level
 
Need to bring in Sran and see how he does too much to ask of him though.

Credit to Aussies they played very well and are deserving World Champs in LOI.
 
Not at all [MENTION=132954]Aman[/MENTION]. I'm saying that many of the performances look suspicious in that period and clearly the first two Tests in Sri Lanka and Second Test in Sydney appear to have been lost on purpose.

But there is a code of silence and the tough questions have never been asked, so no one else has been brought to justice.

It's best now to draw a line under it and simply say that in the case of Butt, he has served his sentence and completed his rehabilitation and should be selected or not selected on playing merit only.

The 3 most successful team of the recent past in ODIs are Australia, NZ and BD. Obviously, BD isn't as good as the other 2 but all these 3 teams have a really positive approach. When a wicket falls down teams try to get into a shell. The more successful teams try to take on the opposition from the word go. With 4 fielders outside the ring, you have the scope to go big in the early overs if you wish to.

Bangladesh's success of late is because of the batting approach. We have Soumya, Tamim, Mushfiq, Sabbir and Shakib, who like to attack the bowlers. Also we have a really good bowling attack - Shakib, Mashrafe, Taskin, Mustafiz. India's bowling in shorter formats is poor no doubt but batting is strong. However, they are not at all able to maximize their full batting potential. When India lost just 1 wicket in 30 overs, that was the slot to up the run rate and try to score around 7-8 per over without having the apply too much risk.

309/3 overs on a flat deck against an inexperienced attack is a par total at best. India scored heavily at the death, but the latter part of the middle overs is where they have easily lost the match. The reason why Kohli isn't as effective when batting first is because he doesn't really know the required target, otherwise he is good enough to score a boundary in every 5-6 balls without much risk.
 
What a chase so far. Exposed India's underbelly which hides a poor bowling attack.
Two small centuries are better then one big one.
 
Ashwin/Jadeja 15 0 115 0 almost 8 an over so far.

The pitch is really a road but even so, you'd expect the best to rise above.
 
First over Ashwin bowled well and he almost got both of them.

Atleast one of them.

It was just a game where he bowled badly.

Let's see what he does next game.
 
I hope India do better in the rest of the series, getting bored of one sided series..

Had bailey been out off Sran... Oh well. Well played Australia. We deserved to lose thanks to some timid batting and poor captaincy.
 
Having said that, India can still win this, if they can get Smith the rest will follow, its not over yet as PAKISTANIS believe.

Have always supported Maxwell over Ashwin, especially during those matches between CSK and KXIP.. Ashwin got to my nerves with his sendoff once to Maxwell

How else do you explain him hitting a century everytime he comes out to bat against India?

Maxwell used to sledge him in the past. The reaction was due to that but still Dhoni asking Ashwin to apologize was right.
 
Why is this Sran so lippy ?? He's only just started his career.

He should put his head down and get wickets.
