Australia reach 166/2 on Day 1 of the 3rd Test against India in Sydney

Australians finally scoring @ 3+ rpo. Not once did they do this before in this series.

On this pitch, Aussies should be targeted at least 450 plus here , the pitch looks true.

It might end up him giving his wicket to Ashwin. There are no demons in this pitch and we need batsmen to make mistakes. Hope he goes overboard and holes out.
Yeah, now we can only hope for batsmen to commit mistakes.

Introducing Saini after 30 overs.
No jaddu even after 40 overs.
Come on guys.
Forgot to bowl off side.

These two are the key here for Aussies getting the solid total , one of these must play a long innings here

How is Bumrah able to generate 138-140 k speed with such a docile run up. He just jogs up to the crease... damn.

Australia would be feeing very bad about the rain today. Big toss to win and they could have been 350 by now

He has a strong upper body that gives him the extra strength at time of delivery. Pretty sure it is very taxing on him but he has found his method that works

Australia would have to work hard to get India out twice here , unless pitch changes on last two days

For Australia also it will be tough to get Indian batsmen. India also has pretty deep

We are batting last here . That's a lot harder. This Australias match to lose. No chance of Indian win here. We can draw the match maybe.

India need a wicket here before the close, wicket looks a good one though for batting.

Australia's Claire Polosak made history yet again as se became the first woman umpire to officiate in a men's Test with the start of India vs Australia first Test in Sydney from Thursday.

32-year-old Claire Polosak is also the first woman umpire in men's ODI and first female umpire in domestic men's game. In 2019, she officiated the final of World Cricket League (WCL) Division 2 between Namibia and Oman. In December 2018, she and colleague Eloise Sheridan became the first female umpires to officiate on-field together during a professional match in Australia when Adelaide Strikers faced Melbourne Stars in the WBBL. Also, in 2016, New Zealand's Kathy Cross and Polosak became the first two female umpires to officiate at the Women's World T20.

Claire Polosak is performing her duties as the fourth umpire in the ongoing third Test between India and Australia.

The New South Wales-born official, who started umpiring at a tender age of 15, showed great courage on the histotic day, when she reprimanded David Warner even before a ball was bowled. She asked David Warner to move off the pitch and do his shadow batting from behind the rope.

As per ICC rules for Test matches, the fourth umpire is appointed by the home cricket board from their nominees to the International Panel of ICC Umpires and from the host country. The duties of a fourth umpire include bringing on the new ball, carrying drinks on to the field for the umpires, checking the batteries in the light meter, observing the pitch during the lunch and tea intervals to make sure there is no interference, and bringing on new bails.

The fourth umpire can also take over the third umpire's position if something happens to one of the on-field umpires, in which the third umpire could take over on-field duties.

"I never played cricket, but I always followed cricket, and my parents got me into it [umpiring], Dad used to drive me up from Goulburn to do the umpires course here. It took a few times to pass but it was something I was determined to do and I just kept working through the grades in Sydney competition.

"I've probably had to work a little bit harder [than men] but it's all part of the enjoyment, and being able to do well makes it even better. It just shows there is a pathway now, there are increased opportunities," Claire Polosak had earlier said while talking about his umiring career.

India would not mind a draw here, by the way I do not think the pitch will change that much , India can easily overtake or come very close to Aussies. Aussies bowlers would have to bowl some miraculous spell here to get a big lead.

The series is tied at 1 - 1 , India should not mind draw here

The wicket is flat but my gut feeling is that Indians will crumble under a big first innings score which the Australians will set.. However luckily for the Indians a lot of the day was lost due to rain...

Looks like Australia prepared this pitch to give confidence to their flailing batsmen. And toss win was a bonus

Important for Ashwin to get into wickets column tomorrow.

Aussies on track here - flat pitch or not, it only takes a couple of quick wickets to crumble against a big first inns total

We are cruising to make 550.

Then watch these great Indians collapse and try to find excuses.

Indian need to get these 2 out early on day 2 if they can then the rest of batting can be exposed. Crucial 1st session tomorrow for both teams.

Have to disagree AJ, Green, Paine, Wade, even Starc can bat, they bat all the way to 10. Indians cant stop the inevitable, which would be about 500 + runs put on board by Oz, key for Indians is not to lose wickets under the pressure of the runs piled up..

Smith and Marnuc are going to smash these Indians.

Then you have Wade, Green, and then the bowling all-rounders, lol at India.

Aussies should be ashamed of losing to An extremely depleted indian side at Melbourne. Lost last series here also. So my advice will to stay grounded. Its 166 for 2 not 366 for 2.

To be honest, Australia is in a good position, but a few wickets from India will put them back to contest easily, given how long the Australian tail is.

166/2 is a good start, but India have one major concern. The ball is 55 overs old, and from the looks of it, the pitch isn't spinning too much. Jadeja and Ashwin are probably going to bowl a lot until the 90th over, so they would hope that the Aussies don't get too many runs from the overs of spin. It can go in a bunch of ways, but after the first session on day 2, we'll know much more.

Last Sydney test we played in 2018, India scored 622/7 (d) in 1st innings. And the test match went onto become draw.

So its a high scoring venue for team batting 1st. Australia won a very good toss and India is playing catching game now. Win looks out of equation but somehow need to get a draw. Then lets go to Brisbane to play the decider and beat them on their 42 year old fortress.

The amount of yap some of the Indian fans and their apologists have given in the last few days, you better win this game...

The only difference between this aussie team and the one that lost the second test is they traded a couple of crap openers with two moderately competent ones. And what a difference it has made. Pakistan could learn a thing or two from this, it doesnt take a lot to turn a mildly average team like ours into a very competitive one like this aussie team. We have a lot of the same ingredients these guys have just havent quite figured out all the puzzle pieces. Need patience!

And the fact that India is missing its top 5 players makes no difference?

India is playing without 4 pacers who would have played ahead of two newbies. Two pacers with 0-1 tests. India is missing the best batsman they had.

The result is predictable. Yes, I know what happened in the 2nd test, but that was probably the best comeback I have ever seen. It does not happen all the time.

The result is pretty much known to me, still want to see some good cricket here.

No point of excuses before the match has even started.

Just like Australia was missing its key players in 2018? :inti

There is a difference though. Australia was playing at home and only missing 2 players. They had their first choice bowling line up even back then.

Here India is missing Captain and best batsman.

Missing Ishant, Shami and Umesh i.e 80% of seam attack. Our pace attack consists of 1 seamer on debut and another on his 2nd test.

One opener is playing his 2nd test.

And all of these while playing away from home.

I am not complaining as I am still fairly confident we will win even with this side. But I am amazed that people who always uses asterics are behaving as if this is India's full strength team.

What a poor wicket, aus making 500 here but it will take another full day. Aus will hav 3 days to bowl out ind twice.

Fans who were not accepting that we beat Aus C in 2018 are the ones reminding everyone of India missing key players here. That is hypocrisy. In 2018 I kept saying that Aus were missing Warner and Smith, they were down on confidence due to sandpaper controversy but fans were saying that they played their best possible XI at that time. So my question is why are you guys using this excuse of missing players now? :inti

Australia was playing at home and were missing 2 batsmen. India would beat any team in India even without 2 main batsman - Kohli and Rahane. A full strength England side was struggling against Jayant Yadav and Karun Nair when they toured in 2016. So playing at home makes a huge difference. Just because their 2 batsmen were missing, it does not necessarily makes them their C team. That Australian side would dish out innings defeat to all other Asian teams. The reason India won back then was due to some terrific all round cricket.

The situation with India this time is totally different. We are missing our 3 main seamers, captain & best batsman, 3 debutants. It would not have been an issue if the matches were in India as this same weak Indian team is capable of beating Australia in India. But going to Australia without 5 main players and beating them at their home in a series is bit far fetched.

he responded from the treatment i gave the austrlian good lad aint he ?

A 50 on a flat pitch with three chances. And then technique exposed by Joel Saini Garner :rabada2

I don't mind if he does well. I have nothing against him. First time I'm seeing him. Has a cool personality. Nothing to dislike unlike Labu. But skeptical how long his hand-eye will work with that initial front foot movement. Robin Uthappa had a similar style and after some great match-winning knocks for India was never able to make it back.

I always said I'd pick specialist keeper than avg keeper batsman.. So how's Pant's keeping today 😜😜..

Test matches should be played by a specialist keeper, no brainer.

Actually not much difference had Pant hold on the catch(es)..

then Saha should have played over Dhoni all those years? Most teams play WK bats over pure WK these days

If you want a definition of low life, look into mirror ASAP. You never appreciated India’s good performances but always ready to bash team regardless of win or loss. India won fair and square in 2018 as India did not force your beloved criminals to use sand papers. Still burning or do you need more lessons?

Well said
