I have witnessed entire cricket games being played at University of Sydney. I frequently visit to watch some games. We really should be doing everything we can to fast track the likes of Vidler, Anderson, Beardman and Straker as fast as possible through the system.
We seem to have a very decent line of bowlers coming up as our next generation, not so much on the batting side. Ollie Peake is basically rated as our top upcoming batting talent.
It makes no sense that the talent is drying up. These uni kids who are playing casually are leagues > other countries that play school/uni cricket.
I applied for the Sydney cricket society and their training regime ended me so I quot before the games could even be played.
Far cry from Pakistani uni's that let any tom dick and Harry play and that too on lawns with tennis balls. Not sure about UK though. Was only their for 3 years and I never observed that culture.
Anyway Sydney's training regime and cricketing structure is strong enough to have players outright dominate club cricketers and compete in low tier domestic leagues.
And this is Uni cricket. I havent actually touched upon FC cricket which is leagues > that? It makes zero sense Aus isnt able to find openers and talented players?
I dont get it?
