What's new

Australia v England at Sydney

It's so funny listening to the Pom comms (Botham and Athers) - you can tell they're so excited but they don't want to show it yet...

Symonds not out. Nixon appealed for stumped. It will be given not out.

Symmo looks like he's going to retire hurt.

Looks like it will be a precaution for the WC. No point in risking Symmo just to win this match.

Hussey gggoooooooooonnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeee

BOWLED! Hussey out! Chopped on. Dear oh dear.
5/137. Bopara gets his first wicket tonight.

Nasser Hussain literally squealed with excitement after that wicket.

Cammy White will have to play an unfamiliar innings here - he'll have to shepherd the tail for another 150-odd runs.

Nathan Bracken is the new batsman ..........

big opening for the english.........

The tail will have to wag alot! Bracken and White are the key at the moment. I doubt they will risk Symonds in this match and save him for the World Cup.

1 Pak and 2 Indians in the starting 11 for England give it another 5 years it be taken over :P

He doesnt have to talk every 5 minutes as Andy G hits a boundary over cover.
5/156
29 overs.

Bracken 10
White 10

OSGOD say somthing you to quiet

I'm about to go to bed mate, it's nearly 5am here in Boston. Why don't you say something?

Freddy Flintoff gets a wicket first ball! Game over!
White fails once again under pressure and Nixon takes the catch. He goes for 13.
6/160.

7 down now (including Symmo) with still about 130 to get. Too much for the tailenders I reckon. Off to bed, see you all tomorrow...

Big smiles on the Englishmen and they will be happy to beat Australia finally on this tour.
I also expect that Rob will be very happy when he finds out the who will win this match.
I reckon the English commentators are celebrating like crazy in the sky box.

30.1 Flintoff to White, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
Andrew Flintoff brings himself back in the attack now

Flintoff strikes...........aussies should loose this..unless symonds comes out and plays a blinder.

Cya OG. Freddies first wicket in the series. Took him that long to get one! :)))

Knighthoods all round.

Someone hire a bus.

Get Paul Nixon a hair transplant.

Fire up the furnaces and start melting the lead for the statue.

I wouldnt be expecting Roy to come out when it is so so hard to win.

Out out goooooooorn! Bracken bowled by Monty for 22.
7/180 as Pigeon walks out to the crease. This is probably the highest he has ever batted for Australia(Yes I do know he batted at 6 in the tsunami match.)

33.6 Panesar to Bracken, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!

Monty strikesssssssssssss...........bracken gone.......game over........

Looks like the last game of the series - Eng vs NZ on Tuesday should be great. This series will go right down to the wire between those 2 teams.

4 more to Stewie Clark.
7/187
36 overs.

Clark 14
McGrath 1 (11 until new high score) :)

OUT! Plunkett gets his 3rd and Pigeon makes his way back for 1.
Tait to come out. Last batsmen I think.
8/187

Clark hits Panesar down the ground for 4. SIX! WHAT A SHOT!
Way way back into the crowd. Sorry those 2 shots were from Tait. Brilliant!

GONE! Tait ran out for 12. Clark ended up on 15. All out for 200.
GAME SET AND MATCH ENGLAND!!! First win against Australia all summer! Freddy will have a beaming smile and so will all the players, supporters and the Sky Commentary box.
Well done to them. 92 run victors.

England have clicked way too late though. They needed to click as soon as they landed in Australia.

That is also Australia's first loss for the summer. They wont have an invincible summer like some thought.

Joyce to win MOTM.

And I am correct. Edward Joyce wins the MOM. Gotta love the Irish accent. :)))

Nope. Im 90% certain that they needed to bowl them out for under 200. I think it was 180 odd.

cricinfo confirmed jsut now Eng got bonus point too. Aus have done their bit of revenge on NZ, now it's upto Eng to defeat NZ

Great victory for England. Finally they win against the Aussie.

The Aussies though have looked to be beatable twice in a row now. All teams should take heart from that and must know that the World Cup is still wide open.

Good win, been a long time coming and it doesn't make the rest of the tour worth it at all, but bowling Australia out cheaply is something we haven't done often enough recently and it was enjoyable to watch. The batting was excellent and the bowling was pretty good, especially the spells of Waqar Plunkett and Sajid Ambrose that proved taking early wickets with the new ball in ODI cricket is so so important.

Hopefully us and Australia beat NZ and we both get to play in the finals! I know its a long shot but it is impossible not to dream at this stage- if we could win the VB series then it would be great for ODI cricket in this country and we could salvage something from an otherwise awful tour.

For Gawds' sake, Whippy, give up this optimistic facade! We were alright though, today. Really impressed with Plunkett - never seen him bowl with such a nice shape into the lefties and away from the righties until today.

Plunkett's spell today reminded me of a performance of his at Edgbaston against Sri Lanka last summer - good pace, excellent direction right from the off.

we've beaten both Australia and New Zealand in this competition now, so why not again? Either way, Fletcher gets sacked by May so it's all good.

Plunkett does look a lot fitter compared to last winter. Seems to have his action back to where it was before that awful ODI series against Sri Lanka as well.

Decent effort from England, though I daresay that if they hadn't decided to put Symmo on ice we might've given the total a bit of a shake.
