What's new

Australia v Pakistan | 1st Test | Brisbane | Dec 15-19, 2016 | Day 2

This is difference between our tailenders and their tailenders. They at least put a price tag on their wicket.

Infuriating bowling to the left hander. He's a bloody tailender!! As I say this he gets another easy single

Imagine if we had Smith at 40-odd and Handscomb had been attacked with a fuller length first up. No worries, let's keep it up. With some luck going out way, we can definitely make 400 on this pitch.

What's done is done.. need to finish this innings asap

Renshaw is the only debutant who seems like a long-term player for Australia. The guy's leaving was impeccable against Amir. He knows very well where his off-stump is. Has all the shots in the book.

Handscomb has got an owl eyes and lightning hands

a fifty and a hundred way to go lad great start to the carrier

Pathetic. Bowls the LAST ball of the session in the right area. Misbah what are you thinking? Anyway it's a good fight back. Need to get them all out below 400

:))

We struggled to put on 200 vs less talented Kiwis attack. We have a 1 dimensional batting line up outside of Azam & Sarf. YK looks out of it after his double in England.

Like I said.
Handscomb is the next best thing... the guy has the mental strength to score runsand make every outing count.

Misbah never believed that Aussies could be bundled below 300. Not his fault - every batting captain will think like that.

That was a greentop.

This is a good batting pitch with zero demons in it.

I'm expecting Asad, Azhar, Sami and Babar to click.

Handscomb is much better. He's going to be an all formats player.

Difference in pitches is not something you are factoring into the equation?

How much can we score here?

Is anyone else feeling guilty about fantasizing a Hazlewood injury here?

We will score all of the runs.

How would Sarfaraz think??

Better - but he has so many other things to think - he is the only cricketer among 22 in match who needs concentration on every ball as long as he is in field; he is only man among 13 on field who is doing a thankless job - take a blinder, people'll say, regulation as he has gloves - touch a difficult one - peopke'll say dropped. Besides, he has to manage his batting, his fitness for a job that needs at least 540 times a day to bend down & stand up; he needs to adjust his slips according to the pace of the wicket; needs to adjust the angle of distant fielders ....

There is a reason that from Strurwick to Doujon to Knott to Kirmani to Boucher to Howell to Tsllon to Marsh to Evans - never was made Captain.

PCB is dumb & stupid - so made both Latif & Moin Captain as part of merry go round - then Moin played as batsman & Latif as WK; later Latif as WK & Moin as Captain. If I were in charge, I won't have made Sarfu even FC or U19 captain - bad investment.

So are MS Dhoni and Gilchrist an anomaly?

Waqar describing the UAE tactics as "Misbah's strategy", even more evidence that Waqa didn't contribute all that much to the test team when it came to on field tactics.

Difference in pitches is not something you are factoring into the equation?

Even when the pitch wasn't playing tricks we were blocking everything into oblivion which predictably led to our demise in both matches.

Another one :out

Handscomb chopped on !!

Aus 9/380

Wahab and Amir both have 4 fers now !!

And Handscomb is finally bowled off the umpteenth inside edge.

He was lucky all day yesterday with those edges.

I guess we've finally found our 1st slip in Shafiq. He used to be at gully previously.

Amir making up for some recent bad luck by getting wickets off ordinary deliveries today.

Australia just handing him wickets, such poor batting by Starc and Hazel in particularly.

I think Amir has been average and actually bowled better yesterday, just got lucky they gifted him wickets off nothing balls.
No wickets have come from sheer brilliance of amir.

Seeing as we're all moaning about Misbah's captaincy, here's a little nugget from the England-India game:

Aakash has this: 40 runs in 20 overs but no bat-pad for Root. There's a fielder at long-off and a fielder manning the deep covers. Modern day captaincy is at play.

I guess Kohli is a cowardly and defensive captain too?

True, Shane was a master at that - he made life measurable for Lara who played Murali & Saq better against all logic.

But, do you think this field set up explains that tactics?

It is always easier to play the ball turning in than the one that goes away. But when you face a bowler that turns into you, you have to constantly play a shot and if you don't pick the slightest variations you are a goner. So basically Yasir is still attacking.

Predicition:

So we'll be batting in the twilight when the ball is relatively new

Pakistan will lose a bunch of wickets and would have lost them anyway regardless of time

But our man Junaids will use it as evidence of the ball doing magic under lights and how Misbah and Pak messed it up

who said Kohli is some ATG captain lmao. hes barely been captain more than a year

This match will be drawn i think.

Yeah that shot is flick into the on-side for one

Only watched 3-4 overs of Shah. Need to watch it from the beginning to see why they went with this tactic and why other plans didn't work if there was one.

So you're saying that Pakistan shouldn't declare at 80/3 so they can bowl at Australia under the lights?

Warne has big problems with it

No wickets have come from sheer brilliance of amir.

Sheer brilliance seems a bit hyperbolic to describe a merely decent Test bowler who averages 32 & couldn't even perform on green wickets in NZ, but don't let me stop you thinking he's of sheer brilliance.

he is going to make mistakes and miscalculations as well.

so those cannot be used to make misbahs mistakes go away

The point is that these are not mistakes, this is how cricket is played in the 21st century.

that would be awesome for us

i doubt it though

too many runs and it just 5th session

The pitch looks flat but yasir had just started to turn it a little. I think australia's second innings will be crucial.

I think Amir has been average and actually bowled better yesterday, just got lucky they gifted him wickets off nothing balls.

hopefully he realized now that he needs to keep his pace up so he can even get wickets when he is not at his best the reason he has a 4 fer here is he is constantly around 140 his accuracy means he will always be in the hunt as long as he is hurrying the batsman

The pitch has quickened up significantly alright, looks much tougher today.

so if enough people make a mistake then its no longer one :))

No, the people moaning about negative tactics are making a mistake even though there are plenty of you out there.

4 catches dropped by Sami off Amir in NZ but lets blame Amir. Context please.

Watch the deliveries bowled before the dismissals. Classic tail-ender set-up. Soften them up by bowling into their body, give them a loose delivery outside off to flash away and get the edge.

Not working with Jackson Bird though. Better defensive technique than a lot of the other Aussie batters.
