It wd say 2 full days of rain cd very well save it for us but then we last 9 wickets in one session in last test and 7 wickets in one session in thus test. With us you nvr know.

I think, PAK will bat much better in 2nd time - this is lack of preparation & not looking at the characteristics of Gabba track carefully; which is to my surprise, because Arthur is based in Perth. Traditionally, Gabba track is fastest on Day 2, particularly last 2 sessions of the day, if there is good sun for previous 4 sessions. I have noticed many, many FC matches, where teams have ended Day 2 at 105/6 after conceding 400+. I won't be surprised if PAK reaches 300 on 2nd bite.
 
Warne says Yasir is the best spin bowler in the world right now, but he's disappointed in his approach in the first over

I read it somewhere that, Jackson, technically was better than Stan McCabe, but he didn't have the run hunger like Brandman. Also, he suffered from tuberculosis probably from his teen, which was identified at later stage, when it wasn't possible to cure.

Cdnt agree more with u but this is a day night test match we are talking about where the whole scenario changes when artifical lights take effect. If it was a day test match we wd hv fared far better in this test. A day night test match is a bit of a lottery where toss plays an extremely important role. You win the toss, play ur best cricket in the first innings and u r almost guaranteed a win if u are a batting team. Its so hard to make a come back in a day night test match.
 
Just watching the cricket on the other side of the continent, there is a gulf in the quality of cricket being played in these two test series.

At least if they bat well , they will get some confidence.
 
How will England fare in Australia this time? I reckon with Johnson gone, England are favorites

I think, in every match there are patches where you have to bail it out. May be, in D/N Test it's tough to bat under light (which won't be the case in Asia for dew), but it's not easy to face quality new ball attack in a morning start, or face spinners on Day 4/5 - look what Indians are doing with much vaunted Pom tail. Test cricket is tough - more than anything, it's a test for your toughness & guts. Of the first 5 wickets yesterday, may be Azhar's one was genuine lack of technical skills, while YK doesn't see the ball much - but apart from that, Sami, Babar, Asad & to a certain extent Misbah was gifted wicket - did the hard work & then lost concentration. Sami was 6th out, which suggests had Babar not chased a wide one of 1st ball on Josh's return, it was possible to see out Starc & Josh's spell at may be 55/1 - after that, even Amir survived for 2 hours. Bating under light is tough, but not impossible - previous night AUS put 104/0, with one batsman on his 2nd Test.

PAK has to come out of UAE - otherwise, next time teams will beat them in UAE as well & PAK will be inferior tourist than BD/SRL.
 
Good boost for Sarfraz's average today with the not out. Hopefully he gets a good score in second innings aswell.

4-1, or may be 5-0 to the hosts - Test matches hardly ends in draw these days, even less in Aussie land. Last time, I lost it by little margin - thought Swan will win a Test at SCG, but he flew away before that.

Every team is HTB these days, but Aussies & Indians are brutal at home. AUS will not do the day dreaming with Kieth Miller, sorry Mitch Marsh - 6 batsmen + WK + Starc, Josh, Patinson/Cummins & a spinner/pacer. Against Pom spinners, you'll see the monsters out of Warner & Khwaja - add to that Shaun Marsh at 5; Smith is always good.

Just like Amir's been gifted all these recent wickets with nothing balls.

So Amir might get Smith with a poor ball.

Just for my curiosity - in PAK, is it considered as a shame if the bowler is driven past the bowler?

I mean, PAK pacers are happy to bowl short against these predominantly back-footed Aussie batsmen & being spanked by pull or cut, but I have hardly seen them make the batsmen drive on front foot. May be, people boos the bowlers if they are driven, but cheers if a short one goes past nose..............

Every bowler gets catches dropped off them in their careers, but not ever bowling gets wickets with short ordinary deliveries as Amir has in this game, they've been gifted.

Rahat needs to be brought back purely for entertainment purposes.
 
Don't understand Misbah's logic - when Virat goes defensive, there is no 2nd thought about it, he'll plug sweeper cover, mid wicket, 3rd man & fine leg -sometimes long on/off as well. Here Misbah's bowlers are bowling short of length, he has taken out 2 slips but hasn't put anyone in 3rd man.
 
The thing with Smith is that even though he scores a truckload of runs everytime he comes in to bat, he always looks like giving chances unlike Kohli or Root who look more calm and assured at the crease.

Still he ends up scoring runs and that is what matters at the end.

Smith is such an ugly batsman. But its the runs that matter.

He is one of the best ever hand-eye coordinated batsman, like Sehwag. At this age, he is at his prime, but I doubt his durability - he'll fade away much earlier than other 3 once his eye, reflex & coordination crosses 30/31. Viv Richards was something like this - averaged just about 44 in 80s, after over 65 before he reached 30 & that excludes his stats against WSC bowlers.
 
Pakistan should ask Smith if he can bat left-handed to give them a chance.
 
I honestly believe that Bangladesh would have competed better here. This Pakistani side seems ridiculously poor.

Dhiraz rakhho syaan - Aussies have got a little beating from SAF with their "fantasy" team having Kieth Miller (potential wise) & Bradman (average wise) in playing XI; but at Gabba, they are totally different beast. That too after winning toss in D/N & PAK playing one preparatory FC against novices.

I can tell you, not many contemporary team will have a better show than this in that context.

Agreed it's not impossible to survive the challenge that the new pink ball poses under artifical light but with our batsman you are 99.99% sure that they wd fall like a pack of cards when the going gets tough. We had to win this toss and bat first and score around 300 to threaten Australia. When we lost the toss I believe 30 % game was lost there and we were always playing a catch up from that time onwards. The chances we let go beffing didnt help either and we let Australia score 170-180 runs more.
 
What's the point of such a defensive field??

In this sort of situation the best thing to do is attack.
