Should not have been recalled when he was so badly out of form. Selectors seem intent on ignoring all the rules about selection.

Rule number 1 - Don't recall player who is out of form.

We are going down 2 nil.

I think McGrath's prediction - 3-nil is gonna come true :moyo

Class act in Test? lol . He has so many weakness especially outside the off stump.

Should be dropped but amusingly still has a higher Test average than the great Ganguly. Has averaged more than 60 in the past 2 years, so yeah he can bat a bit.

Steyn needs one more wicket for 150 Test wickets from 29 matches.

Shouldn't they go for David Hussey?

Hussey is pretty poor on the international stage. Kinda like Hick.

Dude.. you complain about us bringing INdian player names into discussion! Now you are the one doing it :)). Who approved ganguly's inclusion? I didn't. He came through back door.

:yk

Yea, but Symonds is class. He kinda replaced Gilchrist as the player who can turn the game in a session.
Steyn is really fired up, definite man of the match.

International stage? He has played just 5 ODIs. That's it. Not played any Tests.

SA easily #1 test side now. I think they deserve it after years of CHOKING

Just wonder where the great Ganguly rates if you think Symonds is no good at Test level.....

Okay anyway.. i don't know much about David Hussey. But i have heard from Aussie fans in other places that he is the real deal.

After the hype he was generating on the domestic scene, his five ODI's werent that convincing. He didnt look good in the IPL either.

Okay If India picks a junk player i won't say.. "look Bangladesh is picking Ashraful..why not Ganguly". We are talking about your team. Don't drag who is picked for Iceland team!

:))) Those english skills rival :inzi

They have 3 in the slip cordon, one backward point and gully. Looks like West Indies field set up in the 80s.

Nice attempt to avoid the question. You are the one saying Symonds is no good - so I ask about a player with a lesser average by way of comparison.

86 ahead, 5 wickets in hand.

I still maintain symonds is junk something which i said when he was first selected. He just proved against quality pace bowling. He has far too many weaknesses especially outside the off stump.

You can call Ganguly a junk Test player :). I have no problem with that!

From Cricindia:

""Hang on everyone, Australia hasn't lost this yet! Sure it doesn't look great, but Ponting's on song, Haddin's in great form, and we all know how capable the aussie tail is. I could easily see them batting out the rest of today and some of tomorrow, setting up another fascinating 4th innings chase," says Ben."

Ben is an optimist. :romeo

Best way for Australia to go about is play aggressively and push Smith on the defensive. If they are going to poke and prod eventually Steyn will slip one jaffer.

Last time when Punter scored two centuries in a Test , it was against SA and Australia won that. This time around result might be different.

How about that Klinger guy. He seems to be awesome this year scoring 900 plus runs at an avge of 90 head and shoulders above anyone else.

No chance. First class average of about 35.

Probably he came of age last season. 2008 season seems impressive. But statistics tell only half the truth. Hope selectors know what they are doing.

Is 28 and has never shown any signs before this season of even being a quality domestic batsman.

But no the Aus selectors do not know what they are doing. So it's a bit of a lottery at the moment.

Where is that dogged Australian spirit? Do they still have it or South Africa is too awesome for Australia.

This comment on Cricindia gets my vote for dumbest:

Ron: "The general media view of Australia's decline is due the previous greats retiring which is not the case. I feel South Africa, India and England have elevated their game in the last three years and they are being consistent now."

No has nothing to do with losing Warne, Gilly, McGrath etc.....what a gadha

109 ahead.

What kind of injury Brett lee was carrying?

Has a stress fracture or hot spot in his foot. Apparently he will bowl though because breaking the foot actually helps it heal quicker.

Lee wouldn't want to miss the SA series since they probably have the most bowler friendly pitches in the world.

Australia knew how to win Test matches better than anyone else. But they are not exactly smartest when it comes to drawing Test matches. I remember Steve Waugh saying similar to this in 2004 when Australia lost at Adelaide.

That depends. They also have some of the flattest tracks. They reserve pace tracks for Subcontinent teams.

No draws thank you, win or lose!

Ah Brett Lee....

115 ahead, 3 wickets in hand

Nothing better than waking up around 6am and the Aussies are just over 100 runs ahead. With so many wickets down. :)))

Other than centurian all other pitches generally have sideways movement and good bounce but the boundries are quite small and outfields are lightning fast.

::J How about trying to prepare a pitch for a good game of cricket?

Only England does that. Every other country is culpable at one time or the other.

Say what? :inzi

There are 2 countries who deliberately do it. All the other cricket playing countries moved beyond that a while ago.

Hi Romalitron!

I don't know whats worse Australia failing to defend 414 on the final day and half in Perth or Australia continually treating their cricket team as a boys club. Playing a test with three players who shouldn't been in their is a disgrace, and these Aussie selectors should cop the wrath of the Australian public and Media.

Dumbest comment of the year for sure, but lets play his game and say these teams have improved, what the hell has England shown in tests in the last year. A series lost to India, SA, beating a poor NZ and getting thrashed in Sri Lanka. What the hell has England done?

Have a feeling Ron just might be English

you have to take your hat off to ponting, now possibly the greatest batsman since lara.

Punter is on his way to 3rd double if i am right. He will equal Sunny Gavaskar.

No it will be his fourth if he makes it, is currently equal with Gavaskar.

Edit - well he didn't
