Sri Lanka face Australia in a must win game for them, especially if they still harbour any hopes of making the CB Finals instead of India.

On another front Hayden and Ponting may have a point or two to prove to the IPL selectors about how good they can be in limited over cricket.

This has all the ingredients needed for an exciting match and if Sangakkara's team mates rally around him with the bat then Australia's recent poor form may be their undoing!

Symonds will play his first match for Australia as a Super Star today. Ponting will be playing out shear vengeance and frustration.

Gilchrist bowled off Vaas
Aus 12-1 after 4.4

:))) :)))

Murali into the attack

just noticed that sri lanka possibly have 6 specialist bowlers in their playing 11 which doesn't include jasuriya and dilshan. pretty strange.

Very tight bowling by the Lankans.

Aussies this series have struggled to maintain the standards of Aussies !!

71/4 in 27.1 overs

Hussey and Clarke rescuing Australia again... wonder what has happened to Ponting?

We are starting to suck pretty badly at ODI batting.

Ponting and Symonds have been in the news a lot, been saying a lot but not making any $%&^%& runs.

Yes - Test batting is not cause for concern yet, India bowled well in the last 3 Tests of the summer.

And everyone knows we can't play swing

scary thing is that even with the batsmen in such poor form the Aussie are still winning matches and that too by a big margin :12:

The Aussie bowling and fielding has been magnificent so far, but Jayawardedne and Sanga hanging in there.

28 for 2

THeir bowlers are covering up big time for them! I wonder if lanka and india bat carefully there is no way aussies can beat them

Jayawardene gone. Hige blow for the Lankans

42 for 3

btw dont know if any of you saw Koertzen give out the SL opener LBW. Shocking decision, hit the guys bat and it was going well over - other than that it was plumb.

Jayawardene gone c.Gilchrist b.Bracken 2nd ball after drinks break.

Peter Roebuck on ABC Grandstand radio: "The best bowler in the world is drinks break. Gets a wicket almost everytime." Haha.

S.L 58/3

silva and sanga re-building inns here..

Very lucky our bowlers have been good. Could easily have lost every game so far.

Belief in yourself and your team is a massive thing, at the moment the team still has it due to years of dominance but if it starts to falter....

Like the WI on their slide, most of the greats were gone but they kept winning because they expected to. As soon as Australia beat them at home they fell apart and have been no good ever since.

Sangakarra gone goes for pull and mis-hits it into the covers and symonds takes catch.

hopes strikes.

PP, dont worry all aussie batsmen/bowlers will be given back their form in pakistan, thats the usual hospitality from pakistan to all hosts!

Sr lankas last frontline batters at the crease.

Brad Hogg to continue.. Sri lanka need to milk him for 5-6 an over..

edge and just drops infront of hayden.

silva survives.

now a stumping chance missed by gilly!

dilshan survives!

Both batsmen struggling to pick Brad hogg here... hes not that hard 2 play against ffs!

Sri lanka 77/4 after 29 overs and they have gone off for rain

AUSSIEs ahead on D/L

Weather radar shows lots more rain coming in from west of the city. I think that's it.

This might be the sad end to a horrible match for batsmen :( .

Yes, Australia wins by 24 runs and also pick up a bonus point, to reach the finals!

The pitch was basically slow death for the batsmen. Total of only 11 boundaries for the whole match. The only batsmen to do well (Clarke and Hussey) did so by running lots of quick singles. Sanga's figures say it all really - he's been in great touch but ended today with 22 runs off 59 balls and no boundary.

Jayasurya scoring a golden duck for his million dollars!!!!! Bravo!

Symo another Million $ M :p

Sri Lankans are looking terribly out of form and pathetic in batting

Australia through as expected and its a straigh shoot out between sri lanka and india for other spot.

I recon india will get through to finals as sri lanka just look woeful in all departments.
