Azhar Ali (73), F Zaman (71) & Usman Salahuddin star on Day 1 of 2-day game against Leicestershire
This weekend represents a fantastic opportunity for some of the younger members of the Leicestershire CCC squad to pit their wits against some stars of the international game.
Pakistan visit the Fischer County Ground for the two-day tourist match sponsored by Regal Bakery fresh from a five-wicket test match victory over Ireland.
The game could see six graduates of Leicestershire CCC's flourishing Academy on show, including Lewis Hill, who will captain the side for the first time.
Young batsman Sam Evans is included in the squad as the weekend fixture does not clash with his studies at Loughborough University.
Tom Wells and Harry Swindells come into the game on the back of posting terrific hundreds for the Second XI in the Trophy match against MCC Young Cricketers at Lutterworth CC yesterday.
All-rounder Zak Chappell is in line for his first red ball appearance of the season after making a comeback from injury against Northants Steelbacks, while Aadil Ali and current Academy all-rounder Ben Mike are also in the 12.
Richard Jones is back having completed a successful comeback from injury for the Second XI yesterday, taking three of the four wickets to fall.
Leicestershire CCC Second XI Coach Tom Smith is taking the side and is looking forward to a good test of skills against an international team.
He said: “This represents a really exciting fixture for the group. As a bowler you will immediately put yourself in the mix if you take wickets against test match batsmen and, as a batsman, runs against international bowlers is only going to benefit your confidence.”
The fixture is final preparation for the Pakistan squad before their test series against England. The Ireland game saw Leicestershire CCC overseas bowler Muhammad Abbas pick up nine wickets in the match: four in the first innings and five in the second.
Abbas’ success came as no surprise to Head Coach Paul Nixon. “We know how much quality Mo [Muhammad Abbas] possesses and the skill he can bowl with,” said Nixon.
“It’ll be great to see Mo back at the Fischer County Ground and to catch up with him before he returns in the middle of June after the test series.”
The format of the fixture is two innings per side with the side batting first in the first innings allowed to face a maximum of 100 overs of bowling. The hours of play are 11:00 until 18:00 with lunch taken at 13:00 and tea at 15:40.
Leicestershire CCC (from 12): Hill (capt), Aadil, Chappell, Dearden, Evans, Javid, Jones, Klein, Mike, Swindells (wk), Taylor, Well
