Bangladesh (565 & 30/0) secure a historic Test win by 10 wickets against Pakistan (448/6d & 146) in the 1st Test match and lead the 2-match series 1-0

Stumps for Day 2.

Pakistan - 448/6 dec.
BD - 27/0 (12 overs).

BD are trailing by 421 runs.

Nice to see Khurram bowling in the mid to high 130s and clocking at 140+ clicks. His pace was in the 120's during Australia so clearly he was playing through the injury but nice to see he's made a full recovery. Has a chance at a decent Test career if he can maintain that pace.

Different bowlers, maybe they are more suited. I was expecting some fire from NS and SSA, what we saw was just plain boring
That was disappointing bowling by NS and SSA with the new ball. Probably not in the groove so I will give them benefit of the doubt for the first time.

Still Khurram and Ali are more than capable bowlers to pick wickets in the middle overs.

He's a rhythm bowler I think. When he gets going it's beautiful to watch. He was the highest wicket taker in FC season before he was picked for the Australia tour. Was troubling a lot of batters with his line, length, movement and angles. Action also kind of reminds me of Steyn.

SSA was also poor in Australia and needs to be dropped, the kicking up the backside will help him to get back and firing.

Bangladesh doing Bangladeshi things being sucky, poor as usual.

Expect an innings defeat for the Bengali pusssy kittens

Naseem also needs to around the 87-90mph, not 84. If he can't get that pace and his skill levels obviously aren't anything great on flat tracks, where do we go. The only thing I would add is that he didn't bowl to a right handed bats and maybe his style suits bowling to them.

Both BD openers are lefties. That negates Shaheen (who is generally ordinary against lefties and much better against right-handed batters).

Pakistan Pacers has not found right length today if they want to take 20 wickets then they need to bowl more fuller amd closed to stumps .

Shaheen is not the same bowler he used to be , don't know what is happened to him post injury

Pitch looks great for batting. If BD can bat day 3 well losing max 4 wickets going into 4th day! then it will be a draw!

3 days to take 20 wickets on this pitch

Even Australia couldn’t get 20 Pakistani wickets on here

Only England can beat us on these with Wood bouncers and short pitch stuff. Absolute disgraceful wickets.

Rizwan and Saud rule the roost in Rawalpindi

A 240-run fifth wicket partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel put Pakistan in a dominating position against Bangladesh in the first Test at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Rizwan, who resumed second day’s play at 24 in Pakistan’s 158 for four, returned unbeaten on a career-best 171, while Saud, who started the proceedings at 57, was dismissed after scoring 141 as Pakistan declared their first innings at 448 for six. When play ended an on extended day, Bangladesh were 27 for no loss in 12 overs.

It was a third century each for Rizwan (31st Test) and Saud (11th Test) as the two batters sent the Bangladesh bowlers on a leather chase on a wicket that continued to assist the fast bowlers. For Rizwan, whose previous best was against South Africa, it was a second century at this venue, while the third was in Karachi against Australia.

For Saud, it was his first century at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium after his previous two were in Karachi (125 not out) and Galle (208 not out).

Rizwan’s 239-ball knock was punctuated with 11 fours and three sixes and Saud struck nine fours in a 261-ball innings. Rizwan was dropped twice during his innings, while Saud survived a close run-out before being stumped off Mehidy Hasan Miraz that gave wicket-keeper Litton Das his third scalp of the innings.

After the 240-run fifth wicket partnership that ended with Saud’s dismissal, Rizwan put on 44 runs for the sixth wicket with Salman Ali Agha (19) and an unbroken 50 runs for the seventh wicket with Shaheen Shah Afridi, whose 24-ball 29 not out included a four and two sixes.

Neither Hasan Mahmud nor Shoriful Islam managed to picked up any wickets on the second day in which Pakistan scored 290 runs in 72 overs and finished with two for 70 and two for 77, respectively.

Scores in brief (day 2 of 5):

Pakistan (1st innings) 448-6d (Mohammad Rizwan 171 not out, Saud Shakeel 141, Saim Ayub 56, Shaheen Shah Afridi 29 not out; Hasan Mahmud 2-70, Shoriful Islam 2-77)

Bangladesh (1st innings) 27-0

Saud Shakeel at the presser today after end of Day 2 proceedings:

"I think the Bangladesh bowlers were a bit short in length, which they could have done better. Yesterday, I went for the attack and today was different. We wanted to go for a partnership."

"We had an idea that it will be hot this month. As professionals, we are prepared for such situations."

"The Shaheens game was really important for me. I hadn't played any red ball game in 5-6 months."

"You can only get satisfied after you retire. As long as you are playing international cricket, you look to improve with every single game."

"It is a matter of great honor for me to be the vice captain of the side. Coming on to pitch question, obviously it was a batting friendly pitch that is why we amassed 400 plus runs."

"I didn't play slow deliberatly. I just play according to the conditions. If you had followed the match, you would have observed that outfield was slow at particular patches. And that was the reason that many shots that would have gone for 4 or boundary ended up in double or three runs for us. And this thing (slow outfield) also keeps the bowlers from getting underpressure because of regular boundaries."

Pakistan fast bowlers have been 4 over specialist of late. They should.have.played Abrar. If one guy breaks down it will increase the load on others and second breakdown may very well happen.

One of the best comeback by Pakistan team after losing key wickets on a tough Day 1 track.

After a long layoff from tests the bowlers need some mileage in their legs to get going and find rhythm.

Once Pakistan grab a few wickets the flood gates will open.
Or maybe just play regular red ball cricket and lesser T20 leagues.
Naseem Shah has not played red ball cricket for over a year.

That is seriously pathetic!

We only play 8 to 9 Tests a year so its not a realistic expectation.

The PCB has restricted players to two T20 leagues a season.

Naseem has been injured as have a lot of the bowlers.

The incompetent medical panel need to be held to account.

I don't know if Bangladesh has the ability to knuckle down and play attritional cricket. They will find ways to get themselves out.

Pakistan may have had a strong second day in the first Test against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi but visitors' batting coach David Hemp feels that it is too early to give the 'favourites' tag to the hosts, he said:

"It is always a challenge to bat for a limited time in the back end of the day and after being in the field for five hours. We are really pleased not to lose wickets, but more importantly their approach. They are still trying to capitalise on scoring options. I also felt that they made good judgement at leaving the ball,"

"There's still a lot of cricket to be played. If we can bat the whole day tomorrow then we'll see where we are at,"

"[Pakistan] have four good seamers and a reasonable spinner. They have bowling options. They are a good attack. It is going to be a challenge. The priority is to bat the day. We have to negotiate each session, and then see where we are,"

"From what we are seeing in the preparation period, they have all been striking the ball well and getting into good positions,"

"They are all confident that they can contribute to the team. We have depth in the batting order with Litton at seven and Mehidy at eight,"

"The mantra in the team is for everyone to be able to contribute. Everyone is expected to bat as much as possible. For us internally, we look at contributions from the lower order. We are more interested in balls faced than runs from No 9, 10 and 11. During the New Zealand series at home last year, the last four batters averaged 33 to 34 balls per innings. That's 120 balls, which kept New Zealand in the field for 20 extra overs. It had a massive impact on the game. For us it is a really important factor,"

Day 3 is about to start in an hour's time.

Pakistan should be getting 3-4 wickets before lunch but this is not going to be easy. The wicket has eased out a bit.

Early strike for Naseem. Superb bowling from him earned him that wicket.

Shaheen has wasted the new ball from one end. I am sure Khurram would have picked at least 1 wicket had he bowled 6-7 overs

One of the reasons why top order fails is inconsistency and Bangladesh has used 16 different pairs in just 29 matches.

Classic disciplined test match bowling by Naseem and I am certain this is the Jason Gillespie effect, 4 deliveries are on the classic off stump short of a length channel, same spot where the batter has no choice but to play, one ball is fully pitched up to induce a drive to bring slips into play and one ball is short on the ribs, face to keep the batsman back. Classic test match stuff.

100 deliveries since last time bangladesh hit a 4. Fantastic from Pakistan

It's not a reason at all based on that . Australia , India and England have tried plenty of pairs and they are the Top 3 test sides.

Bangladesh's issues stem from lack of talent/quality.

Not following cricket as I used to but I just watched the scorecard and couldn't see any specialist spinner in there? Is this true? How can you play in the SC heat without a proper spinner? I know Agha and Saud can bowl but at the end of the day they are only part-timers.

What a pathetic team Bangladesh is. They're letting the pacers settle in so easily lol
Only Bangladesh has the capacity to lose on this dead highway against Pakistan

T20 Cricket has ruined Shaheen. He now goes searching for glory balls everytime without working on setting up the batter. He needs to learn from Naseem Shah ie putting 4-5 deliveries on the same spot

Hopefully Gillespie and Kristen will get rid of Babar and Shaheen from al formats of cricket. 2 most over-hyped and useless players.

He was never that good to start with!!! He always used to get few wickets with new ball when condition suits otherwise he was always a nothing bowler.

If Bangladesh manage to save the follow on here, their chances of escaping with a draw will be much higher.

BD bat till Lunch on Day 4 followed by after which Pakistan will bat for 2 sessions atleast.

That leaves BD to survive 3 sessions in the final innings.

Bangladesh tour of Pakistan 2024-25 (1st Test)

Lunch (day 3) at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi

Bangladesh: 134-2 (48 ov)

Pakistan: 448-6 dec (113 ov)

Bangladesh trail by 314 runs

Bangladesh trudging on at 2.7 an over and looking set to carry on in such fashion.

Dead pitches, no crowd and then we wonder why Pakistan cricket is dying a slow death.

Should have batted hard

Stokes showed the way. You want a result, you do what it takes to get one!
