Its been 9 years now since Bangladesh was given test status and what irritates me most is that they havn't improved. They simply don't learn from their mistakes. They are standing on that same place compare to nine years ago. I don't know how long it will take for them to become a force in world cricket.

Forget being a force, they simply need some consistancy to become competative.

Surprisingly good performance by Bangladesh.
Stumps, 254/5.
Ashraful has played an excellent captain's knock

Bangladesh have played well. Hats off to both the batsmen. Good partnership going here. Let's see if they can chase down this mammoth target of 500+ and set a new record :P

It´s quite possible. huge targets have been knocked off this year:P.

Usually last Test of the year and fast test of the year always happens in Australia. Now for a change this test is going to be the last test of the year.

its going to take a while. without any real FC experience. the pace of int'l cricket means that over the past 2-3 years our players have played maybe 10-15 FC matches in 3 years.

they don't play FC outside of Tests, and so their learning occurs there only.

the potential is there as evidenced by this match and others every now and then. the shots that tamim iqbal played, ashraful's domination of murali, not just today but career wise, indicate ability. but something is wrong within the BD system.

fixing that will likely take 10-20 years. its also a matter of luck. luck gives you legendary cricketers. you can make good or even great players, but only the luck of genetic recombination will give you legends.

what is interesting is that the batsman continue to gift their wicket away due to lack of concentration and simple lack of mental stamina. each batsman got starts in both innings, yet this test has yielded just one 50 (hopefully sakib and rahim join to make it 3).

this year, tamim, junaid, mehrab, and rahim have all gone past the 70 run mark at least once, yet no one got a ton. lack of focus. if you are good enough to score 70, you can score 100 and more. but you have to maintain that focus.

Rakibul Hassan says "If Ashraful can bat till tea then Bangladesh will certainly make history of chasing 521 "

Its premature to talk of a BD win right now. 2 wickets and the tail is exposed. Let BD take it a session at a time. That being said with BD, you dont even know if they can last a session.

Gone after scoring his century. Well played and score most of his runs off Murali. Still job not done.

He looked a totally different player, much more calm and composed. Hopefully he can continue this on to future matches and carry the Bangladeshi middle order.

:O Bangladesh can win this. 148 runs needed with 4 wickets in hand and 2 set batsmen at the crease. Plenty of overs left.

Mahela will have lost all his reputation should BD go on to win or even draw. With someone like Murali and Vaas Mahela is struggling to finish the job.

138 to win.

I'm flabbergasted that there's actually a possibility Bangladesh can chase 520 in the 4th innings. What's going on?!?!?!

BD need a required run rate of 2.4 runs per over so they can hopefully do it but these two should stick for atleast 102 runs more in order for BD to win. InshAllah BD will win this match

who said SL is a good test team
Bangladesh scored 400 of them in 4th innings

If BD chase down the target then it would be a record for high chase in a test as it would be shame on big teams that BD achieved that record. Sheikh bhai how are you InshAllah BD will win!

ANother 4 by Shakib which makes him to move at 95. InshAllah he will get his madien century InshAllah

Wow...look at the tigers go !

I've for one noted their recent improved performances and it's only a matter of time before they start causing major upsets and playign consistantly.

now it's looks hard to win for Bangladesh... but they deserve respect for this incredible chase they've put together...

SL on top...but they should try and get the remaining 3 wickets ASAP. Mushfiqur is still at the crease and looking good

I really feel bad for Shakib falling at 96 he really deserved a century. TO be honest I didnt feel bad at all for Pointing falling at 99 but for Shakib I am really sorry. Btw that is his test best score now 96. Can Rahim and Mortaza stay on crease for 113?

pathetic... he's trying to sweep Murali in this pressure situation.. Mashrafe needs to know better...

OO almost bat pad now...

Rahim survives from cricinfo com.
Prasad to Mushfiqur Rahim, FOUR, fortune favours Rahim, Prasad gets that late reverse swing again and draws him on to the off drive, he fails to cover theb line and the ball sneaks past the stumps and the keeper

Was Ash crying when he got his century? loll

stunned would be a better word... you should have seen the bangladeshi dressing room.. there whole team was standing waiting for the century and then he gets out... they all had their hands on their heads .. quite a scene.

:))) :)))

oh no... gone... beauty of a ball... poor shot... he was expecting the reverse swing and it went straight on..

BD is gone now. WOrst thing about them is that when one wicket falls all of them fall

well it was always going to be tough, after that wicket only the tail was left. it doesnt matter, they have something to look back on and draw a huge amount of confidence from. 400+ in a 4th innings is remarkable

By Bangaldesh standard scoring 411 for 8 in 4th innings is a huge achievement. Sri Lankan bowling has been kept at bay for 125 overs. Impressive. They better include Mendis in every single match they play. They could have potentially lost an ODI to Zimbabwe but for Mendis.

413 all out. By any standards 400+ in the 4th innings is awesome. Take a bow Bangladesh Cricket Team. ( But dont stoop so low that you lose by an innings the next test match) :P

They just might! They never fail to amuse! :))

Mendis will be back in the next test match!

Knowing the BD history they are perfectly capable of doing that. After exhausting all their concentration left they will play like journey men in the next match. Seen enough. They have to start winning matches. This match was tremendously well fought by Bangladesh though.

great job by ash, tamim, mushfiw and shakib I said u thhis r the only batsman who can bat a lil bit and now they xshown it i would love it if shakib scored a century man just a great all rounder for the Bangladeshi side

Awww, if only Bangladesh could possess bowlers that West Bangladesh possess.

I really hate it when people call Pakistan West Bangladesh. It was NEVER Bangladesh. However, Bangladesh was once East Pakistan . :moyo Anyways, enough debate on that matter, SOLID performance from Bangladesh, I expected them to fold for under 100 :)

I don't think their bowlers have let them down in recent times. It was batting that sucked.

True. But in domestic cricket we are producing decent batsmen, but not many decent bowlers upcoming yet.

what a brave effort by bangladesh to score 400 in last inns is a brilliant achievement and for once they showed guts, heart and application. They should be proud despite their defest i just hope this is a sign of improvement. Finally once again we see a team finding batting easy on day 4/5 of a pitch.

Superb performance from Bangladesh. It's no coincidence that when Bangladesh wins matches, or comes close to winning matches, Ashraful is usually leading the way. Say what you want about his temperament, he has the potential to be a very good batsman. They way he played Murali was telling; he looked a class ahead of all the other batsman. Well done also to Shakib, he played well.

Keep it up Bangladesh - you haven't done too badly this year. Humble beginnings, but you will get there.

Shakib ul hasan is the best cricketer of the year for Bangladesh, by miles.
He had done extremely well as an allrounder too.important runs at really crucial moments against very good bowling attacks. many 5fers wicket hauls against the likes of SA, NZ and SL.Home and away too.performance wise, arguably the best Asian allrounder of the year -2008!

Bowling:
30 wickets, @ 25.77, 4 x 5fer, best of 7/36.

Batting:
400+ runs at 28+ with 96 as highest, 2 x 50's.

413 is the 11th highest 4th innings total of All-Time! It is better than Australia's best of 404, Sri Lanka's best of 410 and Pakistan's best of 341! And that too scored by a team with an average age of 21. Well played boys!
