Begum Kulsoom Nawaz wins NA-120 [Update Post #254]

People in Pakistan should not complain about how bad things are if they keep voting for these geniuses.

Democracy is a curse for countries like Pakistan with low literacy rate and a huge population living below poverty line. Majburyan, Compromises, Short term gains etc etc

I blame democracy when my party doesn't win. I hail democracy when it wins.

Respect for our Info Minister sahiba...

22 Federal minister, 17 Punjab ministers and 3 Kashmir minsters were with Maryam Nawaz in NA120 today...

PPP walon ko to ab doob he merna chahiye ya Punjab aana he chor daen... I mean not even at number 3?

Well done PTI and NA 120 awaam

They got more votes that 2013.

Historic result

Nooras must be wetting their pants now. Their vote bank has decreased by 30k in na 120

damn right to put the information minister on the floor who peddles the noora drivel on tv

that is the status of people who have no self respect and lick boots of others

In the UK the old SDP self disbanded after finishing behind the monster raving looney party in a by election back in the early 90s. Maybe its time for the PPP to do the same in Punjab.

PTI won many Polling Stations they lost back in 2013 that shows although slowly but still the mindset is changing...

Yea but i guess we are expecting too much from people like Zardari...

One thing to note is that turnout is generally lower in by-polls because in the end there is no major effect of these elections. I'd like to see voter turnout numbers.

However, a victory is a victory. Pakistanis have many miles to go before they can shed ghulaami mentality. But as they say jaisi quam waisay hukmaraan.

I am heart broken...I never thought that punjab has shifted this much to the right.

This is happening to PPP everywhere in Punjab not just Lahore by elections be it NA-122, NA-120, NA-63 etc. They thought they will bounce back after 2013 and that anger of people was just temporary...

Their last hope in Punjab is Seraiki area for 2018GE otherwise they are gone missing from North and Center of Punjab.

Unconfirmed final result:

PMLN: 59413
PTI: 46145

Back in 2013 the situation was:

PMLN 91,666
PTI, 52,321

Panic in PMLN camp was pretty clear from that video because they used all federal and provincial machinery to win back their home seat...

I have been saying for sometime that ppp need to fix the image problem by giving leadership role to aitizaz ahsan.
No one (except maybe kaira /affan chan) in punjab likes zardari.

The turnout is obviously lower but PTI got MORE votes this time than 2013

Interesting- stops the rubbish of Nooras being invincible. Billions spent, voter lists manipulated and the votes go down

IK has been used again ...
IMO, establishment now can make a better deal with NS for 2018.

Yes you know this :))

Did Raheel sharif call you and tell this or was it Shuja Pasha?

The only thing not being used is your brain going by your posts...

And based on this, PTI should be declared victorious.
Yes if you knew anything about politics you would know who would be happier with this result.

Even your own pml-n darbaris on Geo are wetting their pants

I think he didn't check that leaked video of maryam :yk

Its not understatement to say that GEO's survival is linked to the Nooras.

No one (except maybe kaira /affan chan) in punjab likes zardari.

PPP Punjab leadership wanted to cash Panama leaks and make a come back in Punjab but Zardari stopped them from doing it and now they are in a bigger hole they wasted a perfect opportunity to make a come back. PPP went into suicidal mode when they played friendly friendly with PMLN. Even Aitzaz can't save them now in Punjab and there are already differences between Kaira and Chan, one of them is president and another is sec general of ppp punjab. Chan was ready to fly and join PTI with his uncle Gondal but somehow Zardari managed to stop him.

Majority of People in Lahore, Karachi and interior Sindh have been voting for the same party in last 30 years. People of KP tried 5 different parties during this same time period.

I was not asking a question but I am feeling better that we are on same wave length.
Now, Judges need to disqualify the #1 candidate and order ECP to make #2 the well deserved winner.
(I believe PTI already challenging this election, I pray that pti win their challenge, so that we can have a better democratic process which does not rely on ballot.)

I made a prediction about KPK election 2018 in some other thread..
excluding Fata, pti to win only 6 seats ( retaining 5 and winning one new), it's extremely hard to win two consecutive elections in KPK and IK will know soon enough.

Black Zero how come you like Nawaz Sharif so much did he give your village free roti and gas for a month ?

In my view PTI can manage to win it if they don't give ticket to same winning candidates on most of the seats again. KP people focus more on different faces thn different party. But different faces mean grouping within the party that can really damage a party.

For the record:
- I hate NS
- Unfortunately, I do not have any village (though I have a desire to spend sometime in some isolated amazonian tribe)

Maryam is spending way too much time on explaining winning margin. Less of a victory speech, more like whining... :))

Well Done to PTI, made good gains in this election. PMLN took a hit and this is worrying considering this is their strong constituency.

Actually it's a very smart suggestion but I doubt if IK would understand it's relevance.

They can't even celebrate it lol because from tomorrow morning their case hearing again starts and NAB also summoned NS and Kids to appear on 19th. Poor nooras going through some really tough times :(

There is also a by election in NA-4 Peshawar next month because PTI sitting MNA died a couple of weeks ago so we will get a better picture from the results...

Oh, I was just wondering because that's what people say about him. You also come across as a big PMLN fan, have you always voted for them during your life time and what are your reasons

'I hate NS...But Im his biggest cheerleader'

why do all noora supporters say 'I dont support PML-N' :)) Why so embarassed?

would u like listen to my opinion about kpk??pti is going to win more seats thna the previous ones....i haveer seen kp peope praising government in the province except this time..

WebGuru partially agreed with ur suggestion but it is not about that all should be replaced but some of them should be......pti has got some ong candidates from constituences they loast las time..

PTI Mardan and PTI Swabi leadership need to be changed for a starter.

agreed,,,,and mardan will be very defficult to win..expecting them to snatch one mna seat from ji in lower dir even sirajul haq will be candidate there,,and one or two MPAs from lower dir..

I am against the role of establishment in the pakistani politics..and my stance is based on this simple principle.(and I used to come across (on PP) as big zardari fan in past.)

And after 2018 win, establishment would corner IK (and would use old and new actors against him )and I would most likely be posting in favor of IK, but it would not mean that I agree with IK's politics.

peshwar is all about pti,,no one can even give them close fight provided IK give ticket to a good candidate..

After the arrival of Noor Alam Khan (NA-3) PTI looks pretty strong in Peshawar and i expect them to win all 4 seats of Peshawar. PTI managed to win all 4 in 2012 but thn lost NA-1 to ANP's Bashir Bilor when Imran resigned from NA-1 to keep his Rawalpindi seat. PTI will need a very strong candidate for NA-1 in 2018

PTI Mardan is full of groupings and those MPAs/MNAs are already preparing to fly and land in ANP.

From today's result...

1. PML-N's vote-bank shrinking in its fort.
2. PTI has expanded its vote-bank in PML-N's fort.
3. PPP is now a Thatta to Sukkar party.

Let's wait for 2018 results...I think pti should win 6 seats.

PTI has worked on health and education, which is good, but election dynamics is a complex issue.

WebGuru Well I'm here xD

What is the your point here when you come here only for chest thumping after your sitting government wins with the narrowest of the margins

Better argue some thing in Panama case thread.

Khawaja Asif Iqama petition hearing in SC tomorrow as well as Kulsoom Nawaz nomination paper hearing.

Nawaz Sharif and family summoned by accountability court on 19th.

Let them celebrate tonight. :))

You have taken Faisal Meer's tally to your heart. :))

Actually they performed better this time i remember PPP candidate getting a grand total of 819 votes in NA-122 when Aleem Khan got 72,000 and Ayaz Sadiq got 74,000. The only difference is that even with 819 votes PPP still secured 3rd position!

I am disappointed about pppp's performance. But my prediction about KPK is few months old.

I think only ZAB was able to win KPK back to back.

When? From my memory Mufti Mehmood (JUI) and NAP (Wali Khan) had an alliance and Mufti was made CM of KP. Bhutto also lost the elections against Mufti in DI Khan. In next elections opposition parties boycotted.

I guessed..thanks for correction...
So if i am reading correctly, no one won back to back in KPK, right??

No party won back to back in KP with clear majority. But their were alliances to remain in govt even in next term...

Looking at the record, I guess no one is going to win KPK. That is going to be a thoroughly split mandate.

But i don't know much about KP WebGuru..... My popularity guess is PTI 30-35 % ANP 20-25 % N league 15 % JUI 15 %, rest JI, QWP others etc 15 %

We will have a better idea with some exit polls too.

I am expecting a grand alliance against PTI in KP 2018 elections. Or at least ANP+QWP+PPP and JUI+PMLN.

But seat-adjustment is going to be a difficult task for such an electoral alliance. Except establishment sanctioned MMA in KPK i don't see any successful electoral alliances in the recent past.

PMLN got a good vote bank in Hazara/Swat/Shangla and JUIF also enjoy some support there so i can see them supporting PMLN there. JUIF is strong in South of KP where PMLN enjoy less support so they can return the favor there. PTI dented JUIF vote bank in south so now JUIF need some alliance to win majority of the seats from there. JUIF+PMLN looks like a natural alliance to me in KP

In NA 4 all parties combined had a greater votebank than PTI in 2013 so an alliance against PTI is possible.

Arbabs got big vote bank in NA-4 and i heard PTI is going to give ticket to someone from Arbab family most chances are Arbab Waseem. PMLN candidate is also going to be from Arbab family (brother in law of Arbab Waseem)

So only around 30% voters interested to vote...
Both parties failed to get same number of votes (which is not unusual considering it's not a general election and both NS and SS stayed away from campaigning) that they got in 2013.

To me pppp ideological voters just stayed home, PTI vote bank increased by Max 5-10%...so I expect that in 2018, PTI would get 60k in na120 if they go with same candidate.

Bottom line, it's a safe and secured seat for pmln.

Most of PPP ideological voters are now PTI voters otherwise how you think PTI created their vote bank without any major increase in turnout when there were already 2 major parties in Punjab and Lahore? NA-120 isn't different from Larkana or Azizabad the forts of PPP and MQM.

Begum Kulsoom Nawaz wins NA-120: Unofficial results

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Begum Kulsoom Nawaz Sunday won NA-120 constituency by defeating Dr. Yasmeen Rashid of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in a tough by-election contest in Lahore.

The unofficial result of all polling stations shows that Kulsoom Nawaz has obtained 61572 votes while Yasmin Rashid secured 48381 votes.

In the constituency, 44 candidates, including 32 independent and 12 from different political parties were in the run.

Polling for by-elections in NA-120 Lahore held in mainly a peaceful manner; however, some sporadic incidents of clashes between political workers were also reported.

Under a pilot project, 100 biometric verification machines were used on trial basis in 39 out of 220 polling stations of the constituency.

There are 321,633 registered voters in NA-120.

The National Assembly seat was vacated by ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif following his disqualification in Panama Papers case.
