What's new

England [224/2] beat Australia [223] by 8 wickets to reach the final of the 2019 World Cup

So what if they aren't favourites .

How many times have England been favourites for ICC events ? Most of the time their team hasn't even been good enough to win it.

In 92 when they lost it was due to unbelievable bowling . Nothing to do with choking. From 96-2015 they just weren't good enough. The year they have the players they are in the final and should win it if they turn up.

Did you even watch the 1992 world cup? Gooch and Fairbrother played poor shots on nothing balls and both were well set batsmen.

You can’t say they lost to unbelievable bowling and did not choke the chase.

That was the reason they choked; the bowling was okay besides Wasim who was the most expensive bowler in the match (tied with Sohail). He wasn’t unplayable; England just took little precaution.

They were never THE favorites but have been favorited to win in the past and not done so.

75’, 79’, 87’, 92’, 17’.

England will win on Sunday and wont be chokers anymore.

A little bit of choking and some good bowling. Not every defeat is a choke that's my point.

Starc is now part of history book. 27 wickets in a single WC. He surpassed Glenn McGrath (26 wickets).

GOAT World Cup bowler has been reduced to Ashok Dinda by the choking Poms.

Roy was the missing piece. His return made England invincible again.
roy played vs Pakistan
Pakistan played unbelievable cricket to defeat full strength england (only side in this tournament to do so,)

And I’ll be happy to be proven wrong because English fans will finally take a deeper interest in cricket again.

They haven’t had something this much to celebrate since the 05’ Ashes.

Ground is lightning fast. How in the world did Aussies only score 223? It is not a tough pitch.

Even Root isnt playing like his usual self.
England have played exceptionally well today.

Lord Roy is really furious.
Bairstow shouldnt have reviewed such a plumb lbw.Stupid umpiring as well.

Pakistan defeated England with its strongest batting line up with even moeen ali playing.

A couple more wickets in the next 15-20 runs will send jitters through the England team. And then Starc can unleash his magic ala the NZ WC game in 2015.

Stupid umpires.

What’s even more tragic is Roy might get fined for showcasing dissent with his decision.

Mistakes happen.

Bairstow took a stupid review.

ALso, no matter what, Roy's behavior was pretty bad, no matter how upset you get. Hope he gets fined.

I have seen this in the past where English players misbehave with umpires and get away with a warning only.

Dharmasena is the worst umpire on the circuit at the moment. Its actually shocking how he was voted as ICC best umpire a few years ago. He's absolute trash

Highest wicket taker in the World Cup, how is he overrated ?

He blows either hot or cold, overall.

He’s been excellent in WC’s but in between, not so much.

He has the tendency to get smashed because he lacks variation when his yorkers don’t work.

Even Waqar Younis got smashed by Ajay Jadeja.

But Starc has always been overrated on this forum.

What on earth are you talking about?!

Starc will finish this tournament as the leading wicket taken in back to back WCs. His bowling stats in a batting friendly era are out of this world.

He deserves to be Man of the Tournament again.

Got out to a wrong decision and get fined on top of that, that’s harsh man.

He averages 20s in ODIs, how does he blow hot and cold? 20 average would be ATG material even in 1990s

I think if that was you, you wouldved reacted in the same manner. 100 on the cards in a WC semi.

Id be ******.

Lol because he is always looking for wickets. When he doesn't get wickets he will be expensive but when he comes off , he will win games.

There’s too many matches where he’s asleep in between and then finds his mojo.

I still think it’s too early to call him an ODI ATG; he needs to maintain that average for five more years and then he can surely be called one.

Would be funny if England loses from here.

Not happening though...

You're telling me a bowler who averages 20 and has picked up more than 2 wickets per game is "hot or cold" :))

If you were talking about tests, then yes I would agree he can be a little inconsistent, but still a very proficient red ball bowler.

But in respect of ODIs this is pathetic insight.
