England (246 & 420) secure a tense 28-run victory over India (436 & 202) in the 1st Test in Hyderabad

Well done to England. At the end of day 2, no one gave England a chance and here they are, winning this test against all odds.

Under Dravid and Rohit, we'll never win anything meaningful. Both are losers of highest order.

Dravid's entire focus is how to destroy career of young players like Ishan Kishan to that his own state players place are safe in the team. A proper politician this guy is. Now I think Greg Chappel was the shoulder from where Dravid fired the bullets when he was the captain.

Now what will happen next? Dravid and Rathore will give a call to Visakhapatnam pitch curator and ask them to prepare a pitch where test match will get over in 2 days. I just hope we serve same pitch as this game. If we are good enough we will win...else not. Simple.

Quite interestingly our last three tests at home read - Loss, Draw, Loss

Tom Hartley after his incredible spell of (7-62) against India:

"There's never a dull moment. It's the Stokes way and we've all brought into it and we've come out on top. It's definitely working.

"I was really nervous to start but getting a few runs always helps. It put my nervousness at ease. I found out a few things about the pitch that helped my bowling."

On his favourite wicket: "It has to be the first or the last, it's just a relief either way. It's just unbelievable.

"Watching Jadeja and Ashwin I realised we could take our time a little bit."

Dravid has been a chameleon since his playing days.

Never thought he'll opt for extension of his coaching contract. But he did, so shamelessly. What are his credentials for him to be offered India's coaching?

Have we won ANYTHING under him?

England secured one of their greatest-ever Test victories with Tom Hartley's seven-wicket haul on debut following Ollie Pope's divine 196 as the tourists completed an extraordinary 28-run win over India in the first Test at Hyderabad.

The tourists looked on the brink of defeat on the third afternoon when they slumped to 163-5 in their second innings and still trailed by 27, but Pope and Hartley engineered a stunning revival.

India were eventually bowled out for 202 chasing 231 as Hartley dismissed last man Mohammed Siraj (12) in the dying embers of day four, ending with 7-62 from 26.2 overs having been creamed for 2-131 from 25 in the first innings.

Pope was last out on the fourth morning having helped his side from that perilous position to 420 all out, adding 80 with Hartley (34) for the eighth wicket after England resumed on 316-6 leading by 126.

Hartley then removed four of India's top five, including Rohit Sharma (39) lbw, as the hosts slumped to 119-7 before he returned to snap a 58-run stand between KS Bharat (28) and Ravichandran Ashwin (28) that had dragged India to within 55 runs of victory.

Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah (6no) threatened to take the game into a fifth day but Hartley had the final say, with Siraj stumped and England taking a 1-0 lead into Friday's second Test in Vizag after sensational turnaround.

This stat may not improve your mood but it's the first time India have ever lost a home Test after gaining a 100 run lead in the 1st innings.

There was genuine fury in England over the visa issues trumped up against British born Shoaib Bashir. This victory was for multiculturalism and tolerance over petty hatred.

Pls don't bring these illogical stuffs into our beautiful sport. England played better cricket and they won, simple as that. Visa was also delayed to Pak players during world cup and in general BCCIs stance towards PCB is condescending. Why that couldn't ignite the passion in Pak players? They got folded for 36/8 rather. Cricket is played on skills and better team normally wins irrespective what is happening outside.

Where it went wrong for Team India in Hyderabad? I think India should drop Shubman Gill
Absolutely. Gill is simply hyped up rubbish. He should be sent back to FC. But given that the powers that be have decided to give him a long rope at the expense of other players, I dont see that happening.
Complete batting failure by India in the second innings. Losing by 20 something runs on day 4 is unacceptable.
I wish the likes of Hanuma Vihari were persisted with.

At the end of the day, it's the bowling that cost India.

Can't afford to let teams off the hook from 163/5 and score 420. The spin trio bowled poorly and kept bowling in the 88-92 kph region in the 3rd innings and allowed England to run away with it.

Hartley in the 4th innings slowed it down by an average of 5kph (Down to 84) and that was the right speed to bowl. Shocking that an experienced spin trio could not bowl at the right speed at home whereas a foreign spinner on debut adjusted much quicker ( maybe helped by Nathan Leamon and co. but still)

Impressive stuff. Once again, Bazball proves to be more about outbowling opponents - outreversing Pakistan in Pakistan and outspinning India in India.

england won by a small margin. those runs from hartley and rehan made all the difference. pope being dropped 2 times were also crucial match defining moments.

liam dawson replacing rehan will make this attack more menacing on raging turners. leach is probably injured and a seamer will come in his place

India captain Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation ceremony:

"Hard to pinpoint where it went wrong. Having got a lead of 190, we thought we were very much in the batting. Exceptional batting, one of the best I have seen in Indian conditions by an overseas batter. We bowled in the right areas. The bowlers executed the plans really well, you got to take your hat to Pope and say well played. Overall, we failed as a team. We didn't bat well enough. I wanted them to take the game to the fifth day. The lower order fought really well there. You need to be brave enough, which I thought we weren't."

May be sign of things to come as far as our home dominance is concerned!
It may have gone unnoticed because of our white ball success but India's last 8 test matches have been - Won - 2, Drawn - 2, Lost - 4.

Considering 3 of these tests were at home and two of them were against a very weak WI team, this is a bit concerning for sure. One of the tests that we won in South Africa also saw us lose 6 wickets for 0 runs, we were lucky to have pulled that off because of South Africa's first innings disaster show.

The next 4 tests against England here are important. I also think England might actually play a better combination in the next games as Root is doing a great job as a spinner, so they might drop Rehan for Anderson which will strengthen their attack.

Following England's 28-run triumph over India in the first Test match in Hyderabad, Captain Ben Stokes expressed his thoughts in the post-match press conference:

“Since I’ve taken the captaincy on, where we are and who we’re playing against, it’s 100% our greatest victory."

“It was my first time coming out here and being captain in these conditions. I’m a great observer, I’ve watched how India operate in the field, how Rohit set the field when they bowled.”

“Tom came into the squad for the first time, he’s heard a lot had a lot of confidence. I was willing to give him a long spell regardless of what happened. Whether that was the reason he got seven wickets and won us the game, who knows?”

“Seen some special innings from Joe Root, but the whole innings on a difficult wicket, for me that’s the greatest innings by an Englishman on the subcontinent."

“If you lose, you wake up in the morning, still have a good crack and life and move on. We don’t fear failure. Go out and express yourself and you’ll be all right.”

He did the same during WC Final. AUS were 80-3 and the spinners got a couple of outside edges but Rohit had the field spread.
I remember that. They were struggling 47-3 and both head and labu edged - no slip at all. Some captains would have put 2 slips! Fir all the batting failure in the WC final - Ind were still in with a great chance after aus lost 3 wickets. He let the game drift with singles conceded and very defensive fields. Did the same here as well

Enough of what? The turn is slow and batsman will have ample time to adjust.
The new ball will do something for a couple of overs and then it will be fun barrel straight.

The only way India is losing this is by choking or play stupid shots.

Well, there you go.

It's about bowling correct line and length. We don't have Tendulkars and Gavaskars in our lineup. Our batsman are crap, we have long tail but otherwise main batters can't bat well if the bowlers are bowling correct line and length. Now deal with the reality check.

Who dropped Pope ? Didn't know he was dropped twice. What an epic knock by him! Simply phenomenal! 👍

Similar speech after odi WC final. replace pope with head, ind was not brave , hard to pinpoint.. what he fails to mention- a common string in both - is that his captaincy was horrible and very defensive and timid. Ind will have the Same issue in the t20 WC 2024.. A sf crash out for ind beckons.

Pitch is not to be blamed. Any decent player of spin could at least score a 30 or 40 on this pitch even on a bad day.

What a great win for England something that most teams have failed to do.

The GOAT was missing from India xi.

As I mentioned before- bazball is not easy.. you need a lot of skill , confidence and courage to pull it off. People mocking bazball as a fad dont realize how tough it is.. absolute credit to eng here! And that's why it's still such a mystery why they underperformed so much in the odi WC..

These guys have temperament issues. They can lose any winnable game. Once the target went past 200, you should be aware that this batting is capable of bottling it big time.

My issue is also with the capabilities of our batsmen. There are no real demons in the pitch. There is turn all through the match and it is not vicious. It is slow and any decent player of spin can adjust with relative ease. Indian batsmen were pushing at the turning ball which is a huge mistake.

Not sure if Jaiswal was given instructions by Dravid and management to not be attacking and keep his wicket. He never has this approach in any format and do wilt under pressure . Timid tuk tuk approach will take you nowhere

What a thrilling test and win for Eng here. Loved it.

Hope it's not just one fluke win and then thrashing for Eng and Eng can actually compete in series.
England sadly have no chance in the rest of the series.

India will cheat shamelessly and doctor the pitches without even caring if it’s obvious or not.

Dravid and rohit are a terrible combo, they are hellbent on talking us backwards.
And the Instagram star gill needs to be dropped, along with iyer bhai.
Suraj needs to be replaced with kuldeep

Why do you think Indian bowlers couldn't adapt to the conditions? Is it because they've been spoilt by rank turners where you don't have to think much, just run in bowl and pitch will do the rest.

Tbh Ben Ducket and Ollie Pope's, the ruthless efficient manner in which they play the regular orthodox and reverse sweep to all corners of the field will demoralize even the best of spinners.

Not entirely sure. It could be that the track had become more conducive to spin by the 4th innings as well .

Spin degrees by innings

1. 4
2. 3.7
3. 4.2
4. 5.2

It was clearly ragging more and Hartley probably saw an opportunity to slow it down and maximise the turn.

Eng team's positive and aggressive approach. Doesn't means 4s and 6s but playing it like an odi constantly rotating strike with singles. Sweep and reverse sweep throwing bowlers off their lengths. Not play dot after dot like ind did. Key word is "intent" . You poke and prod , play tuk tuk - you will eventually get a ball with your name on it

India head coach Rahul Dravid spoke about the team’s loss in the first Test of the series against England in Hyderabad:

“We shouldn’t have been chasing 230, but Ollie Pope came out, and played a fantastic innings,” Dravid said, crediting the England batter’s knock as “the difference in the game”.

“I certainly didn’t see someone do it that consistently and successfully. Especially the reverse sweep; to play it for that long and successfully, hats off to him.”

“I won’t be so harsh to judge them today, and in fact, I think we left 70 runs on the board in the first innings. When the conditions were pretty good to bat on Day 2, we got ourselves to good starts but didn’t capitalise.

“We didn’t have someone getting a hundred for us. The second innings is always going to be challenging. We got close, and we have to get better.

“A lot of our players are young, and these guys play a lot of white-ball cricket, and they don’t get a lot of time to play first-class cricket. They are learning,” Dravid added, reminding everyone that these players had come in after scoring runs in domestic cricket and doing well for the India A team.

"It is not that we are picking people out of nowhere, and sometimes it takes a bit of time for people to adjust,” he concluded.

Congrats to ENG, well deserved and played really well.

It is refreshing to see a change, rather than the usual every visiting team getting whooped in India on a regular basis.

Lastly, Shubhman Gill should nowhere be near the test team, this kid is too busy showboating on his social media, he doesn't have what it takes in the test level.

Gill's performances don't match his hype. It appears getting so much fame, adulation and money has ruined his hunger to improve and take his game to the next stage.

What a turnaround from England!
Hope the rest of the games are this good and we don't get complete square turners that end the match in 2 days from now on

India will be under pressure now... this time england would be on driving seat so u never know to overcome this deficit India will now prepare a sapaat phatta track to get some goody goody runs.

"Ashwin And Jadeja Should...": India Star Slams Rohit Sharma's Captaincy TacticsDinesh Karthik was not pleased with Rohit Sharma's 'defensive' approach on Day 4 of the first Test match against England on Sunday.

Veteran Indian cricket team wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik was not pleased with Rohit Sharma's 'defensive' approach on Day 4 of the first Test match against England on Sunday. Resuming at 316/6, Ollie Pope ended up scoring 196 as India were given a target of 231. Karthik said that India were very defensive in their approach from the start of the day and although it was understandable to be conservative in their tactics against Pope, he pointed out that against tail-enders like Tom Hartley, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja should have had attacking fielders to create pressure.

"India have been too defensive. I can understand being defensive to Pope but to Tom Hartley, Jadeja and Ashwin should get attacking fielders and not so many sweepers," Karthik said on JioCinema.

Legendary India cricketer Ravi Shastri also echoed similar sentiments as he said that it is 'unknown territory' for Rohit and Co for a visiting side to score over 400 runs in the third innings.

"The body language is dropping. This is an unknown territory for India. You can sense the home team is under pressure. They are not used to visiting teams pilling on 400-plus runs in the third innings," he said.

Pope hit 196 as England ended their second innings on 420 all out on Sunday's day four, with India needing 231 runs to win the opening Test.

Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah got four wickets and bowled Pope to wrap up the England innings in the first session in Hyderabad after the tourists resumed the day on 316-6.

England slipped to 163-5 on Saturday after starting the innings 190 runs behind, but Pope hit back with his fifth Test ton and a 112-run stand with Ben Foakes.

Let's see if England can replicate this on rank turning tracks

Well they won’t replicate the performance, because the game would play out differently for both sides on a rank turner. But if the BCCI now take the cheap option and prepare volcanic minefields for the remainder of the series, I am not sure how much it matters. Everyone will see what has happened, and any England win from that point will be viewed as a bonus.

One of our best wins ever, slightly diminished by playing against an extremely meek and heartless Indian team, all we needed was a Joe Bloe XI from the Sundays to win.

_20240129_145647.JPGIndia fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been handed an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first match of the ICC World Test Championship series against England in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Bumrah was found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match.”

In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to Bumrah’s disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period.

The incident occurred in the 81st over of England’s second innings, when Bumrah, after completing his follow through, deliberately stepped in Ollie Pope’s way as the batter went for a run, leading to inappropriate physical contact.

It seems to me that he did it deliberately.

Arrogance. Unable to appreciate opposition doing well in India

KL Rahul and Jajeja ruled out of 2nd Test against England.

With this, England will go up 2-0. Jadeja is as important as Kohli or even more in Indian Tests.
