Class performance from Sibley. This match is set up wonderfully. As a note, if this was a 4-day match, England would still be 1-0 down. Yet another reason to ignore that stupid idea.

England would've batted more aggressively and declared earlier (and there would still be 32 overs left in the game).

England should win from here unless we get a FAF blockathon special.

Stokes bowling 145+ each delivery.

When did he become this fast?

Stokes in the big moments lifts his game, be bat or ball, the guy is a friek, hope by end of his career he manages to get his stats in order as he deserves alot of plaudits for his talents

England in a good position, but nothing is guaranteed yet. SA’s tactics in this game have been far too defensive for a win to realistically be on the table for them, but they could still potentially squeeze out of this situation with a draw.

England need to bowl patiently, field energetically, and catch flawlessly in order to take these 8 wickets.

The main points of encouragement for England are as follows:
- 90+ overs to be bowled and 300+ runs to play with.
- Nightwatchman is out there. A great chance to take an early wicket and create some momentum.
- The second new ball will be available straight after lunch.
- Stokes looked in one of his “moods” today - with both bat and ball - and he will be desperate to make an impact tomorrow.
- One or two cracks are starting to open in the pitch.
- Anderson’s late wicket. Not only because it moved the scoreboard on and gave the whole team a lift. More because it showed that there is still some life out there - after hitting the pitch, it just moved away from the right-hander slightly. A tiny bit of deviation is all the encouragement that Anderson and Broad will need.

I’m optimistic.

South African opening batsman Dean Elgar insisted that he was "very confident" he should not have been given out on Monday during the second Test against England at Newlands.

Elgar, who made 88 in the first innings, fell for 34 when he was given out caught behind by Jos Buttler off Joe Denly's occasional leg-spin, despite referring the decision.

"I wouldn't waste a referral knowing that I've nicked it. I don't play cricket like that," the 32-year-old told Sky Sports.

"I like to see myself as someone who takes their outs when they're definitely out.

"It's a bit of an emotional time when those kind of things happen. Obviously I had to simmer down and watching the footage, I could still say that I haven't hit it."

The left-hander pushed forward against Denly's delivery, with a faint 'spike' on UltraEdge enough for TV umpire Chris Gaffaney to uphold Paul Reiffel's on-field decision of out.

South Africa closed the fourth day in Cape Town on 126-2 in pursuit of a world-record 438 for victory, with England needing eight more wickets on Tuesday to level the series at 1-1.

"I'm going to reserve my comments because I don't want to get into trouble by the ICC, but as a player I can say that I'm very confident that I didn't nick it," added Elgar.

"Sometimes you have those things go your way and sometimes you don't.

"Unfortunately today, again I was feeling a million dollars, it just didn't work out for us. But saying that, we've still got guys in the shed."

Elgar was England batsman Denly's first Test victim.

How was this out? Makes no sense and SA rightly aggrieved.

early wicket, nightwatchmen didnt last long.

7 wickets needed by england now.

England will win but make heavy going of it. I wish Archer was here.

Tough fight this for SA.

Malan has only two fours in 70 runs. Is that a record?

Hope he makes a 100 with only two boundaries

That looks out to me.

faintest of edges - could even be an anomaly?

Lunch. Six wickets left to take. Must say this Malan fella has ticker.

Faf was the big wicket in this scenario.

6 wickets in 2 sessions will still be a grind, but it should just about be doable - could go down to the last 5 overs or so.

The England fans are being slightly pessimistic here. England should win comfortably here.

imagine if pieter malan migrated to england and opened with dom sibley. run rate at snail pace

Malan goes to Stokes in the slips. Beautiful bowling from Curran, not only to get one to bounce on his off stump, but also to create doubt with his previous zippy maiden over.

dom bess is bowling tight, becoming better as the game progresses.

denly is also a proper leggie, not just a part timer.

england will be pretty lethal in the subcontinent.

c'mon saffers. let's beat the poms.
like I said before, England are a good team. People keep underrating them. I don't know why. They may not have players with great averages but they have a lot of decent bowlers who can bat deep. That always helps.

anyway c'mon boks.

If Leach were playing I think England would have won by now. Bess is just a roller really.

South Africans are blocking champions, not the first time they have saved a lost game with efficient relentless blocking

England should never drop Archer as long as he is fit to play. He is the one who brings a new dimension and creates a spark when others look flat.

They made a mistake by not picking him for the first Ashes Test and they have made a mistake again.

Anderson, Broad and Curran have run out of ideas and there is no one now to rough the batsmen up and bowl with venom.

Stokes is not much of a bowler anymore. He is only there to allow Anderson and Broad to rest in-between spells.

Bess looks quite ordinary with the ball.

If South Africa hold on which they should, this will go down as a huge missed opportunity and should be the final nail in Root’s captaincy coffin.

Frustrating. England won’t want to need to take five wickets in a session. This is where Archer would be handy.

So u do finally admit moeen is the logic choice as the spinner

You need to produce bowlers who is capable to take wickets with any ball on any surface.

One more wicket and england are into a very long tail. They will need a wicket in 1st 10 overs after tea.

Moeen is pathetic who should not play for England unless he develops some guts. Furthermore, he has always been a bottler overseas.

Leach is the one who should be playing ahead of Bess.

never underestimate south africa. c'mon boys let's gooooo.

if they hold on then I think saffers can win th is series.

Quinton de Block and Rassie park de Bussen holding firm here.

maybe the leggie, matt parkinson would have been a wicket taking option, and better than bess, who is just containing batsmen, which is not required now

also this potch is a road, pat cummins and maybe bumrah are the only seamers who can take a wicket on this dry, slow pitch

Actually Moeen has an excellent bowling record in the last innings.

Archer was ruled out of this Test due to injury.

This match is a prime example why test cricket needs to remain 5 days.

16 overs left can England get the break through. These two the last hope for SA

I would not have picked Anderson who has a mediocre record in SA. England need a fast bowler.

Starting to look like a draw now.

Well to be honest the fast bowlers have justified their selection, just missed a quality experienced spinner
