What's new

England [277 & 361/5d] beat Windies [154 & 252] by 232 runs in the third Test, WI win series 2-1

I love the progress gabriel has made and I always felt her be a handful for England.

WI are slowing down. Day of missed chances for them, and England will win the test from here. Congrats Robert and other English fans.

How much English cricket have you watched recently ?

Never underestimate their propensity to collapse.

Once again Brathwhite is showing great temperament. WI should buckle down and stretch the lead as much as they can.

Good start from Mark Wood. Finally some genuine pace from England.

Poor batting from Hope. Wood beat the bat three times in the over but still can't resist the drive even after already losing two quick wickets.

Serious pace Mark Wood. This is what they have been missing. Also notice he bowling off a longer runup.

I have to apologize to the Windies.

I switched over to them from football at 57-0 and first ball wicket, second ball wicket. 2-4 since I started watching, terribly jinxed them.

As I was saying, England already had enough runs on the board end of play yesterday.

Rocketspeed Wood!!!

His remodelled action is working. This is what England have been missing for years. If only we had him in this form in Australia.

Wood is reminding me of Harmison's spell at Sabina Park in 2004.

Bowling with serious pace on a pitch suited to his style of bowling.

Hopefully this ends the Sam Curran experiment.

This is some top class pace bowling. Some horrid shots by West Indies definitely did not help though.

So our real fast bowlers are playing as England players in disguise! :akhtar:wasim:waqar:ik:broad

WI desperately missed the late order guidance from Holder. Also missing the leadership on the field.

Superb to watch Wood.

90mph plus.

Making the batsmen duck, dive and face raw pace.

Great to see Wood get a Michelle.

Four in the first innings for Moeen too.....

England in control.

19/0 and 142 runs ahead.

England only on top because ECB used their filthy big 3 influence to get rid of Holder and then play mind games with the whole point penalties due to poor wicket in the last Test even though WI smashed them to pieces by scoring 300. If England win this, it will be among the most tainted victories in Test history and every England fan should be ashamed.

England finally played 3 Pacers who suit the conditions and are in good position.

:aag from wood.

Ahaha, good one.

You’re taking contrarianism a bit far here. Holder has been censured for slowing the game down four times. As the West Indies people say - he that don’t hear will feel.

Paul done for this match & Gabriel too feeling his hammies . Looks like visitors will declare at 300 .

West Indies 154 all out
England 277, 68/1 (21.3 Overs) current run rate: 3.16

Come on Joe Denly, get a hundred, sort out the #3 problem so we can drop Bairstow.

This is a predictably kneejerk opinion, but Joe Denly is looking rather good batting at 3 here. More so for the manner of his batting than the actual runs he has scored. Some exquisite shots under not a lot of pressure admittedly. Given that the cupboard is empty, I think he's done enough to be picked for the Ashes.

Come on Joe Denly. Let’s have two positives out of this benighted tour (Wood is the other, picked two tests late).

69 for Denly. Should be nailed on for the first Ashes test.

Root playing the anchor role....

England decide to turn up when series was over. I bet W.I wish england would tour more often.

When to declare? WI won’t get 330.

Two days left, might as well get some batting practice in for a couple more sessions.

A good opportunity for Root to get an overseas ton here....

After lord mares show, must be dissapointed in englands efforts overall in this series.

'Really pleasing to show improvement' – Joe Root

England captain Joe Root, who registered his 16th Test century after a patch of low scores, said he enjoyed the battle and was pleased with the improvement his side had shown in the third Test against Windies in St Lucia.

Joe Root came into the game with scores of 4, 22, 7 and 7 in the previous two Tests of the series, both of which England lost to concede the series. Root snapped the string of low scores with a gritty century on Monday, February 11 to put his side in complete command.

The knock came against an in-form attack, featuring the likes of Shannon Gabriel, Kemar Roach and Alzarri Joseph on a reasonably lively wicket. Root acknowledged that it was a battle, which is what made the knock more special.

"It was a good hard scrap," said Root after third day's play. "But it was really enjoyable because sometimes, when things aren't quite happening for you, you think you're battling a little bit. To come out the other side is really pleasing.

"My feet haven't always been doing what I want them to so it's been a constant battle to find a formula that gets me off to a good start. Once you're off and running things become a little bit easier. It's nice to see all the hard work come to the fore by being here at the end of the day not out."

Root's improvement mirrored an overall improvement by the team, and they're now 448 runs in front with four wickets still in hand, including that of Root batting on 111. The series may be lost, but this is a good chance for England to show why they're ranked so highly on the MRF Tyres ICC Test rankings.

"It's been a tough series for me personally and for the guys. We've worked extremely hard on this trip but things haven't gone as we wanted. We've not played good cricket at times.

"So to respond as we have today and be in this position of strength with two days left is really pleasing. It's really pleasing to show improvement and willingness to adapt to conditions. Even though the series is gone there's still a lot to play for.

Root enjoyed a fantastic 74-run stand with Joe Denly for the second-wicket and was at the other end to see the 32-year-old bring up his maiden half-century before he got out for 69. The captain richly lauded the effort.

"He played beautifully," Root said. "I thought he played with good balance, good style and grace - as you'd expect him to when he gets runs. He should have a lot of confidence with the way he played."

As is often the case, England seem to have found something close to the right team too late.

Batting practice for another session, then five sessions to bowl WI out.

Gabriel might be in trouble for some comments on Root & Denly in 2nd session .
See no point in batting further as 448 ahead is surely enough .

lol. Nice try, but no.

England 277 & 361/5d
West Indies 154 & 31/3 * (15.3 ov, target 485)

WI misses their inspiring leader. They are a brittle side that needed a great captain. It is no coincidence that the team that thumped England in the last 2 tests (even when they played 8 batsmen) will implode like this. There is no other reason one can think of.

4 down. Although the series is won, WI was expected to put up a fight. They just collapsed in heap in both innings.

This is the only era where both teams ina series thump each other atleast in one test more often than not.

Hosts playing like visitors finally .
The most pleasant part of this series were the pitches , conducive to bowling .
The most irritating part of the series was every single English commentator & expert on TV & BBC talking about Ashes right from day 1 of first Test till to date as if being rubbished 2-0 & the series at hand did not matter .

This won’t make sense unless you are English or Australian.

England made right selections & for the first time their batting & bowling clicked in the series so now windies are on the edge of defeat despite playing 7 batsmen & yes they are also missing their 8th batsman holder.
