What's new

England finish Day 2 on 92/4 in response to Pakistan’s first-innings total of 326

Despite YK's personality and craziness, there is no question of his batting knowledge and importance around the young batsmen.

Thats what I want to see Shan do against spin more often. Sweep shot and using the feet in the same over, great stuff.

Shan absolutely bossing it now. Totally in control.

This strike rotation and change of intent is something we havent seen in last two decades in overseas conditions. Definitely has done a good job in little time he have had. Batting performance can be up and down but the intent to take singles is really encouraging sign.

Ward asked him about Shan's outside of offstump line issues in 2016 and he gave a totally different answer.

True, but I feel that this well improve if he sticks in this capacity for longer. Already speaking better than he used to a few years ago.

Will they play until 7:30 tonight?

I guess they need to make up the hours from yesterday.

You have to love YK...
Ignore the question and just insert “me” and “I” in to every sentence

This partnership have mentally disintegrated england .they seems tired in the field

This guy masood is ready for one dayers. Seems to have his head in place which is a rarity for us. Also has amazing list A stats

The way Pak is grinding, it doesnt look likely that all English pacers can last for three tests.

In last 30 years, opening batsmen to score 3 consecutive Test hundreds:-

David Warner in 2014
David Warner in 2015
Shan Masood in 2019-20

Most Test 100s in WTC among Openers

Shan Masood - 3*
Mayank Agarwal - 3
Rohit Sharma - 3
David Warner - 3

England badly miss Ben Stokes the bowler. He had a knack of making things happen. Right now it's all too flat.

This is why I don’t rate Anderson and Broad as highly as Fraser, Caddick and Gough. They can look powerless against good batters when the ball is not helping them.

I am not impressed by Root's captaincy - particularly the 30 minutes after lunch both days have been atrocious. Letting his team's intensity drop so much. Bess/Root bowling today with new batsman on was something a great captain would never do.

I think Archer should knock over the three Number 11s and Yasir fairly quickly now.

Good knock from Shadab, just needs bit more composure and calm at the crease.

Not to also forget he has one of the brightest cricketing IQs in the country. He was instrumental to Pakistan's T20 WC in 2009. Best Pakistan captain I've seen in the last 20 years.

Doesn't get the credit he deserves on PP.

Since the start of 2010, England have bowled 20+ overs in 317 sessions of Test cricket at home.

Only *five* of those sessions have a lower dot-ball percentage than this one.

Pakistan are scoring off 46% of the balls bowled - England cannot get control.

Out of curiosity, when was the last time an opener carried the bat in ENG?

I'd be shocked if Naseem, Shaheen and Abbas cumulatively manage to add 15 runs.

Gotta admit, I liked this innings from Shadab despite the stupid way of getting out.

Shadab actually changed the complexion of the match with that partnership with Shan.

Eight more overs until a late Tea.

If Pakistan can reach 300 they are in control of the match.

Does anyone know how much Yasir Khan scored in 2016 while batting? Thing he had some 30s?

Shadab did better than I expected but still has the mentality of a limited overs batsman. But sometimes it's better to be a lucky player than be technically sound. If he's serious about being a Test player, there's still a lot of work required. With this innings he's earned an opportunity to stay in the team but only if he continues to develop his technical and mental skills.

Poor shot but Shadab did his job. Shan needs to start farming the strike now, hopefully Yasir can chip in with 10-15.

At no 7 you need to have bit of aggressive mentality. One of the reasons Eng have kept Buttler in tests for so long. His mentality changed the game to an extent with English bowlers struggling to find where to ball against him.

That's probably as much as they can expect considering the tail is in, and I don't think Shan is the type to farm the strike effectively. But not a bad score considering the morning session where it could easily have ended up being a score of around 200. At least they will now have something to bowl at, but needs to be 350 or so to apply any real pressure.

Broad and Anderson's fitness is being tested here by Pak.

well batted shadab and shaan. Just a great partnership. Heres hoping yasir uses his 100 knowledge to get to around 20 odd, then ask shaheen and co to swing for it..

shadab and shan running and fitness was commendable throughout the partnership

Proper attritional test cricket. Well done PAK for bringing us this, so much better than WI.

Broad and Anderson's fitness is being tested here by Pak.

England have already played three back to back Tests so vital we keep them out in the field for as long as possible.

Bowlers picking up knocks, batsmen who are mentally tired are more likely to make mistakes.

Another missed chance from Buttler. He is having a horrific test behind the stumps.

It seems Shadab has played well. Negotiated the new ball that was available after 80 overs. Btw, what a magnificent knock this is from Masood.

300+ puts Pakistan ahead and 350 puts them into driving seat.
