200 on this wicket would be good if India can dig in and get there.

Lack of application. It's not easy batting in England, particularly in these conditions/circumstances.

When they say Root is a HTB, you realise how good he must be to have the record he does to even be called a HTB. Never easy to bat in England - need to grind it out like Rahul had done in the first 2 tests.

How long can Rahane last? Can he survive till lunch?

Will Bumrah and Shami have to score runs again?

Why do they bother trying to play these booming drives to Anderson when there will only be one outcome?

Next game play Vihari instead of Pujara .IF rahane fail in this inning than dropped him for SKY. Unfortunately Virat is caption so we can't drop him

This a typical batting performance for India in England .. have been saved by openers in the first two tests ... Middle order batting non-existent .. Innings defeat loading up .....

This a high level of seam movement

If there's a venue in England where it's the best place to bowl first on day 1, it's the Headingley.

Team management should have done its research. It gets easier to bat as days go on (look back at Shai Hope and Ben Stokes' chase on the last day) but the most difficult day to bat is day 1 when teams have collapsed to low totals. Kohli bats first always (he even batted first on that snakepit of a wicket at the Wanderers) and his bone headed dogmatic approach to calling tosses and batting first absolutely annoys me.

wow Anderson. He might just finish off the rest too

Wouldn't worry bhai-o.

India's pace battery is better than England's with not much more to offer in their own batting department; we've got a plot thickening here.

All 3 of Pujara, Kohli and Rahane seem to be finished but there isn't many middle order batsmen to replace them. Everyone seems to be an opener these days.

There is a morning session in every test match in England and Anderson has bowled many times and this extremely high level of seam movement. Unless the usual excuse if bad weather is rolled out, this pitch has been prepared specifically for the touring side.

So you bat second in every England test?

I would *always* bat first, unless under total overcast and even then it is dodgy.

Lack of opportunities to score may be for the dominant and agressive Kohli's men. Falling for the bait trying to assert themselves early in the game.

31/3 of which 13 have come from extras. batsmen yet to cross double digits

Rahul and Kohli’s dismissals were totally avoidable .. driving so early way outside the off stump that too off Anderson ..

Don't worry. VK & Shastri have the previous match's victory under their belts, & they will continue to gloss over it.
Rudimentary mistakes like team selection, school level captaincy in choosing to bat after toss etc. shall be brushed aside, while his fans will keep defending him.

Next before we know, the IPL shall come, & all shall be hunky dory till the next series. Rinse-repeat

Kohli gone for a low score again while Mumbai batsmen Rohit and Rahane battling it out in the crease. Dream scenario for Gavaskar and Manjrekar lmao.

Headingly the ball always zips around the first 2 sessions.

In fact many teams lose batting first - im sure all the scorecards over the years will back this up.

If India don’t get at least 300 they will be in trouble because the pitch flattens up the next day.

However the pitch can start to break up on the final day, that’s if the match goes that far. It rarely doesn’t.

They should have bowled Overton ahead of Curran. These 2 have high release points and can extract bounce from this deck.

Sanjay Manjrekar + Sunil Gavaskar + Harsha Bhogle + Saba Karim
There's no television network that can match this combo.

Agarkar towers over these - such are the standards.

ENG playing Curran and Overton based on their better batting abilitiy.....both of them bowl harmlessly at 125kph.

Very defensive by Eng management, Saqib Mahmood should have played here.

Why didn't Eng select Saqib Mahmood......Craig Overton is another trundler similar to Curran.

Very defensive by Eng....selecting bowlers based on their batting ability

Overton has been doing very well past 2 County seasons.
He should have played over Sam curran in the first 2 tests. Can bat at no 8.

Mahmood over curran would seem the right move. But eng may depend on currans batting as moeen is hit or miss at no 7.

Apart from Anderson this england bowling attack is toothless. They are struggling here and will get mauled in Australia aswell, even with Aussies been an average side now.

Been impressed by Rohit all series. Hes gone against his natural game early on, dug in and then thrived later on. smart cricketer.

Yeah....playing both Curran and Overton together makes no sense.
It makes the bowling attack one dimensional....there's no one to offer some pace.

Its all on Anderson here.

If India lose or draw this series, definitely Rahane & Pujara might be dropped....

India need at least 300 runs .. at this rate they will achieve that in 3 innings ..

Pant might play some attacking cricket alongside sharma after lunch to get india moving. India can still dig in and make england work hard to get remaining wkts. As they were saying the pitch was getting easier to bat on. Lets see what happens after lunch

India in trouble again due to fragile batting. As I said in the last match thread, India have a lot of weaklings but it doesn't get noticed because other teams are weaker. This is being proved right again.

England need to keep India under 250, the Indian seam attack collectively is stronger than England's.

Pujara and rahane has been a burden for a long time. Especially pujara.

Great chance for Eng to make it 1-1 here. Eng needs to bowl normally and don't have brain fade to go for bouncers. The weak tail of India should cost them sooner or later.

Robinson has a better test average than Anderson. He has had a great start.

Curran should not go to Australia.

This is what happens when Kohli wins a toss

Exactly! If England had won the toss and put India to bat, then at least the openers would have batted carefully as in previous matches... He won the toss and said common boys (aided by Shastri) and they got the wrong charge!

This game is done & dusted . I have feeling this is repeat of 2014 tour . 1st test was draw & 2nd india won on both tour's . after than England all over india so Eng 3-1

Its okay....our main batsmen Shami & Bumrah is yet to bat. If those 2 can stich another partnership like Lords and takes us close to 250, we should be good.

Time for 'specialist' batsman Jadeja to prove his worth.

India should not loose hope here. They just need to cross 200 mark. England batting is horrendous.

Lol 100 banna muskil lag rha h or 250 ki soch re

Self proclaimed 'important player' and next Gen Gilchrist also gone.

This has been really poor series for Pant, the batsman.

Rohit Sharma has been India's most consistent Test Batsman of late...
