What's new

England reach 77/0 at stumps on Day 4 in pursuit of a target of 368 runs against India

Because it is the last innings. The wicket is less relevant than the psychological pressure. I wouldn’t back Strauss’s team to get 250, let alone these guys.

Not necessarily. We saw pitches that were actually a bit tougher than this at the SCH and the MCG last season and India drew and won the matches despite batting second. Root , on current form, is a monster on flat pitches.

2nd test Day 5 was also flat, England could not survive for 2 sessions there

No it wasn't . It started misbehaving enough for the bowlers to exploit the conditions. In fact , kohli declared as doon as the pitch started doing something.

Root goes through these phases as captain where he has zero clue as to what to do. Pant has been Robinson's bunny this entire series yet Robinson has not bowled at all to him.

They have the best back end analytics for these match ups and should be getting it right more often than other teams.

Where is buffet ? I like his view as whatever he said happened apposite .

Unless Eng gets these wickets I think India will try to give target between 330-360 and then declare to have 15-25 overs to bowl at the end of the day.

Whatever happens from here in this series, one thing is certain, we have played far better in England's home than they did at our home.

India have enough runs already, just need to leave themselves enough time to take 10 wickets. Win here and they cant lose the series.

True. And we did'nt whinge. About the weather, toss, pitches, whatever. Didnt moan about rain ruining the first test.
coming back to here, still long way to go, i guess no Ashwin is preying at back of VK's mind along with flat pitch and conditions are 22 deg and sunny.
First check point is 300 and then reassess from there
But yeah, good spunk and spirit shown by our guys.

I said if India gets to 300 then they have a far higher chance to win. It seems Indian may get 300+ here. It is always hard to chase 300+ in 4th innings even on a flat pitch. It can be done but does not happen often.

If the sun remains out and the pitch dries more then Jadeja will be more than handy.

Moeen Ali and Haseeb Hameed have bottled it.

I hope Moeen Bhai, Haseeb Bhai and ofcourse Tim Paine does not look back feeling regretful. :inti

Thakur is a good prospect for test matches.

His batting in tests is quite surprising compared with his batting in other formats, somewhat like Faheem Ashraf but more attacking.

That’s it. Calling it.

India will win.

England have completely blown their reviews, and I don’t even have words that do justice to that missed run out. It was an absolutely catastrophic disaster.

England haven’t been good enough. They don’t deserve to win.

Well played India.

Really good knock from Thakur. Have had clutch contributions for India in recent overseas series and this is another one.

Shardul Wow -another 50.
Must say the guy has the heart of a lion, is passionate, plays every game as if its his last one and is fun to watch especially when batting.
And he gets wickets as well.
Just goes to show you may not be the most talented or the best built, but with the passion and willingness to go the distance for the team, you will be succesful.

Pant is slowly but steadily playing well under Shardul's shadow. If India wins credit will go to Shardul for that first inning 57 which brought India into this match. :inti

400 up for India. Yes a flatter wicket but, pretty ordinary bowling effort from Eng. Not that common to concede over 400 now a days on most surfaces

Lol, Warne trolling English commies by restricting Anderson's greatness to conducive conditions.

Pant can be a Gavaskar one day, Afridi one day and a Gilchrist another day. I don't get it, but he played well today so credit where it is due

Pant is playing the role of mature responsible batsman while Shardul is being the brash aggressive game changing guy. Good to see the change, Pant is capable of both roles, extremely versatile cricketer.

Root needs to bowl few overs himself to try something different

That was fun 😂 But honestly, thats like daylight between his first & second inning stats! I agree, Anderson is a one-trick pony & thats why he will never be counted as one of the greats of the game.

"Pujara said 250 will be enough on this pitch, I wanna have a bet with him. 250 would've been enough if Ravi Ashwin was playing, Jadeja isn't as threatening as Ashwin". - Michael Holding.

Hussain and Butcher slamming the England tactics and captaincy. Deservedly so.

England have missed a 90 mph plus reverse swinger and a reliable spinner on this wicket. Something for them to think about going forward

Warne pointing out that Root has no choice but to bowl his best quicks because Moeen has gone at 4.5 an over. Nasser insisting spin has to be bowled.

Holy ravioli, was that Shardul or tendulkar
that straight drive was tendulkar off merv hughes, perth 1992
Wow

Not really. Pant looks clueless in seaming swinging conditions and can't hit his way out of trouble there. That's not exactly versatility

He batted extremely well today. Resisted given the importance of the match situation and is just on the way to completely end any chance of England to win this series. Need to bat an hour more though.

Conditions were much easier today and there wasn't any pressure on him. He had the time today to get back into some kind of form. This is his first nice inning after he has landed in England. This is his 5th test here this season if we also count WTC final. :inti
