What's new

England reach 77/0 at stumps on Day 4 in pursuit of a target of 368 runs against India

What a great shot from Umesh! That will hurt Woakes' ego big time!

Mark wood should have been picked ahead of the mediocre Overton.

Huge blunder from Root.

Anything under 400 is risky on this flattest pitch in the history..... England has got more than 130 overs to chase this down....not difficult on this pitch.

Yeah Shardul's inning has nothing to do with the match and Pant's inning lol. Did you even watch the match? His inning allowed Pant to stay there and get back into form on this flat wicket. If he had gotten out early then Pant would have most likely played a stupid shot like he played in the first inning and got out too. :inti

Where did I say Shardul's innings has nothing to do with the match?

You are just inventing reasons now.Don't worry you had enough chances this series

Indian lower order batsmen thrown it away ....they should have focused on getting 400 run lead

Inventing reasons for what? You said what has Shardul's inning got to do with it and I just replied. What chances are you talking about here? Why are you so sensitive lol? :inti

Reminiscence of Gabba 2021 :yk

It is pretty enjoyable watching the bitter guy panicking as he struggles to find a way to take away the credit from the batsman.

Maximum 131 over left but we would get around 120 .so England have enough over to chase this target .but it's very very difficult task for them .

A series winning batting by the Ind lower order. Unless a miracle happens, Ind will win easily against this flaky batting lineup.

Rahane's duck is looking like such a sore spot when everyone contributed in getting us 466 in this innings.

If Ind were chasing on here I would expect them to chase it down on this flat wicket but Eng batting is awful

Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara will not take the field. Rohit has discomfort in his left knee while Pujara has pain in his left ankle. The BCCI medical team is assessing them.

Rohit Sharma missing means that India will have to change their slip cordon too. He's been excellent at second slip in this series.

We've seen the consequences changing the slip cordon has had on England.

Burns has such an awkward stance, keeps dancing till the bowler bowls.

Pant and Thakur batted really well to bring India to a good position.....Pant' batting was really cool today in such a pressure situation, didn't expect it from him.

England have to bat really well to avoid defeat here, big big ask. England should have restricted Indian target to 300

Thakur batting has been refreshing , he contributed in both innings , genuine team man.

3 runs per over...not difficult on this pitch...no chance of draw here... it's either India or england.

Then its India , 3 runs per over for over 100 overs is not easy , with best bowlers bowling maximum overs

All for India to lose here. England look hung, dried and quartered.

I can't imagine this batting line up making more than 200.

England have missed a massive trick this series. Jofra was out injured and Saqib really should have been the replacement with his pace and late movement. Instead, the entire series has been right arm bowlers, who get a bit of nip and who, at best, bowl around 85mph and need overcast conditions.

They have also failed to utilise some spin options.

Thakur and Siraj are not 100 percent fit, as per VVS on Cricinfo....so it is difficult to get 10 wkts on this pitch... India should control the run flow.

our guys are wasting the new ball by bowling too short and wide out side off.
C'mon umi pitch it up further

Dead flat pitch. Scoring maybe be harder because the pitch/outfield has slowed down but wickets will be extremely hard to come by

So that we are clear, we have very low tolerance for any references to religion of any player on this thread or on CF.

Also cut out the "brother" business with Moeen or Haseeb's name - very obvious why its been done and we arent blind.

The only chance of taking wickets on this pitch is with a new ball....if India cannot get wickets with this new ball like england did, then no way they can win this match once the ball loses its shine.

India can also get in more overs quickly with Jadeja.. will help in increasing the required run rate… if that ever becomes a factor

This wicket looks remarkably bare and free of indentations after four days of cricket.

It's a tall order for England, but it's not impossible to escape without defeat here. Kohli might yet rue the decision to omit Ashwin.

This wicket seems incredibly placid. Well it must be if our openers can survive on it for 11 overs. Not a great pitch for Test match cricket in general to be honest.

Still fully expecting an Indian victory.

That's why I said India should have aimed for 400 run lead and bat england completely out of the game....now england have a chance to chase this down...this is the flattest pitch I ever saw.

It's not a bad pitch at all, just a bit different. The two teams don't have good spinners to make things happen, imagine if Warne or Murali were playing on it.

In any case, the batsmen deserve a bit of respite in England every now and then.

Any idea why England rolled out a flat pitch considering they won last test match on green pitch?
Indian batsman have weakness for swing bowling and India have Ashwin who would be lethal on this spin wicket.

It's a typical early September wicket for the Oval, not out of character at all.

Oval is generally flattest pitch in England

If England not lose more than one wicket today and score 90 odd runs then they are going to win this test match.

The pitch at the Oval is strongly reputed as very flat all year round. But usually in Test matches there will be a deterioration as the match goes on, and in the last 4-5 sessions then wickets fall more regularly. But this pitch is different because apart from a couple of mild foot holes, it still has the appearance and the consistency of a Day 1 beauty.
