Weather is now a factor though.

That's the unfortunate part. Poor weather really takes the fun out of everything doesn't it? As a neutral fan I hope that whatever happens at least rain should be the victor in the end.

The forecast seems to be bad though, hopefully the weatherman has got it all wrong and tomorrow it's bright and clear. :D

I managed to get in for the last 45 mins play.

Great atmosphere.

And I was part of history - being present for the 1st time in UK during a floodlit test match!!!

There's usually at least one rain-affected draw in a test series, not looking forward to Lords though, Australia usually beat England there.

Australia v England | 1st Test | Cardiff Day 3

First post. Hopefully we can push our lead on and get to something like 600. If North can stick around and MJ, Haddin and the bunnies can add another 150 runs (assuming rain delays) we will have batted ourselves into a draw at least, but we really need a win given how we've dominated this Test to date. Hopefully the Pom Poms stop doing their rain dance and we get a decent amount of play, and hopefully we don't do a Bangladesh and collapse in a heap.

We don't want to bat twice here - but the performance of the batsmen has been heartening.

They let us down in India, Australia and South Africa. But I guess we have to remember that both India (in Indian conditions) and South Africa have far superior bowling attacks to the Poms.

I would expect our bowlers to improve on their first innings showing. Except Horrorwitz who will never improve.

We definitely only want to bat once. I reckon if we can get a leat of 200 we will be in with half a shout. The question will be: if we lose significant time to rain, will Dubya play it safe and make us bat ourselves into an ABSOLUTE no loss position or will he be prepared to gamble a loss to win?

Were it me, I would choose the latter, but then again I'm just a punter and not the Australian captain. And it's easy to make pontifications from the internet when there's no actual pressure on you. I reckon Dubya will want to make the game safe, and I can't blame him for that. It's a five Test series after all. Just a shame as I reckon our young team of useless no hopers (according to everyone) played well enough to win this Test and just need some luck to go our way weather wise.

Both of you are dreaming if you believe Australia is going to win this game.

I have to agree with Saqlain here, its day 4 and there is chance of rain tomorrow

Well we did say that if it rained significantly it would be tough to win. But Australians always think they can win mate, even if it looks impossible (as it does in this case). If you don't at least think you can win then you definitely won't.

forecast is not good at all, 90% chance of rain after lunch for rest of the day, england will survive i think

I cant believe how strong this ozzie side is, underestimated them by quite a bit..

Well we are not as strong as we once were but are other teams improving as much as they need to?

I think rain should ensure a draw unless England collapse in dramatic style tomorrow on par with Pakistan earlier in the week.

Day 4 - its cloudy where I am, but not raining - but there has been lots of rain overnight.

We should definately start on time - but who knows when the heavens will open

You have to laugh at England.

Day 4, they need quick wickets - they have Flintoff in the side and 2 spinners.

So they open the bowling with their 2 wussy seamers instead and give us some free runs...

Is it 'Billy (or Jimmy) the Trumpet' - he's in fine form!

On second thoughts, England could well lose this one if things continue the way they are and there are no or minimal interruptions. Australia could get a lead of 200.

England have dropped their shoulders and looking quite puzzled out there.

Not the most exciting tests at the moment after all the hype and build up not much intensity from England.

this australian attack is,nt adequate enuf to bowl england out cheaply, 2 teams with no quality bowlers

Although we lost that game...somehow, surely the Pakistan vs SL test match was a much better advert for test cricket than this borefest we're watching right here....

I think the ICC would fine the ECB for producing a flat track since now their is a law that pitches must be made to give results not boring draws , :D hopefully the next test would be much more thrilling to watch

We have 3 quality bowlers. And Horrorwitz.

They are all young in Test terms though.

At least they were able to bowl out England , The ever so experienced England attack are struggling to do that

Overall they are two very ordinary sides...but on the evidence of this match so far the aussie bowling attack has looked more potent than the english one. Although that isnt much of an achievement it has to be said.

Ahem which team is number 1 in the world in Test cricket?

The ordinary side?

He's talking about how they are looking in this match , He's telling the truth that these 2 sides are looking veryyyyyy ordinary here .

Broad and flintoff have already brought up their centuries, 5 away for anderson, 2 away for the spinners, who says england can get big scores when they settle in

As I said earlier when Aussie bowlers were struggling to get England tailenders out - this is a flat deck. I expect no result.

Edit: unless that is...England collapse. But I think this will be a draw.

Well I predicted this on thursday before a ball was bowled when every one expected Eng attack to run through this Aus line up.
I said I can see Aus getting 150+ lead with broad going for 100 and probably swann too but there seems a competition here and so far freddie has joined broad but swann and jimmy are trying there best .

Anderson getting some good swing , their might be some hope from this pitch after all ;-)

Yes he is getting good swing......... Of the bat that is.

Their gonna declare at a little above 600 I think , 5 bowlers have bowled more than 30 Overs and have gone for 100 runs each :13: is this a rear feat.

And now jimmy and swanny join the club.
Where is our monty its his turn now.
Great captaincy from strauss he brings on monty that he can achieve his 100 and he does not disappoint.

Look at the bowling figures :))) Everyone has a century :))

Oh man, i love this :D Batsmen getting into ODI/T20 mode :D

cricinfo taking the p now :)))

"169.2
Swann to North, 1 run, and there's Swann's hundred! Magnificent effort from the offspinner "

"Monty, currently on 98. Just two to go to bring up a deserved hundred"

:))

I just don't see why the heck they aren't being able to get a wicket :13: the ball is swinging and spinning....................The English bowlers are making me sick

Haddin just hit a six and closing in on his hundred :D

Oh man, I LOVE THIS :D :D

LoL , This match is going exactly the same way the 1st test between Pak and Sri at Karachi was going.I expect to see a England collapse on day 5 :D

One of the most Over-Hyped teams in any sort of sports on the planet has to be this English Cricket Team.

178.6
Collingwood to Haddin, no run, down the leg side and Prior appeals, appeals, appeals, and appeals some more! Not out, son

:)))

Wow.......That a real good record to be broken.I can see it now , the English papers will be filled with criticism

The first and last Ashes test you'll watch in Sophia Gardens. Make the most of it. :)

Oxy this is a crap pitch!

With Crap and Over-Hyped team bowling on it.

Don't put the whole blame on the pitch , The English bowlers are to be blamed for more then the pitch , they can't do nothing even when the conditions are now favouring swing and spin

Andrew Miller tells us that Australia are getting tantalisingly close to their highest score in Ashes history. They might as well crack on to 730 and declare

A wicket at the cricket

Haddin finally goes - caught by Bopara

Aus: 674-6 [Dec] - Lead is 239

That's the 200-run partnership and what a top effort, it's come from 266 deliveries

disaapointed with the no celebration of wicket. They worked hard for it and changed the match. declaration came

The Captain doesn't care about the Ashes Record afterall :) , good to see that he wants to have all the time he can get to bowl England out.
The conditions are favouring swing and spin so England better keep their heads and play proper cricket or else they'll end up like Pakistan

Weather is good - should hold up for the remainder of the game
