What's new

England v Australia | 4th Test | Headingley | 7-11 Aug 09

1/79, looks like some uneven bounce. We should really get a lead of 200+ here, or preferably only bat once and make them bat last.

Fifty up for Ponting - off 63 balls.

Thats how you respond to the 'boo-boys'

86-1

Pointing has done pretty well at headingly with the bat before and he looks in prime form today!

Current partnership 83 runs, 20.0 overs, RR: 4.15 (Ponting 63, Watson 17)

Currently there are none better than Pointing when it comes to playing against pace.

Harmisson into attack and he is being attacked with 3 fours by Watson. Watson took a rest between fours
Watson 44(60) - Ponting 63(80)
Aus 115-1 after 24 overs - lead of 13

No point bowling short pitched deliveries at Twatson - he eats those for breakfast

And as I type Onions managed to keep one low and Twatson is out for 51. Good cowlashing knock.

The goal should be lose no more than one more wicket before stumps and make sure Dubya is still there.

Ponting 78 LBW Broad
Aus 140-3 after 29 overs - lead of 38

Now Ponting is given LBW - ball hitting leg

Aus 3 down

@#$% Dubya out. That over he seemed to lose concentration. Out for 78

Pup and Huss will have to shepherd us through to stumps. Lots of batting still to come but we don't want to lose another wicket.

@#$% Hussey out for 10. He is so out of form lol. Thank God we have Haddin and North still to come and MJ to cowlash a few.

Maybe another day!

Broad strikes agin - another LBW

Hussey GONE!!

Can't allow England to wrest away the momentum though. FFS Pup and North need to consolidate.

14th wicket to fall today. Geez we've lost our last 3 wickets for 18 runs. We'll definitely have a result one way or another, probably by day 3.

Pup and North need to keep the scoreboard ticking, they can't block like Tavare all the way to stumps.

Geez these guys are either scoring in boundaries or not at all. Why can't they just milk the singles?

I think a 150-200 run lead will be plenty on this wicket.

Are these two planning to block till stumps?

MARCUS NORTH IS THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIS TAVARE

2 off 18

Will Luke has his stats hat on. That's never a good sign. "England have made 102 or fewer in the first innings of a Test and gone on to win four times. The last time was in 1907 against South Africa, and they managed it twice against Australia in the 1800s.

4/178, Pup has decided that Anderson has to go. Pup 21 North 2. This is an epic 2 from North, bringing new meaning to the word "stonewall".

Crowd problem starting with people tossing things in the stand. Some have been taken out already

Clark struck flush on the helmet! OUCH!

He takes the mandatory 10-count

Clarke down after getting hit on the helmet by Harmisson
Aus 185-4 after 44.2 overs

Best sign - when the crowd gets restless it means they've been taken out of the game.

4-185, 9 overs to go. Don't lose another wicket!

Has Asad Rauf just let Clark off the loose?

That looked OUT!

I'm sure he gloved it to Prior

NOT OUT

Harmisson to Clarke - nasty bowl, hit him high, crowd and players expecting Asad Rauf to raise his finger and he says no

Radio saying it hit top of the glove. Boycott not sure and now saying it hit on the elastic of the glove and that is part of the glove

44.5 Harmison to Clarke, no run, bouncer, bouncer, catch that! Fended off something and Prior takes the catch but Rauf is statuesque and immovable, as is his arm! Not out! Replays show that came off his glove, so Australia get a slice of luck this time

DAMN STRAIGHT THAT WAS OUT but we needed some luck to go our way for a change :D

That was out - a few theatrics though from Clark.

Pretending to rub his forearm

HAHA! Clark holding his wrist, which was covered by the glove - and giving it a good rub - because that HURT!!!

North better not get out after this EPIC KNOCK - 3 off 37!

4/196 at stumps, a lead of 94. They should try and push on tomorrow and get a lead of 200+ at least. We need to win this match, not draw it!

I notice the Pom papers are moaning about Prior's "back spasm" injury as one of the main reasons for the Pom collapse. Spare a thought for us - we lost Haddin AFTER the toss last match but we just got on with it!

We shouldn't have let you replace him then ;-)

and England got dominated today because they were rubbish. pure and simple. In order to get back in the series, we need to stop being rubbish. I will never count us completely out of a test match because you never know what England are going to do next, and even if Headingley has gone, there's a whole extra test match yet to be played. I was upset today not gonna lie, but I remain on the optimistic side of our support as usual.

Kudos to your Whippster, that is the key, never give up hope and always believe. England may look out of it, but you just never know with them, as you say and you never seem to know with Australia these days. Tomorrow's days play may well decide the outcome of this Test match.

I think England could still get back in this, but they will have to have a completely dominating day tomorrow..

If Aus get like 300+ then it's game set match really.

Durban 04/05 is allowing me to cling onto a flicker of hope.

England don't have a talisman in their team which they can look up to and then lift their performance in order to come back in the game from such a dire position.

Both their batting and bowling talismen are sitting on the sidelines. I am expecting a short lived fight in some sessions but overall a meek surrender by the English in this test.

i must admi t after being 120/1 then loosing 3 on the trot for 30 runs i thought the aussies were bloody rubbish and thrown away their advantage in this game

i thinjk the game is kind of finely balanced with advantage oz, but i do think the aussies are 1 wkt away from a collapse here

But who is going to score the runs mate..

You don't have a Tresco, Vaughan, Thorpe..

Instead it's Bopara, Bell and Collingwood.

Hardly inspires confidence.

Prior actually is the most impressive bat in the middle order atm..

Seriously does Marcus North think he is Brian Lara or something ??? Looks like a bad try hard out there..

:))) :)))

Great day for us, that's what we needed.

And the great Peter Siddle gets 5/21. RA is happy :D

I'm currently based just down the road from headingley stadium - just woke up to warmth and a beautiful blue sky, seriously not a cloud in the sky...perfect batting day :(

This is embarrassing stuff from England.

You'd think they would know how to bowl at Headingley!

Now Broad is resorting to bowling deliberately wide.

Botham slating them; BBC TMS laying into them!

Still cant understand why Strauss wanted to bat first. . .
This wicket now has become a very good batting track, well it will rain tomorrow so :)

Now why doesnt that surprise me!

Johnson 27 out ct at deep square leg by Bopara off Broad
Aus 393-7 (96.3 ov) - lead of 291
North 94*

96.6 Broad to Siddle, OUT, gone! Siddle departs for a golden duck. Broad aims at the stumps and it takes the top of off, well bowled by Broad, who now has four.
Broad 69-4 - North 95*
Aus 394-8 - lead by 292

North with 2nd 100 of the series. Gets to 100 with a six. He also has 96 in last test
400 also up for Aus

Clark with 2 sixes off Broad. He hit a six in last over too. moves to 28
Aus 434-8 - lead of 332

Stuart Clark hammering ball all round park! Great entertainment!

Clark 32 off 21 balls.

104.1 Broad to North, OUT, that's it, the innings ends with a big slog to deep midwicket, it's taken comfortably and Broad gets six

MJ North c Anderson b Broad 110 (206b 13x4 1x6) SR: 53.39

Aus 445 all out - lead of 343
Tea time

Oh boy , With this new and improved bowling line-up Aus might just dismiss these guys before they get the lead.
