very had job without flintoff and peterson :pissed:

Instead of Harmison there should have been Owais Shah in the squad ....and instead of Swann there should have been Sidebuttom .

It will rain tomorrow and that will have an impact on the match
Not much other than perhaps playing conditions will change and players going on and off. England basically has to survive for 5 sessions to put up a somewhat of a minimum lead (150+). It is still day 2 which has 30 min left

2 players out in last over

22.4 Hilfenhaus to Strauss, OUT, gone! Hilfenhaus gets the first breakthrough with a ball that swings back in to Strauss and strikes him on the back thigh, Asad Rauf has no hesitation in raising his finger.

AJ Strauss lbw b Hilfenhaus 32 (78b 4x4 0x6) SR: 41.02

22.5 Hilfenhaus to Bopara, OUT, two from two! Bopara is gone lbw, Hilfenhaus simply aims at off stump and Asad Rauf gives Bopara out.

RS Bopara lbw b Hilfenhaus 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Eng 58-2 - trail by 285

Bopara is crap, absolute crap. I am certain England can find a better batsman than him at no 3.

Robert Key at no-3 will be awesome :14:

persoanlly i think its a real shame but cant see Bopara back in England colours for a while now

Even though Bells failed this game, I can see the selectors perservering with his selection for the next couple of months

Talk about gifting Australia the ashes!!

the Oval game has taken on a whole different complexion - and how fitting really , for the last game to be the decider - bring it on!

Mitchell Johnson (lf) 7.0 1 16 1 2.28 35 3 0

Johnson's are a lot better than before , The haircut has done the job.

but Jhonson is still spraying it everywhere and in the middle he surprises the batsman

Collingwood out LBW Jhonson - swinging in yorker
Eng 74-4

Night watchman in. Bad move

That was a great inswinger from Johnson. He really set Colly up for that one with the bouncer first up in the previous over.

Then all the deliveries moving away and finally the deadly one coming back in.

Splendid and smart bowling.

England are missing 2 good bats , KP and Flintoff . Seriously ;/ , they have gifted them the ashes.

Cook almost out. edged and drops little short in front of Clarke
Anderson to face M Johnson now - well he is there for that reason as nightwatchman

England :))) :))) :))) :))) :))) :))) the most overated side in cricket.

And just watch...when they lose..Boycott: "It was men against boys..how can you expect England missing Pietersen to play swing"...excuses, excuses.

And Bopara, as much as he has the potential to be a world class number 3 ala Younus...he has serious technical flaws which better teams will (and have) found out. I say bring back Vaughan, or if thats not possible, given Englands current options, play Bell at 3 and debut Trott at 4.

Why does a nightwatchman always get off strike on the first or 2nd ball?

Anderson still on duck. Can he continue his non duck streak. If he does get a single you will hear the cheer

Now I am just LMAO.

This is horrid stuff. What was the point of the nightwatchman?

Eng 5-20 in about last 8 overs
a close shout for LBW against Anderson

30.4 Hilfenhaus to Anderson, no run, huge shout! Enormous lbw shout and that must have been awfully close. The ball is swinging back in and Anderson doesn't offer a shot, the ball takes his pad flap on the way through but it wasn't straightening quite enough.

one over left today

What excatly are England hoping for?? 3 whole days left in the match....they must be thinking rain.

North drops Prior on the last ball of the day by Jhonson
Eng 80-5 - trail by 263

This match should be over before the end of the 1st session tomorrow.

Utter rubbish from the Pommies today.

The Aussies came hard at the English this match. They played with full aggression in batting and bowling unlike England.

absolutely horribly crappy rubbishy poo-pants. worst performance ever, and I've been an England fan for a long time. To even be contemplating an innings loss in a test after 7 sessions is unheard of!

go and slog a few tomorrow and have a week off, then start again at the Oval. the series is still on. Everyone should have an absolute rollocking from someone important, heads should roll and everyone left needs to take a long hard look at themselves.

Well I missed most of today's play as I was out and only managed to watch all the replays now. Superb knocks from Pup and North to really set us up for a big first innings score and then the bowlers, with a huge score to bowl at, responded as England folded under pressure. This was easily MJ's best bowling of the whole series - he's clearly a confidence player and as his confidence has increased so has his bowling.

Having Stu Clark there has really changed the attack's dynamics - Clark's being there has made both Siddle and MJ freer to play their natural games. So what if they spray it around now and then? Stu Clark is now there for Dubya to turn to to keep things tight along with Hilf. MJ bowled a pretty hostile spell today, swinging the ball in late at 90mph.

Clearly this is curtains for England - the only question will be will they hang on till lunch or tea? Clearly they missed Flingtoff's presence as his stats haven't really been all that special, but there was nobody to change the momentum of the game when both Pup and North were making hay and when MJ and Hilf were ripping through their top and middle order. Plus the crowd was out of it for most of the match really.

Bopara has now scored 105 runs in 7 innings to average 15. He's only beating Harmlesson and Full Monty in terms of averages.

Lol Michael Vaughan actually retired for Ravi Bopara. What a waste.

Bopara, Bell, Colly & Prior...

this ought to be the weakest middle order Eng has produced lately and no wonder they crashed heavily...

What a shameful surrender....

B & B are the poor ones, but Colly and Prior have done pretty well I thought

Tomorrow's a more important day that we would think, in the context of the overall series. I think OZ winning this Test, bar weather or acts of God, is a foregone conclusion. What is at stake however is the ubiquitous moral victory - can England hold out past lunch and push the OZ to having to play a third session or (God forbid) a 4th day? That would be an enormous morale boost for the Pommies. On the other hand if they fold quickly it will be hard to take any positives to the Oval.

Just shows how heavily England rely on KP and Flintoff. Without both of them, this English team as bad as it can be.

The end is nigh for the Poms. Much better effort from our blokes all round.

Hussey needs to go though, he is a liability.

Credit to Stuart Broad for perservering and getting rewarded with six wickets.

Yes he bowled defensive rubbish wide outside off stump for a while but he was the only bowler I saw who seemed to have an idea of what they were trying to do out there.

Have never really rated Broad or understood what they see in him but I saw a bit of something yesterday.

Anderson out 2 overs ago.
Betfair have England at 550-1 if you fancy a flutter...no price for Australia.
No refunds on tickets for the day
Eng 105-6 - trail by 239

Hilfenhaus with 4, hope he can get a maiden 5fer. Has bowled really well since coming into the side without much luck.

Agnew just made a good point, it's 1-1 in real terms, kinda 2-2 in terms of each team controlling a drawn test. he reckons if you offered that to England fans 6 weeks ago with the Oval still to come they would have said yes, I would have said yes, thought we'd lose 3-1.

credit to both teams for a good series and let's hope for another Oval nailbiter, whoever takes the Ashes will deserve it

Cant broad and swann bat it out for a few days... Just block the straight ones and leave everything else...

Will the aussies just look to draw at the oval to retain the ashes ??

Here's Siddle, a man with a face that looks as though he's constantly trying to work out what 743 divided by 17 is.

150 up for Eng. Broad 25 - Swann 15

I think we will look to win first, and not lose second.

Broad showing the upper order how to bat as usual, just goes to show this is hardly a minefield that justifies 100 all out. even if Broad and Swann make hundreds we will still be an innings behind though...

Geez there's nothing more annoying than watching tailenders smack it around, especially when it's 7.30 am and you haven't slept and are waiting for your team to wrap it up. :po:

Come on Sid, bowl some bouncers at their body and shake them up! I want to go to bed :po:

OMG MJ dropped Broad at deep mid off!

LOL England going at 9rpo at the moment. They're only 119 behind!

Anyway, I'm going to bed. I'll wake up to see the final score

Duz anyone think that broad and swann can save the match for them ???
no. but they are entertaining the crowd and now only 22 min to lunch

Last 10 ovs 103/0 RR 10.30

we will still lose by an innings. nice to restore some pride though

And as I was about to log off, Broad is caught in the deep. Blofeld sounds so disappointed!

Good knock from Broad though, provided a bit of entertainment for the full house at Headingley today.

one over ago
What is going on out there? Asad and Billy are struggling to count to six. Rauf was about to let Johnson bowl a seventh ball, when finally over was called. We've already had a seven-ball over and a five-ball over today.

last partnership was 108 runs, 12.3 overs, RR: 8.64 (Swann 47, Broad 47)
Swann with a six to reach 50
Eng 238-8 - trail by 105

for a moment there were shades of Headingley 81. Set the Aussies 120 to win and Harmison take 8 wickets :)) haha some hope (of either) (ever happening)

why the talk of changes. what's the point in Key, Ramprakash, how is that looking to the future? If they're really pushing it, Trott might come in for a top order player, but I would be furious to see anything more. Flintoff blatantly comes in for a non-Broad bowler if he's fit, but that's all.

this team got us to 1-1 which is more than we could have hoped for, no reason why they couldn't win the Ashes if you ask me.
