England v India | 3rd Test | The Oval | [9/8/07]

Watching Dravid is sleep-inducing at the best of times, but he looks to be desperately striving for a not out in this innings. Absolutely dreadful. There's playing the anchor, and then there's being an anchor by sticking oneself truly and firmly to one end of the pitch.

Laxman seems to be doing the dravid way of things...but atleast his 5 has come off around 15 balls...thank God...

Dravid was finished about 2 years ago,
This is just dreadful.

Why would anyone try to bat it out in bowling conditions when the opposition is already 400 runs behind?

Dhoni/Laxman...time for fun boys...If dhoni can turn on the style, then its 100% over...

Collingwood has had is averaged decreased by 20 just for getting those two wickets lol!!!

Dhoni MUST get a pinch hundred and Laxman must score 50+ to make the score beyond reach. 600 will be murder for england.

England need 435 now to even win!!!

Ummmm, no we don't. India are effectively 409 for 5 at the moment.....still way out of our reach but not 435.

Dravid's 12 was the slowest in Test history according to BBC.

My bad..but I meant just now if india were bowled out eng would need around 400 to win

What exactly is the plan? Are they playing for a draw? I can understand the declaration because as an Indian Captain I wouldn't have confidence in my bowlers as well.

I would have thought that the best option for India would have been to look for a quick 180 and get England in.

I really hope the bowling conditions disappear and Dravid pays for his mistake.

if india can get between the 150-180 region and england to bat then...

What the hell is their problem?

BOWLING CONDITIONS

400 LEAD

LAST TWO DAYS

They are playing for a draw, what a bunch of pansies

Kinda disappointing captaincy from Dravid. He should have enforced follow-on. I think he didn't want to bat last 2 sessions in this pitch with 180 odd target on board. He seem to have opted a safe way ... disappointing, however weather permitting we should still win this match!

india just need to declare at 150-180....please....just save us the misery

Well, that not enforcing follow-on wasn't a bad idea, but I thoght after they will try to score around 200 runs at 4 - 4.5 average. if they get out for 160 during this course, still pretty good chance for a win. But captain himself was most negative..

I would declare right now! He needs at least 4 sessions.

Terrible captaincy.

What a poor display from India .First thing to do after this series is remove Dravid from captaincy .Pathetic.All those efforts from the bowlers, openers,Dhoni,Kumble had been devalued by Dravid. An embarassing day for the Indians.

Please India, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stop putting me to sleep and DECLARE NOW

Vow, I just logged and see india was batting and the first thought that came into my mind is India back into the defensive mode. Well They played the whole series pretty well and now in the final test, when they were and are still on top, they opted to not enforce follow-on This is simply the height of stupidity. I always thought of Dravid a bit better and aggresive captain, I understand he is a slow and one dimensional but great player but this decision to not enforce follow-on is I guess pretty silly. Com'n you are leading by always 400 runs and there is only 3 and half sessions left and still you are not confident of bowling options on the last day pitch. This is purely a dumb decision on Dravid's part and I feel sorry for indian fans. They would have killed the English team by the end of today's game.

Lead of 475 odd, and Indians still batting. Dravid don't feel 475 is defendable on this pitch :P

Dravid is on the verge of achieving something which no-other Indian skipper did since 21 years. It's evident he prefers 1-0 over 1-1. He wants to make sure they don't concede the lead they took.

Disappointing, but understandable!

How demoralised will the Indian bowlers be from now on?
Their captain doesn't think they can take 10 wickets in two days on a pitch where the lesser bowlers are swinging at will.

Dhoni out ct behind.
before that a great attempt by Andersen to catch him. He ran, dove full length and got the ball but when he landed it popped out. Before that there was another attempt by him where the ball just landed before him

England hasn't scored over 400 hundred this series yet. England needs two big hundreds and couple of fifties which looks very unlikely. If India wins, and most likely they will, they get to #2 spot I think

England need a miracle to even get close to 500!

Its a question of wether india can get 10 wkts now.. england batsmen playing for pride and winter spots now...!

2moz shud be a classic day.. if just if england manage to pull of a miracle and win.. then dravid will be kicking himself!! india need 10 wikets..

Well at least England left suppoters, something to hold on to 2morrow!

No way England will win....its not easy to chase 450 on the final day unless someone scores a brilliantly quick hundred in the first session. They'll do really well to save this game, if they can.

Only way Eng can win if KP go crazy and hit the first double ton in a single session. Not gonna happen but just throw it out.

England shouldn't be thinking about chasing down any target to start the day. The only thing that would even get them remotely close is KP having an amazing day. KP needs to make sure he plays naturally and not defensively. At this point, the best England can hope for is something like 200 required off the last session. Any sort of over-aggressive charge before then would be foolish.

Can England get to 180 by lunch witout loss or maybe just one wicket down. That will be a big factor. I don't see England going for it and India can still get the 10 wickets. There is a higher chance of a collapse, get one out and you will get two more pretty quickly.

No chance of an England win, but we may as well go for it.

What the hell happened to Dravid today? He is one of my favorite players but this is just unacceptable.

Its times like his when they need Trescothick.

Run rate required is just below 5. Tough ask, but i wanna see them go for it to make interesting TV.

There is just one way England can Win this test match. I.e if they bat the same way SA did when Australia scored 434 runs at the wanderers. The approach was simple, they were going to hit each and every ball for six by coming down the track and slogging early in the innings. It worked beautifully and SA just connected with their hits and reached 299 in just 30 overs. From there they batted normally and reached 438. Its a fantasy but i would love to see it work.

what stupidity!!!

It's silly to even compare those two situations. For one thing, THAT WAS AN ODI! That means that if SA couldn't chase down the total, they would lose. Simple as that. That made the decision to go out all guns blazing very simple. Now this is a test match. That means a draw is part of the equation. Going out all guns blazing right away is not a viable option. They should make sure they go out and bat normally for some time and creep themselves closer and closer. Then and only then, if things are going well and wickets are in hand, you can make a judgement call about whether or not it's worth it to go for a win.

England need to put the thought of chasing down the total out of their mind for the first bit. Just bat normally. Only when you feel you are in a decent position can you hope to get a destructive performance from the likes of Kevin Peiterson.

If Dravid didn't want to enforce the follow-on, then why did he bat like a snail ::J

another possibility is another "Oval drama" like last year and India forfeit the match!! then the series is drawn.. :D who can orchestrate the drama? may be Howell? ;-)

draw is not an option in this case either, England need to win to square the series. No difference between 2-0 and 1-0.

Some puzzling tactics from India today but it won't matter if we win tomorrow! let's go jumbo!

Once again Sachin fails when it really matters. Fitting that his last test match innings in England will be a big fat duck!

Why don't you look at it whole career?, and he scored 1 run, not a duck.

His innings in trent bridge and the oval was very, very crucial to India's chances and it proves out to be match winning ones, Sachin will go on a high with a series win.

What happened to Dravid yesterday?.

England will go for anything and they need to, to sqaure this series, today should be a classic.

I expect India to have won the series.

someone has to play a Nathan Astle esque innings for that to happen. can KP do that?

The last time England scored at this sort of run rate over a sustained period that I remember is Edgbaston '05. Run rate was around 5.13. Even a repeat performance wouldn't be enough though - 408 runs. Pietersen and Flintoff put on 103 off 102 balls within that total.

Sreesanth is bowling beautifully this morning; only a matter of time before he picks up a wicket.

60/0
