Hash said:Ummmm, no we don't. India are effectively 409 for 5 at the moment.....still way out of our reach but not 435.
Well, that not enforcing follow-on wasn't a bad idea, but I thoght after they will try to score around 200 runs at 4 - 4.5 average. if they get out for 160 during this course, still pretty good chance for a win. But captain himself was most negative..purplehaze said:Kinda disappointing captaincy from Dravid. He should have enforced follow-on. I think he didn't want to bat last 2 sessions in this pitch with 180 odd target on board. He seem to have opted a safe way ... disappointing, however weather permitting we should still win this match!

what stupidity!!!Savak said:There is just one way England can Win this test match. I.e if they bat the same way SA did when Australia scored 434 runs at the wanderers. The approach was simple, they were going to hit each and every ball for six by coming down the track and slogging early in the innings. It worked beautifully and SA just connected with their hits and reached 299 in just 30 overs. From there they batted normally and reached 438. Its a fantasy but i would love to see it work.
another possibility is another "Oval drama" like last year and India forfeit the match!! then the series is drawn..iafzal said:Only way Eng can win if KP go crazy and hit the first double ton in a single session. Not gonna happen but just throw it out.

It's silly to even compare those two situations. For one thing, THAT WAS AN ODI! That means that if SA couldn't chase down the total, they would lose. Simple as that. That made the decision to go out all guns blazing very simple. Now this is a test match. That means a draw is part of the equation. Going out all guns blazing right away is not a viable option. They should make sure they go out and bat normally for some time and creep themselves closer and closer. Then and only then, if things are going well and wickets are in hand, you can make a judgement call about whether or not it's worth it to go for a win.
England need to put the thought of chasing down the total out of their mind for the first bit. Just bat normally. Only when you feel you are in a decent position can you hope to get a destructive performance from the likes of Kevin Peiterson.

someone has to play a Nathan Astle esque innings for that to happen. can KP do that?Playa said:England will go for anything and they need to to sqaure this series, today should be a classic.
