Superb Effort By Pakistan with the bat after winning the toss, Opening partnership worth 122, Fluent 74 from Kamran, a Nicely constructed 43 from Hafeez, 46 from the experianced Yousuf and an exhillerating half century from the youngster Asad Shafiq, Pakistan Finished with 294/8

But will it be enough i wonder.....

England v Pakistan | 2nd ODI | Leeds | 12/09/10 | Eng Innings

Now then, Pak 294/8 in 50.

Eng need 295 to win.

Bowling needs to be much better than the 1st game

People like Gul especially need to come good here

Afridi and Ajmal too will be required to come good

Mostly overall, need a good all round performance by Pakistan to keep it a tight game here!

They'll either win by 4-5 wickets with an over or so to spare, or will lose by 50+ runs.

Fawad had the second highest strike rate 125%; he made 20 off 16 balls, after Afridi's 150% who only scored 9 runs. Fawad should have come up the order.

Fawad needs to bat ahead of Afridi irrespective of match situation. Lala is simply out of sorts

I'll propose this idea to keep Alam in the ODI squad, how about trying him out as an opener with Kamran perhaps?! He can get the strike rotation going with the nudges needed from 1 guy up the order while the aggressor can move things along at more than run a ball pace!

Hows this for an idea to keep him in the squad?!

He cant open, we need batsmen who have got some power behind them to hit boundaries.

Hafeez did an OK job today, made some runs, not quick as Kami, but did stay out there supporting him.

Main reason why we are 20 runs short here was our lethargic running b/w wickets. Mainly due to Kamran who simply said no to any quick single and Yousuf who is probably too old for it now. Running was at a different level when Umar & Asad were batting together.

Pakistan will this very easily .....

295 nahi bante Angrezo se ...itni achhi uki batting nahi hai.....:)

By proposing that idea, am not taking anything away from Hafeez as I've been a Hafeez supporter when he first came in 2003 more for his fielding and bowling skills as batting he's always under achived in which is a shame really as he does have some shots but needs to work in the nets on keeping his head still and to work it around more!

With Fawad, he's not an attacking option, he can rotate the strike which is not a trade many of our batsmen have, and not all the sides in ODI cricket have 2 attacking openers - I was just trying to present an option to keep Alam in the ODI squad unless he's tried at No.3 or something then!

Could've been 300 but 294/8 is still a great innings.Happy that we've scored some decent runs on this tour for once.

250 in the previous match and now 294,good stuff from the batsmen, just need the bowlers to fire today !

Ok Easa, spill it out here then, whats your take?! :p
It won't be a walk in the park but to suggest that we need 324 to win is too much of an exaggeration. We're playing in England, the outfield is not lightning fast, and we have a good bowling attack - the events of Friday notwithstanding.

I think England will get bundled out for 240 odd but it only takes a couple of good innings for them to take this very close. We'll have to play well.

Alam is fine coming down the order, he can be shifted around if needs be, but he is in the team to keep the scoreboard ticking which he does well.

Hafeez and Kami so far are doing a decent job opening the batting.

I agree Fawad should open, I disagree that opener has to hit out. If he can score at run a ball and there is Akmal on the other side, Fawad can get lazy Akmal to run some quick singles and not just depend on boundaries, FYI Fawad has opened innings and scored a century.

Well, getting 300 has its charm to it like you can say psychological effect on the other team, but one could say it would've been good if we had around 20 more here!

The reason we're 20-30 short is due to the few stops England made despite having a shocker in the field too at times - Pakistan on the other hand would surely have a big job on hand to keep it tight with both ball and in the field to make a good game of this!

Batting hasn't been bad, could've been a bit better with Kami's decision going against us when he was starting to take more chances was the key!

That maiden over played by Hafeez of Anderson I guess stranded us 6 short of 200 :p

However, its a good pitch and unless the England team plays rash shots, I dont see them losing. We just dont have the bowling to bowl them out and Morgan and Co. cant be tamed....

Like I said Atif, have liked Hafeez for sometime even though despite him not batting well and the 18 average in 40 odd games with a SR of 58 doesnt do justice to what he can really be! We can hope he gets a good run and can perform consistently and hopefully it can improve his game in general too!

Fair call about Alam, he keeps the board ticking like I said above too, just that he doesn't get a consistent run at a particular position which can hamper a player's progress in general too!

Ball started to turn at the end of Pakistan innings, if anyone can lose this match for us it is the Pakistan catching and ground fielding.

Fawad came into bat at the time when Pakistan needed to be on the attack, thats why he had the second highest strike rate, plus he did not face too many deliveries.

Alam would be a perfect left handed opener a perfect replacement for L Handed Salman Butt who we will probably never see again.

'If I've got 295 runs on the board, I don't expect to lose' David Lloyd.

Got that bang on. Need to keep it tight early on and shouldn't really lose from here if we keep our heads.

Did you forget the last ODI? He scored at run a ball there too. 39 off 39. His average in 2 ODIs is 59. Now you will say he was not out, but how many in this team have this quality to remain not out.

I can understand Fawad coming out to bat when Pakistan need to rebuild the innings, but today the openers laid a good platform for the middle order batsmen to come out and attack.

Fawad is a very good player, not an "attacking" player.

England run chase will completely depend on their opening partnership ....

I predict if they have 70+ run opening partnership with gud pace ..then they will have chance ...otherwise no chance @ all

You didnt agree to the other one which I had aimed at you! :p

The players are out there in the middle, lets see Pakistan rip through England's batting lineup.

Lol i agreed with some parts :p

Pheeewww :p Atleast me going on about something for once didnt go to waste, Usually I dont get involved in discussions like that! :D

As I said in the start, all it is a mere suggestion, an idea not a definite for me either! :p

Pakistan huddle in the middle, Irfan should sit during the huddle or let them all bring step ladders, he really had to bend down to listen to Afridi's speech.

Akhtar to open the bowling for Pakistan. I smell a wicket in the first over for him.

I just want Shoaib to get that one inswinging yorker that smashes the stumps
