I have a bad feeling about this. The conditions are good for bowling - I hope Butt hasn't pulled a Ponting here and decided that "If we survive the first session, we will have easy batting conditions"

Buttah, odds are we won't survive the first session. I say Farhat fakes an injury in which he has to be lifted off the field - should take 30 minutes or so :)

Edgbaston is usually a great pitch for batting on, England scored over 400 in one day V Aus in 05. 350-400 is required but England will be hoping for an early collapse with overhead condtions.

U mar Amin again. *** he will fail again today. I predict 150 all out Pakistan in the first innings

The first hours play should decide whether Pakistan will get a score of 250 plus.

Lets hope for minimum swing.

Really worried after hearing the picth report and looking at the overcast conditions. Just hope the boys knuckle down and can stick it out in testing cicrcumstances.

On a positive note it's nice to finally see Pakistan batting first for the first time in six months.

yousaf seems to have lost some weight or is it just my eyesight

That kind of rationale is only applicable to 'normal teams'.

With Pakistan, I wouldn't be surprised if we negotiate the first hour comfortably, and then lose wickets in a heap at some other inopportune time of the day :))

I will be keeping a very close eye on Umar Amin's batting performance today

I feel Butt getting a big score today is vital for the new comers' confidence...Imran Farhat has just been lucky to be selected for the next 10 matches due to the second Aussie test.

Bumble ripping into the PCB selectors again over Moyo!

And he's right!

That's why I said 250+, with normal teams you would be looking at 350 is you survive the early stages.

Could you tell me what hes saying exactly?

Damn - Nasser's only '3rd Man' for this test - prefer him commentating

Im expecting alot of arrogant British empire supporters to eat crow at the end of days play.

Why fly this batting genius in from PAk if hes not going to play. If he says he is tired, send him back. Only 2 test left, its not like they are playing a 7 test series.

10.45 Ian Botham and Shane Warne in their pitch report suggest that the pitch is a little soft and while it will be slow, there should be plenty of chance for seam movement.
cricinfo

Rameez somewhat belatedly sticks up for Pakistan towards the end !

A total experience of only 116 test matches throughout the team :/ :(

Didn't Broad get a 8-for on this very ground not long ago? :42:

Salman Butt blazes to a 100 off 50 balls.

What swing ? :26:

Love it when the Eng team come out to 'Jerusalem'

Batting first is a good decision, as it gives our bowlers a bit more of a rest.

Pakistan should aim for 350, which I think is the most that we can expect from this batting lineup.

If we can survive that first session somewhat unscathed then we have a chance.

Match lost! Let's be realistic....just hope this is one big lesson for everyone

350 ?

I would be taking rest of the week off, if they make 300 :26:

You do know that 350 runs mean game over for England?

Steve Davis and Marais Erasmus standing as umprires on the field.

England should be batting after Tea if Pakistan bat they way they normally do.

Pak 146 All out , England 112/3 at close is my prediction for today!

The Umpires are the world famous....Marais Erasmus and Steve Davis ?

ohh well.... the ball is moving... and Farhat is on borrowed time.... Eng going for lbw review

Ball came back a long way!

They need to attack, defense will screw them over

Thats what I have been saying all along! They hurried to get him to England and than he just said he was 'tired'! If Pakistan lose today they will not be able to win the series!

What an optimist you are...huh...

poor start for England with the review hope the trend continues :)
