What's new

England v Pakistan | 2nd Test | Manchester | Jul 23-26, 2016 | Day 2

Better from Shaan, though the ball isn't nipping around as much as it was in the previous overs.

This is a batsman's paradise, if Jimmy isn't 100% fit, it will find him out.

Pak must put all energy into getting a decent start, batting will get easier with the older ball.

All we have to do is not throw away wickets, wallop the bad balls to the boundary, leave the good balls and rotate the strike. I think the game will go to a draw.

Tentative start by both, really hoping Shan can get a score here. No hope from Hafeez

Congratulation to Hafeez and Massod to survive first 5 overs of Jimmi and Broad. Now try next 5 overs if its not too much to ask

The danger ball for Hafeez is the lifter outside off. He has a habit of chasing balls lifting off a shortish length.

I don't understand the logic behind selection of shan masood.. He is a proper definition of mediocrity..

You can't take it to the bank but Hafeez is moving well today. Mamoon will show up to anoint his greatness once he gets to 50

It's such an easy day. No seam movement off the pitch. But he keeps defending balls on fifth and even sixth stump.

Shabash professer bhai, Hafeez batting 60-80 overs will take us close to a draw because once set he switches gears nicely

So what, Kohli does that all the time on the 95% flat pitches he plays on

Boys I am telling you, if Masood and Hafeez Survive another set of 5 overs... They'll both go and score tons on this track

Shan beware bomimg inswinger coming now

Shan has adapted well after early struggle, fingers crossed he'll survive

Purely from a team spirit point of view I want this opening partnership to do well

I have a question: is this pitch flatter than Abu Dhabi or about the same

This is the real test for Shan; ball angled in from round the wicket and then swinging away.

If Shan keeps putting pressure on Hafeez by blocking everything Hafeez will get out.

Hafeez hasn't faced a ball from Anderson. He will probably run out Masood now if he tries to take a single.

The cricinfo commentary team is describing a slightly different match where these bowlers are looking threatening

Broad trying to mess with hafeez's footwork with the short balls

Personally speaking I don't think the England bowlers have been patient enough: maybe they also realize it's a flat pitch
