What's new

England v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Birmingham | Aug 3-7, 2016 | Day 4

Pitch is too flat for a victory, If Pakistan are bowled out on this pitch in under a day then It would be a national embarrassment.

no demons apart from what Pakistan make for themselves all they need is to play first 20 overs with control.

Omg, Eng going crazy.... Bowlers need to buckle down here. No reason we should be leaking these many runs so easily.

this is why we needed to make 500 in our first innings.

Sohail khan is rubbish. Kucky fifer in the first innings. Cant do anything once the ball isnt new and fitness wise not suited for Test cricket.

Cook wont declare before th lead is 350, which will be around an hour into the 5th day. Pak shouldn't be bowled out in 75 overs on this pitch.

They are just gonna slog now and say 15 overs tomorrow and give Pakistan 350 to chase in around 70-75 overs. Pakistan might be in trouble then if early wickets fall.

Looks like, Cook'll give PAK to chase 320 in about 80 overs, or may be 85 overs, so that he has 5 overs with 2nd ball.

Good Test wicket, but they just kept slightly more moisture which actually is bonding the surface even on Day 4. But, without that moisture, ENG won't have been 155/5 on Day 1.

Teams that are dominant with 4 bowler Strategy (AUS, IND), in such situation, actually takes the game away on 1st innings. PAK playing with 4 Bowler strategy + MoHa; therefore ..... you know.

If both sides go to Oval 1-1, which is most likely; I would say PAK would do smart picking Imran & Wahab for MoHa & Sohail. The amount of work load that Aamir & Rahat has gone so far (not to mention Yasir - he is struggling here, because Misbah has over used him with newish ball & on Day 1/2, Poms have got a better look at him at his vulnerable time), I won't be surprised if one of then breaks down at Oval for another 50 overs load.

In that case, 11 batsmen won't save PAK.

Misbah and YK will be the key wickets if Pak are going to save this Test tomorrow. Only these 2 can handle the pressure.

50 for JB, and almost any chance of Pak winning gone with it. Please defend here team green!! We need to control the run flow. Have to make sure Eng bat at least a bit tomorrow morning.

Its a pre season friendly. Calm down. Real stuff starts next week. I have hardly paid attention to any pre season friendly matches.

Who would win in Oval?

Pakistan haven't lost there since 1967.

However current bowling isn't up to the mark but strengths are strengths (Oval being Pak's strength). England looked screwed in their fortress Edgbaston at one time but have came back and look front runners now.

What do you think of Pak's chances?

Waisay this may sound as a knee jerk response, but these are the kinds of situations where we absolutely need an enforcer or someone who's good with the old ball.

So we are officially the worst tail in the world. Ain't surprised a bit.

When the contribution of top 6 of opposition batsmen are 66, 54, 62, 42,28,50* and 18* in 3rd innings of a test match it sends out a message-Englishmen's spirit are high and they are ready for the challenge. This performance is enough to demoralize Pakistan.

Any suggestions

Simple - preserve National Treasure at Museum & play 4 pacers. That'll help boasting bating as well (all 4 bowlers have broken duck here, I am sure 5th one would do as well) & would solve the status co in field - after all, fielding at 1st slip is a status symbol, you need to be blessed in all facets to stand there, more than your catching ability.

Need a 5th bowling option so badly in situations like this.

Shouldn't be too despondent about chasing a high-ish target.

We've chased 377 in Pallekele last year and 300+ in Sharjah the year before.

This is a flat wicket and more sunshine expected tomorrow, pitch isn't expected to deteriorate so our batsmen should just look to knuckle down.

bit of a difference between eng and lanka bowling attacks

Amir bowling in a different league. Eng scoring almost 6 an over last 10 overs, he comes in and only 2 runs. Just need a few tight overs right here. Cook is defensive, no chance to declare prior to 300

Bairstow taking away the game from Pak. They would be eyeing for 325 lead and declare it. Pak won't go for the target. This will be a fun game if Cook becomes a captain like Clarke for once.

I think we better include a proper batsman in his place rather than going for 5 bowlers.
Yasir Shah should be able to do well in oval.

This is what happens when you let the game drift after getting 2 wickets in 20 mins this morning. Could have easy put Vince under pressure since he's playing for his place in the team.

Huge difference in bowling quality though.

No way will we play 5 actual bowlers. One will have to be an all rounder

Younis has to step up in the 4th innings.

give azhar a few overs. Yasir has been rubbish in the last few overs.

Blaming yasir is not fair. Poor guy bowling so many overs. Poor selection for bowling resources you have to play 5 bowlers next game. Iftikhar comes in for hafeez. I feel for yasir no chance for a breather he is human after all. He needs to be used effectively and efficiently. Cant be work horse misbah killed his game in last 2 tes matches. Shoud have given a support to him.

And he gives away 6 runs the next over. Stop hyping too much even in the first he bowled balls which could be put away

In a day?

This is what England was planning for whole day. Stumbled in between but came back well.

12 overs to go.

5 rpo will give them a lead of 300.

They will probably play 5 overs tomorrow and get a 330 lead and insert Pakistan to chase 330 in 85 overs at an req rpo of 3.88
