This was Australia's chance, England are slow starters normally but seems like they have missed thier chance

how is steve smith a test player? can somebody plz tell me? and cowan? lol.ever heard of a leave?

telling you all Steve Smith will show the selectors how silly they were to drop him in the first place.

The lack of Broad may come to hurt us. Who do we bowl next? Trott as first change? Or Swann for lack of options? On day 1 at TB with the ball swinging? Woeful.

Anderson can do maybe 8 overs at once, so we can bowl Swann at the other end after this Finn over. Then rotate Trott in for a couple overs, follow it up with another burst from Finn. End play. Then hope things go down fast tomorrow.

Swanny and Root?

Around 15 overs to go so could try a bit of spin and give the quicks a breather and have a final dash after.

Two offspinners on day 1 of a TB match with the ball about 13/14 overs old?

I feel sick thinking about how monumental a waste that is.

Rogers is a leftie won't be that much of a waste. No use in running the quicks to the ground. Better off giving them a bit of a breather and then have a quick dash.

DRS is still so confusing.

I understand that is there to favour the umpires, buts it rather silly that if the umpire gave that not out that would have stayed not out

It should be that atleast half the ball needs to hit the stumps or something otherwise benefit of the doubt to the batsman atleast that way its consistent and out is out and not out is not out, and does not change based on what the umpire has called

This is why umps call is just rubbish. With the Strac one more of the ball was hitting the stumps yet this is out and that not out. Makes no sense.

Come on England, they're on the run! One more tonight!

Jimmy needs to be taken off after this over. Can't risk an injury now.

Yeah with the way it is now it's neither consistent nor accurate.

agreed its so silly

Everything the same the system should be consistent in what it give out and not out.

Though the arguement is that it is there to replace howlers and not the umpires.

yep it should be simple.

If the more than half the ball has pitched outside leg stump its out its pitched outside leg.

If more than half the ball hits the stumps than its hitting otherwise its a miss

simple. consistent

or if they want to favour the bowler a bit than it should be

any part of the ball hits the stumps its then in favour of the bowlers.

Just decide on it and live with it

That delivery from Jimmy to dismiss Clarke was probably the ball of 2013

what a beauty that was

Seriously, take Anderson off. 9 overs on the trot for a pacer is a nightmare.

Cheers to that :asadrauf

Smith has been impressive

He has been ok. Looks impressive to you because he belongs to a lineup on nobodies (minus Clarke).

He's going to hit a 30-40 in between, but overall - Smith will be exposed badly in this series.

What absurd logic is that?

If it hits a stump, it hits it!

Whatta day of Test cricket. There's nothing else like it.

Smith looking like the best Aussie bat by quite a margin, not sure if that's a good thing though.

Aus trail by 140 odd now. Batting should get easier tomorrow so if these 2 can just hang in there today putting up somewhere around 200 at least or even going past Eng's score should not be out of the equation.

Test cricket at it's best.. Australia just doesn't need to loose a wicket now

Looks like the last over of the day. And whatta day it has been.

Well that's it then. Great day of Test cricket that. Later peeps.

Wow, great days play. Reminded me almost of 2005 first Ashes test, with all the action (only difference a slower pitch this time so less brutal bumpers).

Praying for a sunny day to bat in tomorrow.
