What's new

England (465 & 373/5) cruise to a comfortable 5-wicket win over India (471 & 364) in the opening Test of the series

Kl played quite well.Atherton have praised hom a lot. The never ending up and down bounce will suck a batter so easily. It can hit a bat handle and get any batter for easy catch.there is lot of rough on leg side. Jadeja should use it for tying down bazballers and should not give freebies. Bumrah will be quite a fun from that end.
People here don't understand cricket... The batters (including English batsmen) have succeeded on this pitch only because they tried to attack and keep the scoreboard moving... (measured aggression) If they try to defend too much here (like Pujara for instance) you are lifting the confidence of the bowler and bowler can work out line & length and get the batsmen out easily (in fact induce a collapse...)

Since runs have been scored at good rate people are thinking that this is flat pitch... But they have to see the replays of dismissals, those are genuine wickets earned by bowlers by bowling good line & length (and some purchase from wicket)... It is not that batsmen have thrown their wickets...

In fact with some more good bowlers in either teams (Bumrah with peak Shami or Ishant accompanying) we would have seen different results with the ball... (OR if peak Australian/SA attack bowl on this)

One of the most boring test matches of all time, I aint watching this test series until I see improvement in pitches.

This is a bit silly. India should only be facing 15 more overs for maybe 80 runs. We can't let this drift away.

India are going slow. Give 40 mins crack to England bowlers rather than blocking and playing for draw.

I still believe Pant is a hack against good bowling on spicy pitches.

It is just that he is facing some English inexperienced rookies on a very flat surface. So, he is having a good time. :inti

What would you call his Gabba and Sydney test innings then? Was that an inexperienced bowling attack too?

Pictures were not the reason Ajmal , Hasnain, Hafeez were to be chuckers
They were tested.Bumrah should also be tested. He looks like a chucker. It is best to have him tested under lab conditions. The technology is very good now.We will know either way.

Poor play from Nair here. Needs to go for quick 50 runs here and not simply bat out time.

They should be smacking the ball right now.

“Hit out or Get out” felt so good to say that lol

Amla has plenty of tough runs in the test format.
Yeah test, he was fine. He was very much underwhelming in odis especially crunch situations with that much talent. Feasting on Indian spinners for 500 runs on spinning tracks and messing in 2011 wc nz qf was not digestible for me.

He was praised by none other than Holding & Bishop btw besides Aussies in last Test series . Read Finn's article on him in BBC Cricket .
332/4

England better produce some sporting pitches from Test #2.

This pitch has been way too flat. Comment from Cricinfo: :inti

It's unfortunate as Al Amin Hossain was reported only because he wasn't from India.

He wasn't that great in limited overs. Plenty of soft runs in ODI. He lacked ability to change gears.

But in test, he has lots of fantastic knocks in many venues.

Aim should be to give English team 1 hour at least before the close of day’s play but Nair seems to be leaving in his own world.

Never is a stretch.
But there’s obviously a reason why Sangakkara is not counted amongst Tendulkar, Lara, Richards despite the stats that he has.
As far as I remember he never did much against a tough opponent in away test series. 35 avg in sa , India and 41 in eng.lots of 50s but no impactful innings to turn around the match.

Karun nair should not bat at 3 at any cost.guy looks lost against quality pace and will be tied down completely like pujara.

Even if he takes 3 wickets he will rattle England.

India will win this test series 3-2
Except 2011, India has started well in ever away English test series since 2007, and lost.(one draw)

While we always play way better than England does in India, I would reserve my judgement after 3rd test.

With rain pretty much all day tomorrow, India is happy to play out for a draw.

How many overs have been lost in this test already for bad light and rain in these 4 days?

I will be shocked if India win series with the way Indian bowlers are bowling apart from Bumrah.
We shall see but the difference is both bowling attacks are god damn dreadful. Unless its a testing wicket batters will score.

But bumrah is the difference maker. England would have gotten a 100+ lead if not for bumrah granted Brooks and Jamie smith had a brain fade.

Oh, if that's the case then hardly matters who plays how.

Nair is a poor batsman. No wonder he was dropped for 7-8 years.

This test match was lame. Horrible start to the series.

Since bumrah will be absent for 2 matches itll be an utter snooze fest in thise 2 games

No we are here to win the test ,not playing for draw . Rain aa jaye wo bat alag hai. :kp

Agree.

It has been a terrible Test due to the flat nature of the pitch.

Flat pitches are always bad for Test.
Tbf gotta give credit to the indian team where its due. They seem more relaxed and more professional under Gill.

Goes to show how much kohli was ruining the side attitude wise. Only siraj is an issue and should be kicked. Biggest brat of all time

If India bat through the day, this is a draw or an Indian win.

I don't see England chasing down 400 in a day. Even with Bazball.

This should put an end to Shardul's role in Indian cricket. He was decent like 8 yrs ago. Now he is useless.

Indian tail in this match starts from Karun Nair and I was right all along.

Gambhir was implying not so long ago that Thakur's career is over. How come this renewed trust in his non existent abilities has popped up?

I am surprised India haven't declared yet. :inti

Leading by 357 runs.

Looks like they are not confident in defending 350. :inti
