Discuss Day 3 here.

Can India hope to get close to England's total?

I'd be surprised if we make it through till the second new ball. Another 40-50 odd is the most I expect from the remaining players.

What was the necessity to play Vihari if he bowled just 1 over? They could have instead played Nair who had the confidence of playing well against England at home (though there is lot of difference between that)

Tail has been the major difference in this series. It is to be seen how India's tail performs in this match. Till now, they have been mostly useless.

Its funny how guys like Nair (who scored a triple hundred) get limited chances but golden boys like Pandya get endless number of chances. I am sure Vihari will be discarded too if he fails in one series.

Jadeja getting useful runs. Ashwin unfortunately was a flop with the bat as well.

Jadeja should have played more tests in this series. He could have played in place of Pandya who only had one good inning and one good bowling performance to show after 8 innings.

England have played 2 spinners for most of the series . Don't understand why India wouldn't want Jadeja and Ashwin bowling in tandom. They feed of each other. Jadeja should have played more.

Jadeja and Vihari are already looking 10 times better than useless Pandaya.

I honestly do not understand how does rashid play tests. He hardly bowls on the wicket and ends up full-tossing. What a waste of space

England's performances are really hopeless. Its one or 2 sessions India played poor and England took advantage of that. India should have won the series.

Telugu 'bidda' Vihari showing 'em how it should be done. I wonder why a guy with a FC average of 59 has been kept in the stables for so long. But better late than never.

I hope the other Telugu 'bidda' with the 50+ average in ODIs, Ambati Rayudu, makes history in the Asia cup.

You've got to have it in you if you come from the same stable as VVS and Azhar.

Vihari set for a ticket to Australia. Pandya should be there in the squad as well.

Ashwin/Jadeja to battle for one spot i.e. 8.

Rashid is a luxury player. He bowls like 10 overs an innings and bats at number 8. Almost as much of a passenger as Pandya.

Vihari looks like a good find. Has good temperament to grind it out. More than Rahane has showed. Who cares if Karun Nair was in the squad. If management decide Vihari looks the better player in the nets, and that he is more capable of dealing with the conditions, then play him. No obligation to play someone just because they have been in the squad longer.

Fancy Curran to get a wicket though...always seems to make something happen. Has something about him.

The way Rahane is playing and his record in India I think I can see both Nair and Vihari in the team.

Well done Moeen, extremely important breakthrough against the run of play.

Well played also to the young Indian lad in his debut Test, in difficult conditions.

England need wickets fast

240/7 at Lunch

Not 100% convinced that was out, although once the umpire has given it, its difficult to overturn without 'conclusive evidence'.

Personally, think that the bat and pad made contact at the same time the ball and bat were close together, or maybe made contact.

Under normal circumstances, if the umpire were to make a judgement purely based of the video replays, I would have thought the benefit of the doubt should go to the batsmen.

That reminds me, what happened to hotspot. That's something which would definitively be able to clear that up.

They are 90 odd ahead, on a pitch which has already begun to wear.
They are well on top. Would be a happy man if I were in the England camp, no need to panic.

Should think India will fold for around 260/270 max. After Jadeja, the other three are pretty ordinary.

England nailed on to make it 4-1.

Vihari on his debut has shown more grit and confidence than the poster boy KL Rahul and overhyped Pant in England. Fantastic 50 despite his initial struggle. I so wish we had given a chance to Shaw in place of Dhawan. Kudos to you Vihari for showing these mediocre players how it's done. A tight slap on selectors faces for ignoring young talent and sticking to tested failures like Rahane, Rahul and aswhin in overseas conditions.

Harsh playing an 18 year old and making him open in these conditions. If you want him to succeed and build up confidence, you would play him on pitches where he has a greater chance of success straight away.

Could have played him at no.6 instead of Vihari - that way would have got a soft start, before potentially being able to experience the new ball against Broad and Anderson.

To be fair to KL, while he played poor initially he did improve over the course of the series.

But he has also received 3-4 absolute peaches in the last 3 matches. Like the Curran delivery in this innings and the Broad's delivery in 2nd innings at Southhampton that didn't bounce even 1 foot and went under the bat to crash into the stumps.

I agree with Sam Curran's delivery, what about other 8 dismissals in this series? I was super excited about his England series and with that T20 Century I thought he stamped his mark, but alas! His failures in LOIs and Tests in England made it evident that he's not working hard to correct his technical flaws. Heck, he's turned into a terrible disappointment. Lost faith completely.

Packed stadium...not a single empty seat. I thought there are less ticket sells for this series?

It is an inning which Ashwin should have played when the series was alive.

Jadeja should come at no. 4. He is the 2nd best batsman after Kohli.

jadeja would right now be like... "whats the big dead about batting in England verses Anderson and Broad?" :sarf

Poor captaincy from Root. Should be trying to get Jadeja out instead of giving him singles which he won't take early in the over.

Sick of this type of approach from modern skippers. Should be trying to get both batsmen out at all times.

Jadeja is anytime better than Panda :dw

He is 10x Pandya ...
I was very surprised when I didn't saw his name in playing 11 in the first test.
Never thought Kohli is dumb enough to drop our best all-rounder for Pandya. He proved me wrong.

Rashid shouldn't be selected for the Sri Lanka test series. He's not a test spinner.

Why not try to get both batsmen out? Jadeja is not Bradman and if you bowl to get him out he will get out.

Is Jadeja in Asia cup squad? If he is we better watch out

No. I have been saying for months that he should be brought back to the ODI squad.

Jadeja suffered such consequence because of Ashwin's poor display. Management clubbed them both together and left them out.

England wanted Bumrah to be in strike, and when he was they hardly threatened him.

Poor captaincy from Root. Should be looking to get both batsmen out as I mentioned above.

Poor cricket from Bumrah...should have been alert to the single.

Also, if Jadeja can get runs on this pitch, then chances are its okay to bat on

Batted Jadeja.

Here comes Chef for his final innings. Quite a bit to do to win this match.

Cook final innings. It will be emotionall of course but England have work to do to win the game so they need a big knock here from him or someone else.

Eng will win this. They just need to put 200+. Indians may not be bale to chase 250 runs here.

Exceptional by Jadeja to cut the deficit the way he did, now England have it tough. If they can't get another 250-300 on the board they will be in serious trouble.

Jennings is struggling in familiar conditions. Can't see him doing much against Herath,Dilruwan, and Danajaya.

Indian seamers will get tired the longer they are out there. A good platform will give the English middle order a chance to get England into a match winning position.

Shastri and Kohli have thrown away the best chance India ever had to win in South Africa and England. Kohli is 29, how fit will he be for the next tour to England and South Africa anyway? Not many batsmen keep their reflexes into their 30's.

Similarly Pujara and Rahane are hardly young

Don't think I ever ever seen a bowler beat the bat so many times in a match without getting a single wicket. Shami must be feeling like the unluckiest man on earth right now.

Pant isn't looking good behind the stumps .havent seen such worst keeper for long now Umar Akmal is better . Kohli also losing patience now with him

Both reviews spunked by India. Really poor.

Kohli is officially the dumbest man to lead India in test. Lost 2 reviews inside 10 overs, both deliveries were impact outside off.

Both openers playing their last match, And I guess both know it as well. Utter mediocrity is this Jennings

2 brand new openers for Sri Lanka please.

Possibly Ian Bell and a newbie.

Typical Cook knock so far. Setting a platform for the middle order to take advantage of.

Jadeja's innings has put breaks on ENG innings, other wise if the lead was around 100, ENG would have more aggressive and by now almost out of reach.

Chance for Moen to cement his slot at 3. Think he will bat 3 vs Sri Lanka
