What's new

England vs Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's, London | May 24-28, 2018 | Day 2 | Match Thread

Wasim be like:

"Good weather. Good pitch, something for everyone. Bowlers will get wickets if they hit right areas, and batsman will score runs if they settle in. Good job by groundsman. Reading score of the scorecard. Mandatory praise for Pakistan batsman. Mandatory other obvious details until next over"

I like Wasim a lot as a cricketer and and as an individual off the field.

But God his commentary is very cringeworthy.

Ramiz as annoying as is is comfortably better, even Waqar is a level up.

Naseer and Athers are brilliant. When Wasim is with them, they make him talk about bowling and strategies. Which makes him worth listening. On his own, "the sky is blue, the grass is green, and this is a Test Match".

Would have though Bess would be in for a long spell till the new ball so need to play him carefully and not be too reckless.

Lol, true story.

Azhar Ali apparantly has the highest average for an opener since 2000 after Matthew Hayden (minumum 20 innings). Averages higher than Hayden as opener away from home. And here on PP we have posters crying about his style of play and asking for him to be dropped lulz.

Come on Asad! Get your name on that board. Missed out by 25 runs last time around.

"Great innings when Pakistan was under pressure."- Wasim

Lol? really? Pak has never been under pressue so far.

Bazid Khan is the best Pakistani commentator in terms of critical analysis, knowledge and domestic know how

my apologies shafiq

now make that 100 and get a lead
hopefully babar bats and doesn't get out cheaply

He has very decent knowledge obviously but a commentary box is definitely a no.

He’s done it for a few years and he’s not got better.

Waqar is still better. I have heard him commenting on Pakistan vs Australia/NZ series. And he was top notch!

Well Played Asad, got runs at lords last time but a big 100 is needed here.

Next tour of the UK, can we have 3 tests against Ireland and 1 against Eng please?

He is top notch if you can look past the lack of regard for tenses

not the greatest batting line up
collapsed against Ireland
playing against Broad & Anderson in England

:)) Pakistanis would never be happy with anyone or anything.

The only issue Azhar has is that he takes awfully long to get himself in and when you expect him to get a big one he gets out.

50 off 150+ balls is not sufficient enough, you have to make it big with a 100+ score at least.

6 more runs and then we are in positive territory.

Just watched this over from Bess. How is this guy a test spinner? he's like a right handed imad wasim . . a darter! Obviously, I haven't seen him before but just going by that last over

he's never played at Lords..ever..thats how new he is..

I really like some of the Aussie commentators. Dean Jones and Slater are great. Lawry was GOAT

I know Wood got the wicket but England missing Chris Woakes here

Good going by Shafiq, now he needs to maintain concentration.

As I said earlier, at least one batsman has to go big with some supporting knocks.

At Edgbaston we had a lead of 103 and it got wiped out in no time so a lead of 150 should be the aim.

Ive been one of his biggest supporters on PP and of shafiq..ignore the haters..they have no idea about cricket and should simply watch gully cricket..

Anybody else miss Tony Grieg?

Robin Jackman and Mike Haysman are two Saffer commies that I like

Maybe its my nostalgia speaking. These days we have Mel Jones

Nice shot from Babar, Confidence beginning to build and flow.

we really have to go big..any lead of less than 150 is not good enough inmho..we need to try and bat all today and most of tomorrow to just put immense pressure on England..tired of seeing us get paltry leads that get wiped out and we hear botha etc lauding their team as if their world class..

Drinks time... the post-drinks overs are the most trickiest for batsman as they might suffer from a lapse in concentration

Yes. Psychologically teams approach a lead under 100 differently than one which is 150+

Good 1st hour of 2nd session, aim to get to tea now with these two in tact.

Leads? Lol. Just look to cat big and bat once. Grind these bowlers to dust. They should target something like 500 and flatten England completely.

15 overs to new ball. Need to be at 230 atleast

I have seen asad shafiq play with intent between 68 to 74 usually.. today he is already playing with some.. we just want him at the crease for things to happen

Really enjoying this test match so far

This is the time for Babar

Lead is 4 runs.. another 146 on top of that would be nice.

If a wicket falls now (God forbid) I wouldn't mind pushing Fahim or Hasan up the order and asked to go hell to leather before the second new ball hits. Might be a bit out of the box but if it comes off then it would really set England back. Also if England panic against the onslaught they might bring back Broad and/or Anderson who won't be fresh enough when the new ball is taken.

England trying to save runs instead of trying to get us out. Negative round the wicket bowling at the body of these batsman, taking lbw & other modes to get out, out of equation.

These negative tactics by England reminds me of time when Srilanka played against us in UAE, where we had to score 300+ runs in limited overs in last session of the test match.

Why stop there? Bat until lunch 3rd day and aim for 800/9d!! Ask Hasan Ali to hit nothing but sixes!

Wasim is great when he's talking technical, or reminiscing old stories... so as the colour guy

He's terrible as the play-by-play guy "Shafig has 11 fifties, 6 centures, in 60 matches, and today SR of 60 off 87 balls, average of 40, 48 more runs to century, and its 170 for 3"

Pakistan batting sensibly and according to the match situation, who would have thunk? Is it due to Misbah's legacy? Or is a the Mickey Arthur effect? Maybe a bit of both but really loving this.

If your lineup has the ability to do that then they should bat all day today and tomorrow. This test is only in its fifth session and the batters aren't exactly under any pressure.

Asad scoring 4 runs off pacer at one end. Babar blocking a maiden off a spinner at one end.

The only reason I want Bobs to score runs is that we can bury that garbage comparison thread with that unknown Indian bat..... right now the only reasoning the Indians have is that guy has a better average than Babar in tests. Bobby wipes the floor with him in the other two formats.

The only reason :danish

Can start to see confidence really build in Babar, he needs to cash in and make this an arrival inns interms of test cricket and get something big.

Asad's always been technically sound, more so than Azhar. But he needed to be played up the order for him to step up to responsibility. Keeping him around at 6 he was never going to do that.

He has a 90* in worse conditions in NZ when everybody else was falling around him. His arrival was never in question, but his consistency in the format.

I am however quite surprised by Babar. Is doing really well.

This is where I would have liked someone like Fakhar coming in next. Could have really buried England in the ground.

Don't think his defensive technique is good as Azhar's.

But yea he plays the attacking shots much better.

Today was a perfect situation for him to come in. 87/2 in 37th over. Not a lot of wickets and old ball.

Now imagine Azhar comes in in that situation. He would have half the runs that Asad has scored.

10 overs to new ball. Ideally want 30-40 more runs with no loss of wicket. Ya Allah please

Still Babar defintely should change his technique. He doesn’t have the Kohli flair in him. He needs to bat MUCH faster.

Maybe Babar should learn from his cousins...

Kamran Akmal has a Test SR of 63
Umar Akmal has a Test SR of 67

And both of them played like 10 years ago. Babar is really behind them with his 45.

He doesn't play the new ball as well as Azhar. However Asad's better against spin, decent against pace, with a wider array of shots.

People still crying about Babar. Hilarious :))) Both these guys are batting brilliantly. Let’s hope this continues
