What's new

England vs Pakistan | 3rd Test | Southampton | Aug 21-25, 2020 | Day 1

Surely its the quality of the batters or the pitch if they are easily facing him..what would our batters do.is the question

Poor batting by Sibley. All he needed to do was hold one end and let Crawley continue to find gaps.

Yasir has found some drift . . that's why he got this wicket!

According to Mamoon this is eng best opening since strauss and cook, lmao what a joke.

Been saying Sibley is Azhar Ali 2.0

England need better openers. These two are rubbish. Will score 3 times out of 10 but largely won't.

Would take Yasir off here. I know he got the wicket but he will allow root to settle with his inconsistent line

There cant be better role model than steyn for naseem. Similar height, pace and rhythmical action. But not enought movement. He must learn to bowl out swingers with occasional nip backers.
Right now he looks short on confidence as well

They dont have better openers. Sibley was one of the top performers in FC cricket.

but he actually is. the openers between burns-sibley and cook-strauss were incredibly poor. Sibley is much better than all those openers, shows how poor they were

Both are better than the dozen openers they tried after Strauss’ retirement.

Yasir has beetnhe best bowler this tour and Naseem the worst for Pakistan going by the numbers. Not going according to the expected script at all.

Yes they have had a poor series against pakistan. But they are much better than the openers eng have tried. Burns is the first opener to reach 1000 test runs after cook and scored vs cummins hazlewood.. Sibley and Burns survived some lethal opening spells against west indies. They are just going through a rough patch. But they will bounce back

Well, we had to have a good batting day at some point . . unfortunate that it comes through with England batting!

But these are the kinds of days where a bowling group grows . . test of temperament!

All the conversations around Shaheen being useless or Naseem being useless! Garbage! They are extremely inexperienced very young bowlers in their early 20s . . The world is recognizing their talent! Other option is to go back to Wahab Riaz and Sohail Khan and Rahat Ali . . well, they weren't tearing apart batting line ups either! So, this is the best we've got!

Shaheen is clearly extremely talented and is growing all the time . . has to work on old ball skills . .
Naseem is even more raw . . his action/run up and delivery stride has changed since the SL/Bang series which means he's not being able to move the ball and bowling too wide . . There are a few technical issues that can be corrected and should be and it will almost immediately make him more effective . .

If people like Wasim, Holding, Atherton, Nasser, Warne, etc. are talking about his talent, potential, action, etc. . who the hell are we to question their wisdom and knowledge?

If we're expecting him to tear apart this line up and average 3/4 wicekts a match, the problem is us not Naseem!

Trust me, there is no one in the domestic circuit who will come in and do better than him! and he definitely has a high ceiling . . We have to be patient and keep our own expectations in check! Give him 20 tests . . then see how he has developed and where he's at!

Waqar Younis has a job to do!

Yasir is one of those bowlers who need that first blood early to come into their own

I've always wondered why don't many teams go the India route and try a stroke maker as an opener ala Sehwag. I know Sehwag was an exception and his hand eye coordination was second to none but I do believe there is merit in having a swashbuckling opener in Tests.

It may be a radical idea but England can try Bairstow as an opener in Tests and give him the licence to play freely. Even a quick 35-40 goes a long way in demoralising the opposition.

Crawley will struggle on sub continent pitches

why is this the knee-jerk response by every asian fan whenever there is a new successful batsman from SENA?

Crawley scored 80 in Sri lanka during a practice game just before covid cancelled engs sri lanka tour. So he isnt that terrible on spinning wickets.

Think the test is already over for pak

Against Broad, Anderson, Woakes and Archer pak won't score more than 250 in either innings.

Will be England first home series victory against pak in what 10 years

Crawley is facing the tough deliveries well, how does he have such a low fc average?

Doesn't help when the County Championship is largely staged in April, May and September when the likes of 70mph Darren Stevens can look like worldies.

You do not pick a test player to score quick 30-40's.
Dont think bairstow has it. Relies on flat decks in odi to score most of his runs

Quick 30s and 40s are useless in Test cricket.

I was a supporter of Bairstow, I thought he should've been a specialist bat at 5 for England instead of keeping and batting at 7, but his technique was totally exposed. He averages 24 since Jan 2018, and was getting bowled far too often for a Test batsman.

Your theory could work in places like the SC, but in England against the red Dukes it doesn't - see Jason Roy flopping last summer.

Given the batting friendly conditions at the Ageas Bowl, the only glimmer of hope Pakistan had was batting first.

I can’t tell if Crawley is a good bat or a mediocre one.

England either has these dynamic stroke makers or these strokeless wonders, nothing in between.

Shaheen can learn the wobble seam ball from Amir that pitches on off stump and seams away a touch . . Amir does that better than most

Funnily, Crawley’s is the one I want right now. Will keep raising the tempo

When in groove there arent many better spinners then Yasir to watch. On his off days though it can be a nightmare

That’s first maiden of the morning session!!!! PAK loses heart the moment Captain loses toss - bowling first isn’t the worst thing here.
