The match is underway now. 4 dot balls from Jimmy.

11 off Broad's first over. Last ball was good though beat the bat.

Looks a very good batting track. If Lanka can pile up 400+ they have a great chance of winning this with Mendis and co.

As much as I hate Dislahn I have to admit I loved how positive he has been in his first test as captain and playing 5 bowlers. Add to this that Jaya (wk) is not the best of batsman!
Strauss and England should learn! I would have loved England playing Rashid in place of Morgan, they will need a 2 spinners to take 20 indian wickets for sure.

Better from Broad. Inconsistent bounce early on. Anderson is the danger man though.

As much as I agree you might not like some players and you love some there's no need to hate a player. He's just doing his job. It's just a game after all :yk

Rashid isn't that good guys. Scott Borthwick is a better prospect IMHO.

Paranavitana looks another solid batsmen, how do Lanka keep producing such technical batsmen? :farhat

ah they opened with Broad

Should have opened with Tremlett

Decent start here from sri lankans, having 2 spinners and england having to bat last then the sri lankans need to put big runs on the board.

4000 test match runs for Dilshan. :14:

He's looking for another big score in this match.

Good start for Sri Lanka. Their batting is their asset now and they'll need to put up a good total now to have a good chance of getting something from this match.

Cautious session for both teams 35/0 from 16 overs. Should be a tight contest till the pitch eases out

why ain't this sticky??

great going lankans, i am with you :D

No wickets in 16 overs in overcast conditions??

England really need to prove their test status here :)))

Nick Knight in the studio : They are pretty cool customers.

Hey Nick ! That is a copyrighted phrase :raja

Thank lord we will have our espnstar broadcasting the series in India, don't wanna listen to the garbage from Beefy and co

The analysis is already miles better than the dull and dreariness of the World Cup,IPL and Pak-WI series.

Also good contest between bat and ball.

why isn't agelo matthews in the side? Is he injured or just left out? Would have included him over an extra bowler, considering he can bowl, and has a first class average of over fifty and made a promising start in his test career

Sky sports commentators are by far the best and most insightful ones around. Botham has controversial opinions and is biased but when it comes to analysis of the game itself, he is spot on (as are all the others).

Nasser, David Lloyd and Mike Atherton are easily the best cricket commentators.

Yeah I seriously cannot wait for Sanjay to wait all game to say 'THATS A DLF MAXIMUM!!!' or remark as to how a simple catch is now no longer known as simply a catch, but a KARBONNNNNN KAMAL KATCH!

/sarcasm

Ditto. Liked Ather's commentary so much, showed a different side to him that was not forthcoming when he was captaining england that I read his auto biography. highly recommended.

:)) oh oh you forgot the part when they try hard to be funny but infact it goes miserably wrong.

He got injured during the WC Final LOL Hasn't recovered yet

Question. Is there the UDRS referral and if so, are they using hot spot?

u kidding? English commentators are THE best. I know Beefy rant a lot but everybody else is great apart from him.

Bumble, Lloyd, Hussein are very fine but Atherton, Beefy and Holdings are equally aweful.
I prefer Chappell, Gavaskar, Wasim, Harsha, Shastri and Hussein as guest commentator in espnstar box.

No that is SETMAX,
Sanjay isn't with the espn star team. No Laxman Shivarama and ArUn Lal either :D

You prefer Harsha/Wasim/Gavaskar to Bumble? Bumble on his own is better than them three put together!

your a different kind :asif

NO ONE can beat Nasser hussain and bumble
these commentators bring energy into a match

still cant forget
" oh yes i would love two of those" bumble legend

you got that right! saw Pakistan both at lords and oval last year and it was something else. The banter with the english fans is a lot of fun...

am sure must've been a blast mate! especially Oval since we won! :D

how I wish we still had England as neutral venue for our home series!

you think The Bhogle is a good commentator? the guy never says anything insightful about the game and is too busy commentating about the crowd. Can't stand him. And Athers is great. Fact!

Same here...they ruined it. Would have been ideal. though shame you do not get that many pakistan fans at test cricket though last year maybe that was a blessing in disguise. the last time they were here, saw Moyo get to double hundred with my Dad, a momery i will cherish always...

Ather's kind of dopey, Nasser's my favourite.

I like New Zealand's commentators too.

ya that Moyo double was truly magical in the circumstances of the match! masterful innings from the legend!

playing test cricket in England would have made our batsmen much much better than say playing in UAE, SL or anywhere in Asia...

Like i said before bumble, hussein, lloyd are cool. But Atherton, Holdings and Beefy? :O

Lanka 77 for no losss, proving the test status england :)))

IMO, listening to ESPN commentary is one of the worst possible punishment an Indian cricket fan could have for their ears(not just commentary but also the studio analysis).

Even though I don't like the views of Athers and Holding they are still far far superior to our monotonous n often biased commentary trio of Sunny "Sachin" Gavaskar and Over Enthusiastic Non Stop nonsense (also known as Harsha Bhogle) not to forget the worst of all The infamous RAVIBOT

My favt commentators for India-England series would be Bumble, Nasser, Sanjay, Ian Chappel, Tony Greig and if possible Bob Willis (yes the same sleep inducing voiced former english player)

I just get the feeling.....Ravi will be there in eng.
Something gotta give here mate. :D

I am fearing for the worst that is team of Ravibot, Sunny, Harsha (?), Alan Wilkins, Wasim and even LSRK :42:

Meanwhile Sri Lanka is doing smoothly in cardiff

85 for no loss

Good start for Sri Lanka. Dilshan has played some great shots and Porno has been dogged out there. A four hundred plus score would bode well for Sri Lanka.

Ian Chappell is top notch . his story telling is wonderful :23:
