Credit to the Sri Lankans, surprised they were seven to one to win this test match I understand.

England have bowled well, Anderson, Tremlett, Swann's been pretty good too (everyone except Broad I guess). Tremlett in particular, surprised he hasn't picked up a wicket yet.

They're playing very well. Sri Lanka are a much better test team then people give them credit. Reckon they'll hold England to a drawn test series.

Tremlett is a good bowler. He'll trouble the Indian batsmen more than Anderson and that's because of his height and the bounce he'll generate.

IMO ENG missed a trick by not giving the new ball to Omelett. Broad will always be a first change bowler

Dilshan playing very good innings.

Thought he might of give it away but he's playing smart!!

I don't see the over confident Brits now :akhtar

I guess they are surprised to see their much vaunted bowling attack not able to dismiss even a single wicket of the so called weaklings of test cricket while touring that too under a good over cast conditions with full strength squad after 30 + overs being bowled.

Another wicket for Swann in his first over.

What a class act.

Sri Lankan batters needs to bat out the rest of the overs for today without losing any further wicket(s)

Sudden lack of concentration from Dilshan cost his wicket

Porno gets 1000 test runs. He has played an old school test match opener's innings so far. Lets see if he has the mentality to get a big score.

that was indeed a classy shot from Sanga!

is it me, or the crowd turnout is quite low? may be it has to do with Thursday being a work day or people are not interested in watching Sri Lanka? :)))

I think it's because Sri Lanka is batting first that's why we don't see much crowd...am sure when it's England's turn to bat, we'll see close to a full house over the weekend!

First test of the year should always be played At Lords (the home of cricket). Why change it this year?

Sanga gone, don't know what to make of that tbh. I'm very impressed with that new SL opener.

what an IDIOT 3rd UMPIRE!

Sanga was not out!!!

you can't give it out on noise alone, from main angle there was no contact and hot spot showed nothing either!

Weird decision to give Sanga out.

Hot spot doesn't pick up a nick, there is no clear edge.

You can't give anyone out just because there was a noise, with no edge.

Pathetic decision.

edit: Ok maybe I jumped the gun a little bit.

That was not out.
Doubt should be given to Batsmen, fgs..

Sanga robbed. You can't give it out because of a noise.lol If that was the case then snicko would be used.

There was a hotspot mark on the edge of the bat. It was very faint, but, coupled with the noise, I felt that the call was fair.

whenever hotspot is inconclusive, benefit of the doubt should go to batsmen as was the case last summer...

England going the Aussie way, using the umpires. Evil Evil Evil :)))

Sanga was hard done...tough luck there but hopefully he can put up a good score 2nd time around...usually when hotspot is inconclusive, it's given not out...there was too much doubt on there to be certain that faint white spot was off the ball...

its over 7 and test match cricket in england is still on

I know they are covering the time they missed out on but still never goes on this late any other country

what say

Sanga should not have been given out. The decision should have gone in favor of the batsman.

Sri Lanka 133 for 2 at close of day 1's play

Good start for what looks to be a possible tight series

A promising start for SL. It'll be vital if they manage to survive the morning session tomorrow as that's the session where bowlers seem to dominate the most, especially conditions in England and Australlia.

I'll keep updating about the weather tomorrow, looks like there will be light rain with glimpses of sunshine, typical weather here.

When I heard the noise I thought "Out!" but after all the replays I was surprised that he had to go.

SL always bring their A-game to England. And England always bring Sri Lankan pitches to them.

England players are hard done by nowadays, mostly by their own curators. I know Cardiff desperately need the match to go the full 5 days for financial reasons, but it's not really fair on the home team who rely on a bit of green in the pitch to gain an advantage.

The wicket of jayawardene within the first hour today could really make it difficult for sl and within a flash england could be all over them. This is why test match cricket rocks, you can bat your heart out blocking every ball for 30 overs but wickets are always crucial.

If Sl win / draw this series, in that case will Beefy say that England's no. 2/3 ranking is not justified ????

Good day. A few wickets in the morning and the game is on.

Should have bowled Omelette with the new ball.

Game is going to be very reliant on England's first-innings batting. If we bottle it then we may well lose the test match. I said 2-1 England, and I'll stick with that.

How's the weather forecast looking like? Lots of sunshine or ike yesterday, damp and cloudy with sun breaking out every now and then?

Dry and cloudy with some outbreaks of sunshine. Could go either way.

Thanks whips. Hope we get full 90 overs today. The pitch is going to get tough to bat on. Match could be over in 4 days. Too much of variable bounce already.

I'm surprised they're not starting at 1030 today to make up some of the lost overs.

Either way, I really despise these 1100 starts. Something really bugs me about them.

True. 10.30 starts used to be better. Wonder why they switched to 11.

Probably TV deal-related.

Grr.

We used to see more exciting morning sessions and more 90-over days with the 1030 starts.

:out

Anderson on fire, gets Jawardene closing the bat to a big inswinger, smartly caught at slip.

Jimmy and broad right on the money . Ball swinging and jaya bowled by a beauty

The great man is here, Thilan Samaraweera with a mighty average of 4 in England.

Another beauty from broad seems to have got his line and length right today

Broad getting variable bounce, Jimmy swinging it like Tom Jones...

Good luck Lanka! :murali
