ICC World Cup 2023: India v Australia | Final | Ahmedabad | 19 November | India innings

This time around Travis Head has rejoined the squad.. he has a history of destroying the dreams of the Indian cricket team. He smashed 163 off 174 in the World Test Championship to take the game out of India’s hand and is one of the most impactful players in the entire world today. If Travis Head plays more than 30 balls for Australia, I would say they would certainly win.

Without that knowledge, India are clear favorites but Australia are in with a chance. Every aspect of their game elevated during the semifinal. They just can’t drop an easy catch off Kohli the way they did in the group stage game.

On the other hand though, Rohit Sharma has been absolutely amazing this tournament. If he plays like he has been this whole time, but this time is able to stick around for even longer, he can win the WC for India.

Anyone have any knowledge of what kind of pitch and playing conditions we can expect for the final?

Big chase for India in knockout is only tick mark left here. The only real threat is if Aussies can get a huge total.

I would say 80_20 in favour India here.

Aussies can win against India only when there is a wankede type of wicket. India do not have brute hitting power which they have.

In the 2003 World Cup
Australia won 10 matches on the trot before the final
India won 8 matches on the trot before the final

In the 2023 World Cup
India won 10 matches on the trot before the final
Australia have won 8 matches on the trot before the final

Australia won their 3rd WC title in 2003
Can India win their 3rd WC title in 2023?

Easy India win.

Aus strength in this tournament has been in their opener's aggression and India has thr bowling to counter that.

IND 80% - 20% AUS

Whoevee wins the toss should bat, get big runs on the board = win.

Can't see any other way really.

Just hoping for a close match to finish the tournament.

Australians will put up a good fight especially with Head in the side this time around and their dynamic ground fielding that was on show in the semi-final.

Regardless, India is too well-rounded and I do expect them to win it in the end.

It’s written in stars.
The cup is coming home 🏡

If somehow india can squeeze Australia's no.1 nemesis Ashwin it would be great. But too bad they can't do due to combination issue.

Ashwin instead of SKY? Sky is a good fielder doe.
But SKy will be India's back up batsman just in case if we have top order collapse. Otherwise this will be a deadly combo. Bumrah, Siraj, Shami, Kuldeep, Jadeja, Ashwin. 6 world class bowlers.

I'm afraid of Travis Head. If we manage to take his wicket in early overs then match is ours. Australia middle order is less threatening, Maxwell can also tackle with spin. Head-Warner and Hazlewood are the only one who can demolish India's dreams.

Australia are mentally stronger and they proved this in the WTC final.

I expect Steve Smith to deliver again on the biggest stage.

India are an overrated team and got lucky vs Australia in the group stage. Marsh won't drop another catch like that again.
If India is an overrated team, what about previous ODI No.1 Team, who got No.1 ranking playing against minnows and B & C teams.

if toss is the deciding factor, AUS winning it batting first? India has no chance chasing?

Australia cricket team can defeat India cricket team.

They cannot defeat ICC, BCCI, pitch curators and the Indian team.

This WC was rigged from day 1. A farcical tournament where nobody else stood a chance.

Thank God we have the leaked emails.

If India wins, it is because of cheating Or if Pakistan looses against India also, it is only because of cheating. We will explore some controversy like match fixing, switch pitch, balls with chip, toss fixing, DJ issue etc., but we don't have heart to accept our weakness.

Man to Man, India is the superior team and they are on a roll. Aussies will have no answers to the Indian bowling attack.

No. Of course both can chase.

I'm just opining that the best way has seemingly been to bat first and put massive scoreboard pressure on.

The bat had dominated for much of the tournament.

I hoped SA to qualify for final and choke there against India. But they choked in semi again. 😐

I don't have strength to witness another 2003. God help us this time.

Player vs player india look better. Batting bowling. But not fielding
If they drop catches under pressure and if bumrah fails as usual in ko matched then its india ko'd by Aussie.

Ya …..in one of the match it happened …but rest of the matches Indian fielding were top notch….. and if we compared India’s that fielding with SA’s yesterday fielding its minuscule

IMO, Ashwin in place of Siraj, Thakur in place of SKY will make our 11 even more stronger both in terms of batting and bowling options.

Siraj is a liability both while bowling and fielding, less said about his batting is better. Ashwin can’t go much wrong in any of the three aspects (compared to Siraj). He will be much more useful against Australian openers who are lefties.

This should be a close contest but expecting our team to win in the end.

What we have seen this world cup is that whether setting or chasing , a batting team can effectively win a game in the powerplay. Cases in point
1) India vs SA
2) Aus vs NZ
3) Aus vs SA semis
4) Ind vs NZ both matches
5) Fakhar vs NZ match

The steady start and late buildup works against teams who have weak links in their bowling (SL vs Pak; SA vs Eng etc.) but if you can land a punch in powerplay you are short circuiting most of bowling teams plans.

It is fitting that the teams which have realised this and adopted aggressive opening approach are in the final.

I hope Pak fans also realise this and redirect their efforts to analysing the roles of their white ball openers rather than praying for ICT downfall

It’s a decent sized ground so usage of spinners should not be an issue even while defending a score.

I just hope dew does not play spoilsport later in the evening.

Any information about pitch? Will Indian team management choose the surface to play on or ICC stipulations will prevail?

If same kind of pitch is used that was used last night in 2nd semi final then it will suit india. They can trap australian again with their spin attack which has been doing good atm.

Pitch will be same as first semifinal .

Australia will definitely win
They are mentally much more stronger

It's no coincidence that this Indian team has not won a SINGLE ICC tournament in 10 years
Always losing crunch matches with their fake superstars flopping

If Australia bat first and make 300- game done and dusted
You are still here?
How did you like Kohli and Rohit's knock in the semis, something your Azam cabt even dream of

Then it will be 50 50 for both teams. Australia batting first and set up a huge total for India to chase is not an ideal scenario for India.
If any team can Chase the target then Ahmedabad is preferred choice as aparts for first 5-6 overs bowl will came better under the light and dew factor is also there . But yea world Cup Final pressure is huge so batting first is way to go for both the teams .

There should be no change in the team, Ashwin cant play ahead of any pacer, Siraj hasn't done well in this tourney but it will be foolish to remove him from last match after playing him throughout the tourney, also unfair on any new player to play directly in the final.

its the easies time to bat as well so zero excuses for openers. sure they need to see off the new ball but they also have fielders in close. They need to unleash their power and go for the jugular.

Yes once Pandya was out of the system, this is the best combination we have... Actually it is fine (we have rediscovered Shami, before that we thought Siraj was the first choice! At least we rectified this now and understood the value of Shami) If we continued to play with that combination Bumrah+Siraj+Pandya+Thakur+Jadeja+Kuldeep, opposition would have got enough loopholes to exploit!

We can't go with just 2 seamers and include Ashwin. Siraj is a must for this game too... We should trust and win with this combination... Then after the world cup we anyhow have plenty of things to finetune (like Rohit may go away we can bring in Jaishwal to give that left-hand bat at the top, Tilak Varma who can bowl a bit and also left-hander in the middle-order, Siraj being replaced by another new seamer with better control, etc.) But for now we should not disturb this combination...

He hasn’t been able to even take his team to the semis in both the WC’s he has played. Let’s not even talk about him doing something significant in KO’s.

Back to topic, I’m prepared for any result. A loss wouldn’t devastate me. Losing to Australia is nothing to be embarrassed about.

The way Cricviz and Nathan Leamon put it.

The biggest predictors of World Cup success are in order

1. Rapid scoring batting lineup for previous 2 years (IND, SA, OZ, ENG in top 4)

2. A strong W/L record for 2 years ( IND , PAK, OZ, SA in Top 4)

3. Squad experience with max number of players who have played 75+ matches (OZ, NZ, IND, ENG in Top 4)

Only India and Australia had all 3 of these predictors in their favour and both are in the finals.

Difficult to call favourites here @Markhor

Australia pick up the pace before India showdown

-Australia head into their World Cup decider against India with all pieces in place following a devastating return to form of their vaunted pace attack in the South Africa semi-final.

Power play wickets had proved elusive for the five-times champions but the withering opening spells of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood were decisive against the Proteas in the three-wicket win in Kolkata.

Along with captain Pat Cummins, the fire-and-ice duo of Starc and Hazlewood had previously been left in the shade by legspinner Adam Zampa and his 22 victims at the tournament.

On Thursday, however, the quicks grabbed eight of the 10 wickets between them for a handy confidence boost before the ultimate test against India's peerless batting machine.

"It's probably not been the tournament I would have liked from the get-go," Starc told reporters.

"But nice to step up in a big game."

Pace has never failed to be a factor in Australia's white-ball triumphs and proved key when Aaron Finch's squad won the nation's maiden T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in 2021.

For all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, the glow in the Australian dressing room is akin to the squad's ebullience during the UAE tournament where they peaked at the right time.

Australia's quicks will again be looking to make early in-roads against the hosts, who racked up 397 for four in their semi-final against New Zealand in Mumbai.

New Zealand's pacemen failed to deal with the heat brought by India captain Rohit Sharma and fellow opener Shubman Gill who paved the way for the Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer centuries.

"It's huge, and the bigger the game the more important it becomes," said Hazlewood of capturing early wickets.

"So we know the blueprint now if we're bowling first, and hopefully go again on Sunday."

Ahmedabad's pitch is likely to be a major talking point following the Mumbai semi-final where the hosts made a late change and served up a slow wicket.

Australia beat England in Ahmedabad on a pitch which Hazlewood described as good "without being an absolute flat track".

He said he expected similar for the final but was confident Australia's quicks would be able to deal with any conditions.

"We've been around the block a few times now, and we've seen that with India, apart from that one game against us, they've played three quicks for the majority as well and they've been outstanding," he said.

"So we know it can be done, we've seen them do it and we've been here a lot of times now so we know how to bowl in these conditions."

Australian team should continue to rely on their strengths and play with aggression and confidence. After losing the first 2 matches and then making it to the final of the World cup is a big achievement. They should do their basics right and they are going to lift this trophy as well.

Latest News - Rahul Dravid and batting coach Vikram Rathour near the pitch and the covers are coming off .
Quick look and both Rahul and Rathour are off. Rahul didn't do his usual firmness check and a mini-conference has begun between coach, batting coach and captain Rohit Sharma near the square.

Aussies always show up in the big games. Can never underestimate them
I don't think (for a change) India is underestimating any team in this world cup! Even with the extra bowlers it tried against Netherlands it was more of a concern on the way they are playing only 5 specialist bowlers and no regular part-timers like other teams have!

To think of it, both prospects sound bad.

Australia winning 6 titles in a sport the best country only has 2 would be ridiculous and would paint a sorry picture of our game.

On the other hand we are dealing with the scary prospect of Bharatiya fans bragging about their team going undefeated in a World Cup. We might never hear the end it.

Whoever is play better cricket deserves to win the World cup .it doesn't matter how many times they won .

South African coach said, "I don't care about the Final. There's a 1% chance I'll watch it".
They are really heartbroken so its understable.

These guys are professional coaches. They probably have better things to do than to see another team play.

Nah when your team were lost a semifinal two day ago then its naturally to disinterested .Last time india were lost the 2019 world cup semifinal then i don't even watch a singles ball of 2019 world cup final.

Only department where India edges Australia is spinners that may be lessen should India bowl first

The English duo of Richard Illingworth and Richard Kettleborough will be the on-field umpires for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia in Ahmedabad.

This will be the second time Kettleborough would be in the middle for the showpiece occasion. The 50-year-old previously stood alongside Kumar Dharmasena in the 2015 final, which saw Australia overcome New Zealand at the MCG.

More than 93,000 spectators watched on that occasion and a three-figure crowd is expected tomorrow as the host nation look to replicate the Indian team of 2011 and lift the World Cup on home soil.

Illingworth and Kettleborough, who were promoted to the ICC International List on the same day in November 2009, both acted as on-field umpires during this week’s semi-finals. Illingworth oversaw India’s victory over New Zealand, with Kettleborough in charge of Australia’s thrilling win against South Africa.

Both men are previous winners of the David Shepherd Trophy, awarded to the ICC’s Umpire of the Year.

Kettleborough, who reached a century of ODIs as an umpire earlier in the tournament when Netherlands took on Sri Lanka, took home the prize in three consecutive years between 2013 and 2015 and Illingworth added his name to the illustrious list in 2019 and 2022.

On Sunday, the pair will be joined by Joel Wilson as third umpire, fourth umpire Chris Gaffaney and match referee Andy Pycroft, all of whom were part of the officiating teams across the semi-finals.

Match officials for ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 final: India v Australia, Ahmedabad, 19 November

On-field Umpires: Richard Illingworth & Richard Kettleborough
Third Umpire: Joel Wilson
Fourth Umpire: Chris Gaffaney

Former ex-Australian cricketer Micheal Bevan says India are favourite to lift World Cup on Sunday

Yes we should not change team combination. If pandya was available then we should play three spinners but not now .
Even if Pandya fit, he will preferred to stay out of team as he also don’t want to disturb this winning combination

Pitch issue discussion is for

The likes of Sharma, Gill, Kohli, Iyer, KL Rahul will have a field day against Starc, Hazelwood, Cummins on Indian pitches, Zampa and Maxwell will be no problem.

Bhumra, Siraj, Shami, Kuldeep and Jadeja will easily neutralize Warner, Head, Marsh, Smith, Labus, Inglish, Maxwell e.t.c.

Australia desperately need India to have a really bad day. India will win even if they play 50% of their potential.

Kohli is really determined to win the Cup for India, to score a century in the final and to have the same legacy as Tendulkar.

India 3 times ODI World Champions. The stage is set for them

Pat Cummins has had a pathetic WC with the ball, he really needs to step up and lead by example with the ball.

Hotel room tariff in Gujarat's Ahmedabad and airfares to the city have skyrocketed in view of the soaring demand from people who want to witness the cricket World Cup final match between India and Australia to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on the coming Sunday. As the fever for the world cup final is reaching its peak, hotel room tariffs for the night of the match have gone up as high as Rs 2 lakh in top five-star hotels in the city, while other hotels have also increased their rates by five to seven times.

"There is enthusiasm for the World Cup final not only in India, but people from abroad including places like Dubai, Australia and South Africa want to come to watch the match," the President of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of Gujarat Narendra Somani said.

"There are 5,000 rooms in three stars and five star hotels in Ahmedabad, while the number for entire Gujarat is 10,000. The capacity of the Narendra Modi Stadium is over 1.20 lakh people and we expect that 30,000 to 40,000 people will come from outside to watch the match," he said.

As the demand for hotel rooms is high, their rates are also increasing, he said, adding that the rooms which were available at nominal rates earlier have touched anywhere between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1.25 lakh.

"People tend to book the flight tickets first before booking hotels. The room prices are going to increase not only in Ahmedabad but in the surrounding towns also as the match day comes near," he said

Online rates on various hotel booking sites of five-star hotels have reached around Rs 2 lakh per night. The tariff mentioned by hotels like ITC Narmada and Hyatt Regency online is more than Rs 2 lakh on the night of the match.

Even non-star hotels have increased their rates five to seven times to cash in on the rush.

Hotel Crown on C G Road, which generally charges Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 per night, has increased its rate to over Rs 20,000, its staff confirmed.

Meanwhile, airfares from different destinations to Ahmedabad have drastically gone up as compared to the normal rates.

For flights coming from Chennai, the rates in normal times are around Rs 5,000, but they are now Rs 16,000 to Rs 25,000.

"Due to high demand for Ahmedabad, airfares for flights to the city from almost all places have risen three to five times," said Manubhai Pancholi, a travel agent.

"Cricket fans are ready to pay the high prices to be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and witness India play the finals in their home country. The demand for hotels and tickets is on the rise," he said

High time to make business

With Australia’s weakness against spinners and two left hand openers means Ashwin (he can even open the bowling) should play ahead of Siraj.

Siraj is a walking disaster both with the ball in hand or with his clueless fielding. If he is not bowling buffet balls, he bowls, wide, if not that he drops sitters. Aussies will punish him severely.

In all likelihood, we are going to have a pitch that is similar to India Pak game. So bolstering the bowling with Ashwin should be considered.

Spread the word. I heard the pitch is a drier than Sahara. And may spin from ball one. And India may play four spinners.

While speaking at Star Sports, Gautam Gambhir said:

"Shreyas Iyer is the biggest game changer for me in this World Cup. He was injured and had to fight for his place, and to score a century in 70 balls in the knockout is simply outstanding. He'll be the key for India in the final when Maxwell and Zampa bowl."

This is how economy works….now ppls against this are paying high on NBA games without any fuss

Indian looking good and well equiped to play on any kind of surface. Australia struggled against SA even after a blistering start. If not for drop chances and poor captaincy by SA, the game could have gone to SA way.
India firm favourites to win.
